I think it's their perfect use of symphonic elements that makes them so easy to listen to. It's not just blast beats and pig squeals. There's that constant overarching melody in all of their songs to hang on to.
you can already see the impact he's having on the heavy music scene. vocal acrobatics are spreading from deathcore to other genres and really all i want is to get that without having to listen to deathcore. just compare these two Flub singles.
Speaking of sucks, Imperial Triumphant. Now moving on to new Vorbid... Edit to add: Fuck Amon Amarth. What garbage, absolute poseresque garbage. Looking back at their discography this band has been mostly suck for 20 years now.
Speaking of crappy band names here's one. I don't know anything about them as a band, or why I downloaded it, but I'm enjoying nonetheless.
as a pretty huge fan of the death metal genre, I must admit that gore or overtly gross lyrical content and imagery is really not my thing. know that probably makes me an outlier, but there are so many excellent classic and modern bands with more thoughtful and intelligent concepts. there are a few exceptions to this rule (i enjoyed the recent 200 Stabwounds album), but for the most part it’s universal for me.
holy fucking shit i’m even more impressed. i absolutely adore everything he’s released. it’s very high quality brutal death.
which dude?? i’ve known about erra since before they even had music released. i remember some of the original members from their previous band, by blood and iron. the guy who recorded my band also did one of their albums. and a good friend of mine was just recently on tour with them as their merch and sound guy.
i accept the gore and horror tropes as foundational to the genre, similar to film. where i get lost is the tendency towards overtly misogynistic expressions of those
haha no shit? Same. I’ve known Alex, the drummer, for years, he was my neighbor. Then I’ve known Jesse and some of the others since way back when. I knew them all when they were the original members. They’ve added some since obviously. I was in a band back then called With Guns Blazing then another called Who Will Follow.
Liturgy has a new (~15 minute!) single out for an upcoming album. most of this bands output has been a little too weird for me, but this song kills. the genre is...progressive / avant-garde post-black metal for the intelligentsia?
also, i don't know what it is about [former] deathcore bands and the title "Sun Eater" (see: JFAC), but i quite enjoyed what i've heard from latest Lorna Shore album - checked it out after the hype train came barreling into the station. they seem to be hugely popular for a band so heavy (>900k monthly listeners on Spotify, as compared to say, Cannibal Corpse with ~660k). could see them as the latest gateway band for kids getting into heavier music.
I can't do Autopsy, just can't. Forced myself to sit through the first 5 tracks of their new album. I fucking hate this band. I'd listen to Slipknot over this shit.
damn, River of Nihil parting ways with their (harsh) vocalist / frontman. also, The Sword is breaking up. a day of shoes dropping.
How excited are we for new Spiritworld next month? Hope signing to Century Media doesn't ruin them like most bands. Trigger warning: Hardcore-ish sounds
Starts out great but fades a bit late. Solid offering for sure though. Liked tracks 2/3/6/11 the most.
Ripped To Shreds - Jubian is the best thing I’ve heard this week caustic, galloping chunky death metal from the Bay Area. think the band members are Taiwanese.
Whoever rec'd Autonoesis and Sonja, well done, finally got around to going through both albums in their entirety.
good stuff right? i was reading about Sonja in this month's Decibel. the lead guitarist / singer was kicked out of Absu once she announced she was trans. i remember that story from a few years ago. the album rules, and i think the vocals are a highlight. fuck that Absu guy - she came out on top.
random unprompted brag: my band opened for goatwhore back in 2011. nice dudes from my limited interactions
that's sweet. i saw them live at Psycho Las Vegas 2021. always found them a bit bland, but that was a great live show. i never realized until recently that the lead guitarist from Goatwhore was also in Acid Bath. Acid Bath is pretty good stuff, can't think of a band that combines the elements they do.
