I hope it doesn’t get lost that he went for 2 to try to make it a 3 point game with the entire 4th quarter left, didn’t get it, and then had to go for two at the end of the 4th quarter to try and make it a 3-pt game, and also didn’t get that. And then lost by 2.
Hey guys I want you to know I feel bad for you guys. ZeroPointZero I was really rooting for you guys to pull it out. You guys can still beat Oregon and Washington to make it to the playoffs.
Lincoln Riley is name brand Mike Leach. He can beat up on bad teams, but he'll never threaten to win anything important.
It might be the correct decision by analytics in aggregate. But that assumes that points are somewhat difficult to come by. With an entire quarter left in a PAC-12 game, it’s dumb.
I know. My guy I feel the same way you do. I don’t understand the going for two so I kinda was attempting to mess with oHai. My bad didn’t mean to start anything
To answer the question in the thread title... he's not a bad coach but he doesn't appear to be close to a champion coach. As has been suggested in the team thread, he might have NFL aspirations which means we'll try again to catch lightning in a bottle.
Why would an NFL team hire him? I got the premise of the idea a few years ago when Kingsbury was getting a shot, but there's no way he would succeed in the league playing this way, and he doesn't know how to play any other way.
He makes $10 million per year to be a head coach. No coordinator makes remotely close to even half of that
The problem with me to the analytics stuff is it removes the feel for the game. I don't want to argue with math but like FSU last night, they said the analytics tell you to go for it on your own 34 yard line in the first quarter?? Then they don't get it and Duke is already in fg range. FSU already wasn't playing super sharp early and just put themselves in a bigger hole.
Also need to consider how much variance you should be willing to accept. FSU as two TD favorites shouldn't be doing that kind of risky shit early even if it may be +EV in aggregate. If you're the two TD dog though, that variance is your friend and you're better off doing the risky, bold stuff when the math checks out.
I refuse to believe analytics say go for it from your own 34 Herbie made that shit up instead of just rightfully calling out our coach for a bozo move
On the whole 2 pt discussion, is it not really strange that USC does not seem have a good 2 pt play they can go to? Just feel like with that coach, that offensive talent and that QB you should have more success on 2pt attempts than he seems to
This has been a delightful season thus far. Nothing better than watching megalomaniac coaches who think their QB genius is all that's needed to win championships get absolutely bludgeoned by physical teams. Just fire his ass, SC, y'all can do so much better than this cheap fuckery.
I wonder if any coach has ever had 3 heisman winners (and another finalist) and never even made a title game
I am not saying Riley is great but they are also still paying for clay Helton, sc better be careful here, if they make a move so soon they will need a home run.
After talking to a former OU player yesterday, I can confirm that Lincoln Riley ain't it as a HC. Elite OC, but will never win anything of significance as a HC.
I think the way he handles the media (like a petulant child) actually is an overhead view of how he coaches. He simply doesn’t have the chops to handle situations where things might get scrappy. Composure, adjustments, temperament…his teams always lack that shit and when they get hit in the mouth they fold. It’s exactly, from my vantage point, how he handles the media. Anytime he can’t wield them he tries to get their credentials, blocks his players from giving interviews, treats them as the ‘threat.’ He is shit in situations where there is any stress.
Is it high time we start a Caleb Williams bust thread? These numbers coupled with his atrocious numbers against anyone with a pulse aren’t a good look.
