The problem is different assumptions on cause/effect. They’ll say kids are dead because a lack of God in schools, or mental health problems, or video games, or rap music, or trans people, or any number of things. It’s obviously cognitive dissonance to us, but when they don’t agree that more guns = more deaths, then they don’t have to mentally accept the premise that you either have to do something or have children continue to get shot.
You'd definitely need to know the responses for those things like are we the only country in the world who listens to rap music or has mental health problems. This is obviously a hypothetical and I'm more likely to gloss over in a real life discussion but I'm just exceedingly frustrated at living in a society that thinks this is ok.
Manhunt underway after Colorado shooting leaves 3 dead, 1 injured, officials say Authorities in Colorado said they are searching for a suspect in a shooting that left three people dead and one in critical condition. A dispute over property on Rocky Ridge Road may have led to a shooting along a "property line in the wooded area," according to a release by the Custer County Sheriff's Office. The suspect -- identified by authorities as Hanme K. Clark -- remains at large, the sheriff's office said Tuesday morning. "Suspect is driving a White Ram 1500 pickup with a topper, Colorado license plate: BHLK27," the sheriff's office said. The vehicle was last seen in Chaffee County, Colorado, according to the Custer County Sheriff's Office. MORE: 4 injured, 3 critically, in shooting at Ohio Walmart; suspect dies of self-inflicted gunshot: Police Law enforcement responded to the scene at about 1 p.m. CT Monday to a report of shots fired, officials said. A local SWAT team responded about 20 minutes later. Three people -- two men and a woman -- had been fatally shot, law enforcement said. Another woman who was shot was in critical condition but is expected to survive, the sheriff's office said. State and federal agencies are assisting the local sheriff's office with processing the crime scene processing and notifying the victims' relatives. A shelter-in-place order that had been implemented amid the search for the suspect has since been lifted.
Earlier they said 419 for each of the same count they later called black So I assume the black is dead body, not sure if orange is injured or if it means dead suspect
One of my best friends works in Vegas as industrial electrician for a Fortune 300 company. Last week he found out one of the younger guys on a crew had been bringing his gun in his tool bag to the site. Same guy was a veteran who has a support animal in his time off and checked off a lot of red flags. Friend said he couldn't live with himself if the guy went mass shooter and he didn't say anything to save $250k/year job. Once my friend got confirmation it was true he went to his direct boss and the boss told him it wasn't a big deal, go check with the guy to see if he has and gun and pat him down. If he does tell him to keep it in his truck moving forward. My friend said "have you lost your fucking mind" After that he called corporate to let them know. His boss found out and was furiously asking everyone if they knew who went above his head. Someone told on him. They waited for his union steward to show up before talked. Corporate showed up and tried to sweep it under the rug. They wanted to keep him @ same site but he requested a change bc of fear of retaliation. It's a shame he didn't get fired right away bc that lawsuit would have been huge. He's not greedy and just wanted everyone to be safe and not blow the guys life up so he does something stupid. He took the transfer and now won't sue them unless they fuck him over. It's crazy how normalized guns being everywhere are some places. This countries relationship to guns is fucked. Edit: The security company said it wasn't in their jurisdiction bc its the companies policy and nothing has happened that required security to intervene. So basically we aren't a part of the equation until he pulls the gun on someone or someone calls us to respond.
from yesrterday's shooting Suspect in custody after 6 killed and 3 injured in a series of homicides and shootings in Central Texas A 34-year-old man is in custody after a string of homicides and shootings across two Central Texas communities left six people dead and three people injured, including two police officers, authorities said during news conferences in Austin and the San Antonio area. The suspect, identified by police as Shane James, has been charged in Travis County with multiple counts of capital murder and is expected to remain in custody pending a trial, the Travis County District Attorney’s Office said Wednesday in a statement. Spoiler James was booked into the Travis County Jail in Austin on Wednesday at 2:32 a.m. local time, according to jail records. “Based on information obtained over the course of these investigations, we strongly believe that one suspect is responsible for all of these incidents,” Austin Interim Police Chief Robin Henderson said. On Tuesday, the suspect allegedly carried out shootings at four different locations in Austin before he was arrested. In the morning, he allegedly shot and injured an Austin Independent School District officer. At about noon, he allegedly fatally shot a man and a woman miles away in South Austin, investigators said. At about 5 p.m., he allegedly shot and wounded a man on a bicycle, authorities said. And that evening, the suspect allegedly shot and injured an Austin police officer who was responding to a call about a burglary at a home, authorities said. Two people were found dead at the home, police said. That final shooting set off a car chase that ended with the suspect in custody at 7:15 p.m., authorities said. Once in custody, the suspect was connected to a home in San Antonio, about 80 miles southwest of Austin, where two bodies were found. The timing of those deaths was not clear, but police believe it took place before the Austin shootings. The relationship, if any, between the suspect and the victims isn’t known, authorities said. Two high schools in Austin are closed Wednesday as police investigate the shootings in the city, officials said. How the violence unfolded As police in Austin investigated the suspect following his arrest, they connected him to an address in Bexar County and contacted authorities there, Sheriff Javier Salazar said during a news conference Tuesday night. Deputies were sent to check out the home and discovered water leaking from the home so they decided to force their way in, Salazar said. The deputies discovered a “pretty grizzly crime scene” inside with two people dead, the sheriff said. “Nobody deserves to die the way we believe that they died,” he said, without providing further details on how they were killed. The relationship, if any, between the suspect and the people in the home is unclear, Salazar said. “This is a very quiet family. The gentleman that lives in the home, he’s very involved in the community, in the neighborhood watch,” Salazar said. Investigators believe the double homicide at the home happened before the incidents in Austin, the sheriff said. The first shooting in Austin happened around 10:40 a.m., when an Austin Independent School District officer was shot near Northeast Early College High School. The officer was shot in the leg and was stable, Austin Independent School District Police Chief Wayne Sneed said. The school went on lockdown as another school resource officer assisted the injured officer, Sneed said. It and nearby International High School are closed Wednesday as the investigation continues, district officials said. A little more than an hour later, Austin Police responded “to multiple calls for help” at a location about 12 miles away from the high school, Austin Police Sgt. Destiny Silva said Tuesday afternoon during a news briefing. “The callers reported hearing gunshots and stated that there was two possible victims,” Silva said. “Our officers arrived on scene at approximately 12:04 p.m. and located a male and a female victim with obvious signs of trauma to their body.” One victim died there and the other was pronounced dead at the hospital, Silva said. The third incident in Austin occurred around 4:57 p.m., “when Austin 911 received a call at 5701 West Slaughter Lane” about a male cyclist who said he had been shot. The man suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Henderson, the police chief, said. About two hours later, a police officer responding to a burglary call in southwest Austin was shot in an exchange of gunfire with a suspect. The officer had non-life-threatening injuries and the suspect wasn’t injured, Henderson said. The suspect fled the burglary scene in a vehicle, Henderson said, and officers pursued him. The suspect crashed the vehicle around 7:14 p.m. and was arrested, the chief said. He had a firearm on him, Henderson said. During the pursuit, additional officers who responded to the home for the burglary call checked inside the house and found two people dead inside, said Henderson. After his arrest, the suspect was taken to the Travis County Jail, Henderson said. Charges related to an outstanding assault and family violence warrant for the suspect are also pending, the chief added. This is a developing story and will be updated.
There's 4x as many gun dealers or stores in this country as there are McDonalds, 6x times as many as # of Starbucks. Makes $ense why GOP won't do anything.
Refusal to pass a universal background check for gun sales is stupid and fucking wreckless. Fuck the GOP for always voting it down
Only 20 states have universal background checks for all guns sales. If you're not in one of those states you can be unlicensed and sell weapons online sort of like gun show exemption. Sites like armslist let you sell guns in those 30 states to whoever you want. Think Craigslist but for guns
Is that true? I have no idea where to buy a gun but pass 5 Micky Ds and 3 Starbucks on my way to work.
Now see that's the kind of stat that feels like it's twisting the truth to make a statement and leaves people that are on the fence in a defensive mode instead of leaving the uninformed/unintelligent non-questioning people with any new information
Fwiw I think unlicensed sellers are way more dangerous than legit stores. Only 20 states having universal background checks is fucking embarrassing. I also think if you need a different license to drive 18 wheelers than cars you should need a different one to carry high powered or larger capacity weapons vs your grandpa's Winchester or a low capacity pistol.
I'm right there with you I literally spend about 99% of each month doing both new construction and remodeling for schools. It makes me sad we are having to put bullet resistant film on all 1st floor windows of schools, while I also wish we had the money to put something more sturdy. I spend so much time in differernt schools, every shooting makes me wonder just when will be the time I am in one when something like this happens. And makes me pray it never happens at my little man's school. Where I am coincidentally going to be having taller fences installed very soon.
Watching these gop fascists debate taking away people’s rights in the debate with no gun control questions is honestly sickening.
System is fucking broken. What's your answer? Nationwide universal background checks and more oversight of high powered, capacity weapons seems reasonable
I didn’t deal with any of it but was in the emergency department watching the commotion for multiple of the victims when they came in
I am sorry you had to deal with any of it. Hated seeing the news. My kid really liked living in Austin
Crazy. I just heard that girl’s 911 call on the latest Frontline they did on the Uvalde response and it was heart breaking. If there were any better argument for regulating assault rifles and high capacity magazines it’d be tough to beat hearing from the 75 “good guys with guns” (LEOs) who responded to Uvalde and how they were paralyzed to inaction knowing the shooter had an AR-15 and lots of ammo.
Ha I watched this yesterday. Really good and really sad. Basically the cops said what you would expect; there was poor leadership, bad information, their defensive gear would have been ineffective vs the rounds the guy was firing, said they never thought they'd face something like that, and were ill prepared/poorly trained
You’ll never guess who he subscribed to on YouTube. It will shock you. Spoiler you’re not gonna be shocked
