I guess the Jack Daniels Single Barrel Rye is going to become an annual release and is starting to show up places. I never had the one from a few years ago but I know people rave about it.
Yes sir! I did a blind with it, ofbs rye, and the special release. The new one was real close to the special release and light years better than the ofbs.
Stores are sometimes able to choose their own barrel of a bourbon, so it's a single barrel select bourbon chosen by someone, or a group of people, who represent the store.
Sometimes stores are sent samples and choose based on that. Or the store owner or someone from the store will go to the actual distillery/warehouse and taste various barrels and select a barrel in person.
Walked into a store in Irvine, CA today just to check selections & their prices were a bit silly. $250 & $400 for EHT Single & Small.
Yes I have had a couple of pours out of mine so far. I really enjoyed it. Not the best batch of Stagg I've ever had but it's good.
I'm decently well versed with bourbons, but woefully unfamiliar with scotch, so I figured this is the best place to ask. Buddy needs a recommendation for a bottle of scotch for a gift, something between $100-$300. Not sure who's getting the bottle so don't know if they usually enjoy single malts, blended, or any of the regional variations. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.
Old Fitz has the coolest bottle out there. Want to get my hands on for that reason alone. I'm sure the bourbon is delicious as well.
There is a scotch thread, but scotch in that price range should be much easier than bourbon with tons of choices although regionals do matter...specifically peaty or not. If unsure than sticking to any of the non-peaty high-end Macallan, Glenmorangie, Balvenie types is always a safe bet.
Makers Mark finally doing an older age statement release but then it only being 90 proof would be disappointing.
I hate when stores price over secondary, is it impolite to pull out my phone and show them current prices?
