I was gifted this by a client a few weeks ago… looked it up… holy shit?! Usually a bulleit and ginger ale guy... My “nice” bourbon is a Willet pot still (if I’m drinking straight with ice…) I’ve just been sitting on it since… is it materially better to enjoy for a “novice” or should I just wait until I become more knowledgeable? This is not a flex post so please be nice.
It’s a 2019, it’s the lowest proof ever for a George T Stagg that is typically known for being 130-140+ proof. Being 116.9 proof will make it a lot more approachable for you and you should definitely try it and see what you think. Also try it without ice
I have an open one, it’s enjoyable but yes, having a bit of a palette for bourbon helps with this one
Just drink it, try it neat then add some water. Enjoy it and tell your client about it next time you see him/her; that’s a hell of a gift.
Not bourbon but nikka coffey grain tonight. Japanese whiskey is a really good mix between Irish and scotch
That is ridiculous. That said, if either one of us gets one we . We won’t so nothing to worry about goblue31602
I think it's creative and would find it absolutely hilarious for all the taters in the state, but agree I'm not totally sure it's the answer. I mean it would basically put an instant stop to resale until someone somehow got creative.
I've seen a lot of open bottles nice on the secondary. Obviously at a discounted rate but I'm not sure it would stop it entirely.
Fair, I don't really look much at secondary, but I can't in a million years imagine buying an open bottle of something expensive and trusting what's in there, even at a discount.
Can’t understand people buying open bottles. You better know/trust the party for two reasons a) is it actually the product you think? Or just legent b) someone could poison it…much less likely
It's in a group that is invite only and supposed to all.be trustworthy people but even then I'm with you. I'm hesitant to buy anything open
I like to think I’ve built up enough trust here if they enforce that, that people would still be interested in whatever I come across
yes, but just because DDB has people fooled on discord, doesn't mean those people aren't idiots for buying all his open bottles.
99% of folks can’t tell four roses barrel proof from wlw. Which is why I won’t ever buy an open unless it is from about 5-6 people in the group.
....and most of the stuff he is selling those people never tasted before, because they are single barrels
That’s my thought. Ok, they open it. Take it home pour it into an empty refill with Henry McKenna (not 10 year) and sell it
Agreed. I like to call them “shitheads.” And by “them” I mean adults that treat whiskey like Pokémon.
