1. Rey was reading the SACRED JEDI TEXTS! So this movie promoted book reading to gain long lost knowledge 2. it wasn’t that far of a distance, and plus we saw in TLJ that kylo got rainfall from when Rey was in the island and he grabbed her bead necklace earlier in the movie, and plus the Dyad thing means I assume the two of them can accomplish much more than 2 normal force users so I bought it and it was fucking cool /apologist
I’m with you on the first one. I can defend JJ a little bit on the second , in that there was a lot of threads started about shit in outer space. Doesn’t bother me too much.
even as someone who enjoyed themselves for the most part, there aren’t many complaints I could argue with. the one thing I would argue is that some of you seem to just blindly give the benefit of the doubt to every narrative decision RJ made in TLJ even though we really don’t know where he was going or how bad he cut the legs out from JJ’s original vision (assuming he had one). JJ is basically Michael Bay at this point so I don’t mean to defend him, but I don’t think all the blame belongs on him. like others have said it all probably comes down to the failure of KK.
The thing is - it doesn’t matter if Rian kneecapped JJ. JJ wasn’t going to be in charge of IX at that point. Also, once VIII has been made, you don’t get to unmake with it IX. You have to let it go and roll with it, even if it went a direction you didn’t initially want. It’s out there. You have to work with it.
I really agree with the point made earlier that while either JJ or RJ could have come up with a decent trilogy, it’s their combination which made the trilogy a disappointment. Was Greg Grunberg always Wexley or is that some shit JJ just made up to made his buddy’s character more important? Also, full comic book guy complaint but it’s bothering me more and more that Wedge 1) wasn’t Resistance throughout the trilogy (do we have an explanation for that?) and 2) wasn’t piloting.
this is exactly what’s so troubling to me about this movie. The arrogance is incredible to witness. Scenes like the Rose sidelining and Luke’s quip about the lightsaber suggest a very confident moviemaker who is thinking “oh man they’re going to absolutely LOVE this” trashing of the previous movie. It’s like the most diehard neckbeardy TLJ-hating fan fiction writer himself wrote it. that’s just no way to treat something deserving of reverence in film history. You have such an incredible opportunity to make the ninth and last movie in this story and you opt for spite rather than coherence.
I don’t think it was spite. I think it was just clumsy writing to show his full change of perspective as a character
Grunberg was Wexley in TFA so that was first. But his character was built out in Aftermath and comics. Wedge - I think it’s because the actor never was all that interested coming back. From what I’ve read he’s always had a prickly relationship w Star Wars/ SW fans. Kind of surprising they even got him for a cameo.
totally could be. But there’s just so much of it that it’s hard to give them the benefit of the doubt.
Yeah and I doubt we’ll ever get definitive answers another clumsy one is supposedly Luke’s sacrifice was an inspiration so far and wide that the kids on canto bight telling the story, but still took Lando and Chewie going to core worlds to rally support
if I had to guess on why JJ was so petty (if he needed a reason) I would say Shitty AMC Show of Snoke.
If he wanted Snoke to be the bad guy so bad, he had a vat full of Snokes in this movie that he could have used.
Spoiler in terms of the overall storyline across all 9 movies, I wish it was the Force and not some royal bloodline
agreed and to be honest with how engaged I was with both leads I didn’t give a shit about bloodlines also you don’t need to spoiler anymore
It’s really two bloodlines at this point. This sequel trilogy was really about Palpatines, I guess. even though we know there are at least hundreds or thousands of others (the Jedi Order is canon).
Baby Yoda is probably another Palpatine vessel and declares “I AM the senate” as he force chokes Gus Fring
I’m so fucking distraught I’m going to this movie tonight and coming back and only posting things I liked
I’m saying I’m going to see it again and just try to enjoy it for what it is, come back here and only post those things
The good news is y’all can be huge nerds and watch clone wars to catch up before the final season revival next month I think I think Truman and I and maybe bigpig and a few others, we would be honored if you would join us
In case you didn’t get enough of bloodlines in the movie, the novelization has you covered. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/h...-confirms-lando-calrissian-fan-theory-1264803
The entire second half of that movie is my favorite hour+ of any Star Wars. The first half is good and has great ideas but the execution is a little shaky, but the moment Rey goes in the dark side cave the movie hits another level of awesome. Dark Side cave Force talk with Kylo Luke vs Rey Yoda gives Luke one last lesson Throne Room confrontation Throne Room battle Crait (when the Falcon shows up and the ROTJ Death Star battle music kicks in, I got chills just thinking about it) Amazing
Lando macking on a girl a third his age is just Lando bein' Lando. I didn't think twice about it. I read a tweet about the movie before seeing it that called it "low key horny." I think that's a fair idea/
Grab yer fuckin tissues, time to cry https://www.ign.com/articles/2019/12/23/riley-ri-lee-howell-unc-star-wars-jedi-canon
I think it was easy to convince all the cameo actors to come on board seeing as they were able to sell it as "the last Star Wars, come help us pay homage to the legacy of it all...also here's five thousand bucks." I think they got Ford back by saying "this part was originally for Carrie, help us finish her story...also here's five million dollars."
the only time I’ve seen Harrison happy is when he was promoting a movie in a franchise that he’s wanted to get killed off in for decades but goddamn that moment got me, especially the second time
I really didn't like the rigid timeframe they put themselves in for the last two movies. 16 hrs to visit like 3 planets and have adventures/encounters on each one? Come on. I get that you want to impress upon us that there is a time crunch they are up against, but even in a hyperspace travelling universe that seems far fetched. It was the same in TLJ where they had 8 hrs to jump to Canto Bight and have an adventure there, then jump in Snoke's boudoir and try and do the thing there. Just too much to do in so little a timeframe, it's so unrealistic as to take me out of this fantasy movie
I don't think either of those scenes were about an arrogant film maker. I feel bad for the actress who played Rose for what she went through, but her character was horribly written and that storyline just didn't work (even for people who didn't hate on TLJ). I think it would have been stupid for them to just pick up with Rose and Finn right where they left off in TLJ just because that movie happened when that story clearly didn't work for the majority of people who watched that film. And Luke's quip about the lightsaber felt like a nod to TLJ and his arc in that movie, if anything. At least that's how I took it.
