It's funny how normalised mental health has become for kids. Mini Delta apparently approached her mom a few weeks ago and said that a lot of the kids in the YA fiction she reads go to therapy because middle school can be a nightmare, and she'd like to try it, so now she's doing that. She hasn't told me anything yet but I'm going to bring up that I've started therapy too.
Pretty awesome really Considering when I was in college I was going to an occupational therapist for a hand injury, and when I talked about it the majority of people "joked" about me having mental issues lol
My dude will be 8 weeks Saturday and suddenly won't sleep without being held. He'll sleep for a few hours straight on our chest, but won't last more than a few minutes in his bassinet. The Snoo was a bust. He absolutely hated it. I brought up the magic merlin to the wife since he seems to be fighting to get out of his swaddle anytime we lay him down, but she's scared he'll overheat in it.
Update: We just tried to let him sleep with no swaddle. All was going great until he hit active sleep. Then he started kicking and swinging all over the place with his eyes closed for a while before waking up in a full on screaming fit. Wife placed a pickup order at Target for a Merlin. Will be giving it a shot tomorrow.
Hoping for the same. He was a really good night sleeper, but that has absolutely gone to shit the past week.
Little man picked up a fever about Saturday. No other visible symptoms. Not tired or affecting play. Not affecting appetite. No cough. Slightest runny nose but not really anything. Anyways, the fun part is the fever only had been coming in the evening, like right before bedtime. Anyways, fast forward to last night. Fever higher than it had been, he woke up after only 2 hours sleep and I watched him toss & turn from 9-11. That is not normal for him at all. Have not seen him do that when either sick or healthy before. Fever was still with him so more children’s Tylenol. He stayed with me on the couch until 1am watching tv and playing until 1am when he finally asked for his bed. Up this morning at normal time, breakfast as usual, but fever still present. I am rocking about 3 hours sleep this morning and get to go stand at a single job site for 4 hours in 40° temp with 20 mile an hour winds. I don’t see myself escaping this without becoming sick. Mom is calling pediatrician this morning for appointment. I do not understand how this kid can be so normal fighting a fever for almost a week. It is like it is an inconvenience for him and that is it.
90% of the time our daughter is sick and running a fever she has a normal amount of energy and just gets shit sleep.
We never did Merlin but we always had some type of velcro swaddle when they were a new infant, then Halo sleep sack, then now I think the brand we have is Kyte. My wife is adamant about them being in sleep sacks till theyre like 4 idfk but swaddle or some type of merlin/sack is a necessity for infants I feel like. As far as the overheating how cold it is in baby room? Even in the summer heat of Texas and Florida our kids have slept in the sacks (thin jammies or tshirt/short jammies in summer).
Confirmed unknown virus (that’s weird) and now ear infection. Most likely explains his increased intensity last night. Amoxicillin incoming. Rapidly approaching 3 and first ear infection. Guess we had been lucky to this point.
We finally found "The Ollie" swaddle. It is stretchy and velcro and the only thing that kept him in a swaddle for long periods of time.
All of my kids had tubes well before 3. Consider that a win. Amoxicillin is an easy one as long as you keep it refrigerated so the taste is good. Although, side tangent, my daughter was on it for strep last week. I was out of town and apparently it took my wife and her mom an hour to get her to take it and involved bribes. Each time for 2 days was an ordeal. I got home and my wife asked me to give it it to her. She started telling me her method to help me. I stopped her after a minute of her process and just said, I’ve got it. Within 1 minute my daughter took the medicine which of course made my wife pissed at me. The next morning I had to let her watch me give it because she either didn’t believe me or wanted to see what I do.
I thought a pharmacist had told me it was for the taste but that may have been Augmentin or the other common ear infection antibiotic. I don’t know. We went through a lot of them and ended up putting all of them in the fridge.
No idea the taste but liquid amoxicillin should be kept cold. I got a big earful from my wife when I left it out overnight.
I hope it works. I am also giggling because it looks like you have the little man splayed out in a padded torture rack.
When your daughter makes a comment that “Facebook is for old people” and you remember making your account back in the “you needed a university email address” days….
First night with the Merlin. We laid him down around 9, had to soothe him back down a couple times in the first hour or so, but then he slept until 5. That was wonderful.
Kstate’s QB’s parents invented and started the magic Merlin company thank you for supporting the cats
Happy for anyone that can get their child to sleep. I didn't get a full night sleep until 16 or 17 months. It's the #1 reason I don't want another child. Feel like we are getting a little payback now tho as he's still a huge napper at 2.75 years. I know other daycare parents that get no weekend naps. Lil Wed will sleep for 3-4.5 hours on Saturday and Sunday
Just minding my own business drinking some coffee and scrolling TMB.... look over and my son is standing in front of the TV watching cartoons with his pants and pull up around his ankles
Levi was better yesterday and even into bed. Then 3am hit and he was rocking a 103-104. Already has turned the corner again this morning so we will see what tonight has in store for us!
Now that my daughter is sleeping through the night, I have been lulled back into thinking having a newborn isn’t that bad. thank god I got a vasectomy.
The time change last weekend has been amazing for my own sleep. Now instead of 5:00 am wake ups he is sleeping to 6:30 it’s been nice
This is my wife. Glad I got it taken care of too. At times I wish my son had a buddy when I see others with 2 kids, but then I also saw my friend with a new born and the massive amount of attention/holding/feeding/crying snapped that outta my mind really quick.
My brother and I fought nonstop for over a decade and still have a 72-hour limit on civility. “Buddy hood” is far from guaranteed
Just hit 104.4 on a rectal thermometer after the point and zap read 105.5 on his temple. Called the pediatrician panicking and fully anticipating a trip to the ER but our pediatrician was not overly concerned. This is out first big temp spike during day, the previous issues have been at night. 1. Still alert and interacting. 2. Still eating (mostly smoothies and pouches) and more importantly drinking and having big pee-pees. 3. No difficulty breathing but the little bit of issue due ti his nasal drip that is picking up. This is not fun.
My older one did about 12-18 months of horrendous temps with sickness. Our ped said it was fine as long as the Motrin/Tylenol helps and he’s staying hydrated. The minute he stops pissing with a 105* fever is when you call the emergency line.
