My son got a fever on Saturday after playing outside in the snow all day on Friday. Not sure if related. He slept or just watched his tablet b/c he didn't feel good. It was almost like a day off from parenting
I'm mostly asking because I have a very light and shitty sleep pattern where I have to usually get up a couple of times a night to piss. I've read that waking a kid up in the middle of the night when trying to overnight train can lead to a bad sleep pattern being developed.
not bad Mine seems fine but he couldn’t go to school with a fever. So we walked to the park and Publix and now he’s sleeping.
Yall describing kids' ages by months that are greater than 18 months old has me shook. 32, 33, 44 month old? You trolling me? Looking forward to celebrating my oldest's 96th month birthday in a few weeks!
Reminds me of the breastfeeding scene from Grown Ups. "Your son is so cute, how old is he? "Oh he's erm 48 months" "That's 4..."
The ability of our 276 day old to take a 5 min nap and go full speed for 55 mins before crashing harder than PSU’s title hopes is something to behold
my dental insurance must kick ass. We paid $2,405 back in May for our daughter. edit: had no idea so I had to look. Plan pays for 50% of kids braces up to $2,000
I'm getting close to that. Are braces covered in full or partly for most dental insurance? I do remember it was a financial strain for my parents back in the day as I had to have them twice.
A lot of times, kids will get two sets these days: one when they are like 8-9 and another when they’re 11-12. My older one got the first set and it was $4k (which insurance paid for half); the second set will be $7k (which insurance will pay $0 towards).
In our case yes. I got a discount for paying up front. We'll get reimbursed for 2k from our insurance so our out of pocket will end up bing about 5600 bucks but we have to cover the full amount initially. Couple that with the fact that we had to be up and logged in at midnight to register/prepay for summer care to the tune of 2600 bucks, it's been an expensive morning.
I was thinking about braces for my kid this weekend too. Edit to add, he’s starting to play hockey and will probably just knock them all out after they come off
We use my wife's company insurance for everything, but we also get dental from mine as well because our oldest son is in braces and the younger one is likely close behind. We only had to pay about $800 out of pocket for my oldest son's braces and spacer thing so that was nice
Camp registration is such a clusterfuck. Damn people gatekeeping(as discussed earlier in this thread). There are 34 spots available for around 490 kids. Not all to use this service but still. Its a damn nightmare.
Yeah none of the camps we sign up for have this issue (we don’t have a city rec camp near us) but the summer impact to my bank account are way worse than holidays and it’s so annoying trying to find a camp that isn’t some sort of specialized. I miss my camp which was just general camp with sports, crafts, water, downtime, games, whatever
Back in the 90s when roller hockey was big here, my buddy took a puck to the mouth and wasnt wearing his mouthgaurd. The top front section of his braces ended up embedded in his upper lip and he had to have them surgically removed. That was the end of his roller hockey days. That had to hurt so bad. Never forget how he was screaming.
The best camp in our area (at least for us) is put on by the Lower Colorado River Authority So it's on the lake, they go fishing, swimming, boating. Do archery, survival skills and all kinds of stuff. Each week has a different theme, so its not just repeating over and over, and they take a field trip somewhere each week. Only downside is it's not every week during the summer. Last summer they were so full they added an extra week. We don't know which weeks they are going to have it yet, so it's some quick decisions when they release the dates next week
This is my first summer where my oldest won’t have daycare and I have no idea what to do. Just google <city> summer camp?
Well it wouldn't be flush with cash if I spent it now would it? Gives me peace of mind though that it is there when I need it.
Check with your local rec center. Also maybe reach out to the school she attends or will attend to see if they have any info or resources available
I know our school has summer/after school care through the county.... limited spots, but it's what we are trying out this upcoming summer. We did a day camp at a fitness center last summer, and it was good (field trips, swimming, etc.) but all the kids were doing activities together - from first grade through like 6th - so my little guy wasn't a fan. Hoping he's more comfortable w/ summer care through the school.
Still don't use it if you don't have to. Incredibly tax advantaged. Let time do its thing if you can afford to otherwise not tap into it. Edit: just finished reading and saw this was already discussed, carry on
Looked up summer camps at IMG for the hell of it, kid isn't old enough anyway. $2,195/week for an 8 year old
Yea, it takes some work to find them sometimes. I'm sure there is some local moms Facebook or something that has em, but I don't Facebook. As was said, check local city/county parks and rec department, check karate class type places, heck I found one that is offered by a place that does cooking classes....It's a week long kids cooking camp Look into what your state parks might have if you have any near by. There's always some at local churches too. Sometimes local libraries have kids programs and even if they dont have a camp might have info on them Many will send flyers to the local public schools throughout the year too None of the types of places we found that were the best camps came up in just generic Google searches
What kind of city/town do you live in? In my experience, a lot of summer camp info doesn't go live until February/March. There's obviously exceptions to that rule, but any kid activity in your area is likely going to have some kind of summer camp opportunity. Think dance & gymnastics studios, YMCA, Tae Kwon Do/Karate dojos, zoos, city parks & rec. Think of stuff like that in your area and just start calling and asking if they plan on offering anything over the summer. Busch Gardens and a nearby horse farm have been our splurge camps in the past, but we've done a lot of weeks at our YMCA, dance studio, a gymnastics center near by, and a Tae Kwon Do studio (our daughter had a horrible experience so we didn't go back to that one despite our son's pleas).
Ugh. 2nd ear infections for my son in the last two months. Got tubes about 3 years ago and the urgent care doc believes they have fallen out. Guess we're in for round two of tubes
Steve and Kate’s camp was clutch for figuring this shit out in late spring and the kids (6 and 4) seemed to enjoy it, if they have a location in your area it’s worth a look
