Things are finally starting to click.

    Bats are waking up.
Starting pitching stretching out to later innings in dominant performances.
    Bullpen is lights out.
POS Gary Sanchez has FINALLY lost his starting catcher roll.

For what? He can't hit or play defense at this point. Weird how his bat just got worse year after year. He was fastest player ever to 100 HR iirc. Now he can't make contact.

Yea I just don't think we'd get anything worth a shit. Maybe just let him sit and be a bench bat and see if he can figure out what the fuck is going on.

Estevan Florial is off to a hot start in AA. Two doubles and three HRs in his first four games. Hopefully he's starting to put it together and deliver on his potential.

The Yankee brass is nothing if not stubborn. Instead they'll double down on power hitting bums in an effort to get the wildcard. I fear you're right.

Me? I want a philosophy change back to a team that can manufacture runs with a sprinkle of power in the lineup. They need players with those skill sets to do it.

Lol no team has that mindset now. We're not going back to the 80s. Analytics has shown the best way to score is to walk and hit HR. Pitchers are too good now to string together 3 hits to get a run. League avg is .230. Our problem isn't mindset imo.

1b - voit has been out almost all year
2b - dj has been way below what we expect
Ss - Torres forgot how to hit
    3b - Gio is just a guy
Lf - haven't had anyone worth a shit all year
Cf - Hicks isn't good and is now hurt again
    Rf - judge is good
Dh - Stanton is good but very streaky

    Our lineup just isn't good.

The Rays and Dodgers are two of the most analytics centric teams in the sport and they're doing fine. Gleyber being bad at the plate and Vout being out is a huge blow to the lineup.

Absolutely brutal. And just hard to watch besides being bad. I've watched a good bit of Marlins games this year and it's incredible how much more enjoyable they are to watch sometimes despite being objectively worse with wins/loses.

Our roster/lineup construction is so bad. Basically everyone has known this for ages now. Just so easy to pitch to if you're a righty with a slider. Absolutely no lefty presence in the lineup. Gardner may as well be me swinging lefty at the plate and he's literally the only lefty in the lineup.

What’s up guys? Been saying for awhile in the Smoltzy thread that I don’t think we will end up resigning Freddie Freeman after this season and that we should trade him before the deadline since we aren’t built to compete this year. I’m not saying it will happen, but that it should. That would open up money for us to make a run at a top SS this offseason so that we can move on from Swanson.

Anyways, if Freeman were to became available, what would you guys be willing to give up to get him? He’s obviously a FA at the end of the season but his lefty bat would be a sight for sore eyes, I think. Also, playing in pinstripes for 3 months might be enough to convince him to resign with y’all, though I think he’s likely headed to LAA in the offseason.

Does he hit titanic homeruns once every 25 strikeouts because analytics tells us that's how to win and I've also been informed manufacturing runs is the way you win games in the 80's and nobody wants to win games like that.

It's not that they don't want to. You just can't. Evrry team has a pen full of guys that throw 100. That wasn't the case in the 80s. Pitchers are infinitely better now. Getting 3 hits to score a run just isn't an effective way to consistently score runs now.

Analytics aren't the problem. The problem is the players aren't very good (by new stats, old stats, any stats you want to use) and the roster is poorly constructed.

Hard to blame analytics when analytics aren't telling us this team is good.

I've bitched about Gary as much as anyone the last few years but he's been playing well this year. I wouldn't give him away for free. I'd listen to a strong offer but no team is going to give one most likely because of his 2020. At this pojt you may be better off to just try keep around a catcher with a 120 OPS+ until you find a better option. And that could be a while.

He's going to vanish in August and be invisible in the playoffs if we're that lucky like he has always done even when he's spent first half time red hot. This is Gary's way.

Also, don't we have to pay him after this season?

Na he has one more year of team control left.

And I'm not a big Gary fan but there aren't exactly a lot of options at catcher.

Last year is an outlier over the last 5 years. He's a good player. Plays good defense too.

Agree that it's not one player away. But we don't have much to sell and only gave up a 25 yr old minor leaguer so not sure how you can hate it. If we don't have anything to sell, may as well try to win if it doesn't cost a ton.

He can still play CF with Gallo in LF. Tonight we have Gardner, Allen, and Florial playing. I think we have room for Gallo.
