Had a shitty fucking day at work so the only thing I’m riding tonight is Daniel Ocean’s mom. And I’m eating pizza because I deserve it and fuck everything. Congrats on the win again, Beo.
Tonight's ride can eat a bag of dicks, and then another bag. I had nothing to give and almost turned it off a few times due to complete exhaustion. But, I finished and... I passed the 6 month mark of Peloton ownership on Wed. I crossed the 2000 total miles mark (2029 now) yesterday. I'm down 15 pounds (don't really have anything left to lose now), 4 pants sizes, and now have a resting heart rate of 53. Haven't seen the faint 2nd chin I had in 5 months. Despite monthly cancer treatment on Tues, I PR'ed last night. I'm finally back mountain climbing again. I'm a 9 year pancreatic/liver cancer survivor in six days...in the best shape of my life. Pretty fucking happy with Peloton.
I'm doing very well now. I was declared terminally ill 9 years ago, and now my docs think something else will kill me. I do need monthly treatments that make me feel like I have the flu and I'm missing about 10 pounds of internal organs, but my doctor is very pleased. I'm his 2nd longest survivor of this (rare cancer, clinic here specializes in it).
Strava shorting me a 10.5 mile ride today that would have given me the week’s title. What the fuck, man?
1st Peloton ride in the books. 60 min scenic, 572kj. No laughing, 1st ride in 2 months. Only averaged about half of my best ever 60 min ftp. I will be back in shape in short order though so get you shots in while you can. Also, I am a_tramp on Peloton. Go ahead and @me.
I’m assuming the scenic rides are filmed with a drone, but I’m surprised there aren’t more looky-loos pointing at it or staring as it goes by them.
My wife rode it in the showroom. Like it. Have to get used to the slight jerk on the pedals when you completely stop with the effort. Plenty of rides to choose from. Should be easy to get some time in on it.
Was so jacked/bummed about Tiger, PR'd with Jennifer Jacobs on her 30 minute Classic Rock ride from yesterday. She has become a lot tougher over the months IMO.
No where else to put this but since this is the only thread I mentioned my trip in, I’ll post it here. Trip was great. Probably dropped close to 2 grand all together. Tickets and hotel were 1600 by themselves. Glad we did it really cool to be with the wife and my two youngest to just hang out. It is not “relaxing” because of all the walking. We literally walked 20 miles in two days. My feet hurt like a bitch. Don’t let life pass you by enjoy the time you have with your loved ones. I was legit sad to have the trip end. Just made me understand even more how fleeting life truly is. I am thankful for being in good enough shape that doing this didn’t wear me out. Anyway Boo MFer! should get used to coming in first because my marathon training starts this week so I’ll be cutting back on the bike.
Took two days off because of work and social plans, so I’m buried on the Leaderboard. Back at it tonight and finally broke 600 on a 45 minute ride.
I had looked at Peloton's a while back but never pulled the trigger, my wife finally wants to get one also but neither of us has done more than a cycling class at the gym. Do we need to buy the family pack with fancy shoes and all that or can I pick up aftermarket and save a little money? Help bike!
Don’t buy the pack and waste money on the mat or weights. You have to have shoes, but you can get them elsewhere for cheaper. Just make sure the clips are compatible.
You can get the mat and weights for considerably cheaper on Amazon. I think there’s a list here and a rotation for guys to give out their codes if you don’t have one. That will save you $100 and almost cover the cost of one pair of shoes.
I bought the shoes at a local bike shop, but i was mostly concerned with fit with wide feet. If youre super confident on bike shoe size and fit, you can pull the trigger on the peloton package with someone's code here
I assume no one in here has had to return one, but does anyone know anyone who has? If I get it, and it just doesn't work for us (right now our biggest issue is where to put it) and I wanted to return it I don't want to get stuck paying some pickup fee or something for $500.
I have zero Peloton accessories, but my wife bought everything at REI or Dicks, so I have no idea what she saved. I would try on various shoes esp before just buying Pelo's shoes.
I went to a studio to spin for over a year before I bought my Pelo. I had never clipped in and always just did cages, so I was nervous. Plus, I have a 13-14 shoe size. I got the largest size they have and they’re a tad snug, but comfortable for riding.
I may have missed it as I was traveling as well but where did you go? I just got back from Ireland and Scotland. Had an incredible trip and I did the same. I walked like a grand total of 35 miles in a couple days. Thank god for Peloton. I gained 8 lbs due to whiskey, food and draft beer. Then came back and immediately started traveling for work. I gotta get back focused as I lost a bit of progress I have made. Plus I loved the way my legs toned up. All a work in progress.
It was just a 3 day trip to Disneyland. We stayed at a hotel about half a mile away from the parks. Saving up for a larger trip in a year or two but wanted to do something this summer. Doug what are your concerns? You should go to a showroom because they do charge a couple hundred to pick up the bike if you return it. Also I bought the mat and shoes from Peloton. My wife already had 5 ad 7 pound weights. Not sure what else you need. I am up on the code if you decide to get the bike. Make sure you download the app on an iPad to be able to get all other classes.
Biggest concerns is just where to fit it in our house without it stick out in the open somewhere, and my wife doing it 3 times and never looking at it again. We have a little office that it may fit in without having to rearrange anything. If I do get one I have a friend whose code I'll be using.
If you return it you’ll be out shipping to and from your house not sure how much that is. Fit is a tricky thing since you won’t know until you get it in the house. Also find out how long you have to return it I think it’s like a month.
I have mine shoved in a den area in my condo, room is probably 6 feet wide at most and it fits just fine.
I ordered the full package thing. Shoes, weights, mat, etc for me and wife. No regrets. I don’t have time to search for that shit individually, plus I’m spending 2k+ on a damn bike. Why not another couple hundred bucks for convenience.
It’s a little depressing seeing the strava group leaderboard, knowing that I’ve done a ride everyday and only being ahead of two people, whom have 2 less rides for the week. Fat guy with blood pressure problems, I know. Happy to be here and part of the group, however. I’ve lost about 15 pounds from diet and doing 20 minute rides in the past month or so. Need to drop 20-30 more.
