And now I remember why I never tried them last time they were brought up Back when 32 degrees were first talked about on here, they were the same way and someone on here assured me they were really longer than advertised. They were comically too short
I’m 6’5” and wear 32” inseam. Yay pants. I also have the torso of a 7 footer with 39.5” sleeve length. Boo shirts.
I bought some tshirts from Homefield a few months ago…3xl so they were long enough. I had my MIL hem them up on thanksgiving so they weren’t parachutes. I have to get my tshirts tailored.
My kids will be swimming in Jordans after Santa drops this load. I was shocked at how inexpensive these shoes were (with the Black Friday discounts). Two birds with one stone: Christmas gifts and I don’t have to buy them sneakers until the summer.
This is going to be a very open-ended question but for those of y'all that have purchased engagement rings before, is there any method to this madness? I know sapphire cut and the 4 Cs and that's about it. Any websites that are better than the others? Is it possible to find one on discount (Black Friday maybe?)?
I have a theory that you can get one for cheap at a pawn shop and then have the stone(s) put in the setting your girl wants at a legit jewler, but it's entirely based on vibes. I have no idea if there is any merit to that idea. how dumb am I (for this specific thought, considering other takes is not allowed) Nole0515
The most important thing is be sure to buy lab grown and set a budget before getting too far into things. You can go into a jeweler and they will gladly walk you through what to look for, tell them you need to think about things if you plan to purchase online- or if you legitimately need to think on things. Jewelers don’t expect most men to walk in with exactly what they want and purchase it in the same day.
I bought my wife a very expensive engagement ring the first time. She lost it. She now has a 300 dollar moissanite ring that she loves and gets compliments on all the time. I bought the first through James Allen and it was a good experience.
You’re about to get a ton of bad advice. Ask her what she wants, and get as close as you can to that within your budget.
don’t listen to them about lab grown diamonds. your fiancée is going to like the blood diamond so much better. just kidding, maybe, but in all seriousness I bought my wife a real diamond based on what she wanted. she got a little swollen during pregnancy and just bought a cheap replica and other women still complement it. pisses me off a little on the inside every time I hear that. prob could’ve saved a bunch of money lol
Has anyone else forgotten everything they learned about diamonds? I learned about it all, did the research, bought it, and now have forgotten all the ins and outs of it. All I remember is that the cut is very important.
Yeah my wife wants something new to compliment her diamond cause she lost her band. I don’t know shit.
I am a hs baseball coach so the spring is already pretty much chaos. Just hoping I don't have to miss too much of his stuff for my team.
Speaking of rings my wife had always admired her grandmothers ring. The ring was her husbands (wife's step grandpa) grandmothers ring that was handed down to him. Her grandmother passed about 5 years ago and my wife has been holding her breath that some day he would pass it down to her as he really has no other family. Well a few weeks ago he finally does offer it to her...to purchase for a ridiculous amount. Idk if I've ever heard of someone doing this, especially someone as old as he is and as far as I know not hurting for money at all. Put my wife in such a difficult spot as it is something she has admired since she was a little girl and was one of the only possessions of her grandmothers she truly hoped she'd get but what he is asking for is frankly insane. Not sure what we're going to do yet cause he said he'll sell it elsewhere if she doesn't buy it.
stric006 you are in the business so maybe you can answer this question. You know where I get my stuff from. Why is it that someone can go to a mid tier store around here and get the same supposed letter and carat for way cheaper than what I pay? Does it have to do with the cut? I know people that have bigger diamonds that are supposedly Ds or Es that paid half what I paid. I think my wife’s is like a H or somewhere around there, definitely not a D or E and it’s 2 carats and some change. I know people that have like 3s that are supposedly Ds for the same price that they bought from some random ass store. But some of these diamonds that are supposedly colorless are cloudy and not nearly as sparkly as my wife's. My theory is that the mid tier stores are somehow passing off mid tier diamonds as colorless when they really aren’t and they probably do a much shittier job cutting them.
I only look at the diamond when we are hanging out with Vanessa Bryant because a) it’s purple and b) Kobe bought that for her after the Colorado shit
I appreciate all the input, fellas. Based on all the advice I believe I'm starting with this one: Going to stop by a few shops over the course of the next few months then figure out a path forward from there. In my brief searching, I definitely think lab grown is the way to go. Cheaper and better for the world (though as soon as I say that I'm sure there will be articles abt how the process is still done by kids and creates some crazy isotope that never decays and I'm killing the world still).
If it’s not a “surprise” I’d also recommend bringing her along. Was hugely helpful for me and allowed her to sort of note what she wanted. I came back later and picked it out/designed it. Also think it’s helpful for them to see price differences and how the 4Cs work.
What is the relatively light weight Patagonia jacket that got a bunch of good reviews in here? It looks like the Nano Puff is the best selling. I thought it was a different one but maybe I'm misremembering.
If you were going to get a jacket for wearing around town when it is like 40-55 degrees, are you going with the nano puff or the down sweater? Both are supposed to be versatile. The down sweater is warmer. The nano puff is maybe more breathable and versatile .
Do not do that without having a conversation about it with her. The entire point is to make the recipient happy. As unreasonable or incorrect as it may be, if she wants a natural diamond, get a natural diamond.
The nano puff is absolutely elite and highly rated for a reason. I've had mine for 7 years, and Patagonia offers free repairs for life.
stric006 will have a better answer, but there is a degree of subjectivity in grading diamonds, and the grading organization can make a difference. EGL and IGI aren’t the same as GIA.
Yeah - when I did my research a few years ago this is what a found. A large store in Nashville that does a ton of volume advertises that they have GIA graded diamonds. But, most of what they sell are actually EGL graded, unless you ask them specifically to see GIA stones.
Update, he is trying to sell it to her for the price he got appraised for, not a cent less I wish she would say go find a jeweler and see what they actually offer you. As unfortunate as it is, she is going to tell him no, it's too much and if he wants to live the end of days selling off a family heirloom to a stranger knowing it would have been completely against his wife's wishes then he can do so.
Correct, grandma and him were together before she was born. More of a grandfather to her than her blood grandfather. He had no kids of his own and she is his only "grandchild" to speak of.
Maybe I’m jaded, but I think it’s kind of wild to expect to get the ring in that context. Kind of shitty by step-grandfather, but not at all surprising.
