To pre-empt a 5 god damned page discussion, the thermostat temperature (to me) isn't always indicative. If it's very cold or warm outside and the heat/ac is running constantly then I'm going to likely feel warmer or cooler than I would otherwise.

 

Every house is different and thermostat placements vary greatly, so a # in one house can be very different in another
