Guess I'm just #builtdifferent Also never received anything for failing to show up, though. I should play the lottery
Lucky you. I doubt they really enforce the contempt threat but it would be a gamble to ignore a summons. At the same time, you’ve got a good excuse.
Probably 4 times in 30 years, 2 in the last 20, and not at all the last 15. Maybe being on the bar roll helps.
My driver's license expires in 2 days so I just had to renew online to avoid visiting in person. It will expire in 2031 and will be my same picture from 2017. Will have to get it shipped down here and that, reader, is a huge pain in the ass.
Do you only get called if you're registered to vote? I was in a different county until 9 years ago, but was still fairly young Since I changed counties I've moved a few times and always seem to to vote right after a move
Summoned once Selected to serve domestic violence three days off work not guilty I enjoyed it (minus the part where we all kinda knew he did it but the wife wasn’t cooperating so there wasn’t anything we could do)
There was a saying at the first law firm I worked at that "the only ppl on a jury are the one's too stupid to get out of jury duty." I don't know if that's true, there were a bunch of assholes there. But I've always remembered that. In 10 years of litigation I've also only had one trial and didn't do jury selection so can neither can confirm or deny the accuracy.
Feel like I learned in school some cases basically cut you off from the world. I could handle the hotel part for a few weeks assuming I could bring my PS5, MacBook, and be allowed to go for walks or something. Couldn't handle being cut off. I'm curious what triggers that.
I mean hell if the Hampton Inn they shove you in has a pool and it's summer that wouldn't be all bad drinking by the pool on a daily basis
You mentioning the PS5 reminded me of a terrible business idea I had. Renting consoles. Like Uber Eats but they'd drop off a PS5 or whatever just for the weekend, come and pick it up on Monday. You can veg out on the weekend and not have the urge to play more during the week. It prolly wouldnt work but I'd be a customer.
One of my favorite bars in Seattle is a gamer bar that has like 10 Occulus Rifts all synched together, you can order local beers and play the same VR games with all your friends. It's an absolute blast, and also right next to a dispensary.
I'd end up hooking up with the mediocre looking girl on jury duty with me, but I'd drink so much we couldn't have sex to completion
Is having this star thing on your license actually important? My mom claims it is but she's a bit dramatic.
I just received my first one - no chance in hell I'm not getting struck 1st ballot unless this is a very unique case. I'm also not a resident of the state so I should be able to get out of this.
Jury duty wise I got lucky when I lived in Atlanta which is mainly in Fulton County and a small part in Dekalb county. I got called in twice when I lived there, but got out of it since I moved back and forth between counties.
Apparently you have to update the picture after 12 years. I will probably just relent and get a compliant ID.
this train crash in india is insane. 250+ dead, 900+ injured... 1 train derailed and then 2 other trains crashed into it lots of videos on twitter with the dead bodies, presumably waiting to be identified or counted.
Was summoned last week for jury duty. Went online the night before and they didn’t need me. Thankfully because it was the final week of selection for the Pittsburgh synagogue mass shooting
In DC, given the weird government and court system in place you have a high likelihood of being put on a grand jury for a couple of months, which is awful. Luckily I’ve never been selected, especially bc the lawyer thing isn’t likely to get you struck when half the damn panel are lawyers.
I have psoriatic arthritis I have to take a biologic injection for every other week. It got so bad in my feet I could barely walk before I started treatments.
I have heard that Dallas County jury summons come via standard mail. Quite possible that if I have been summoned they have ended up in the trash. It really is hard to keep up with all the junk mail that the USPS puts in my mailbox. Oh well, you win some you lose some.
Also, I will start showing up to jury summons when the judge, clerks, lawyers, and everyone else in the judicial system start working for $6/day. Fucking stupid system. That does not even cover the transportation coats to get to and from the courthouse for a lot of people.
Catching up: Ohio—renew license every five years and get a new picture each time. Also have to take an eye exam each time. Jury Duty—I’ve been called five times, dismissed four but served on a DUI case on last one. Unanimous acquittal, the guy was hit by another drunk driver turning into his own driveway. He refused to test, likely because he was drinking, but the female cop on video was a complete ass and the jury hated her. She was a terrible live witness too.
