Anticipation of another defection to the P12? This way they stay at/above the required minimum of 8 per NCAA rules for a conference
This is a new level of gross. I get (though despise) the B1G blowing up the Pac because FOX wants Oregon playing Ohio State, USC playing Michigan, Washington playing Penn State, etc. under their banner. But it's beyond the pale for the MWC to try and significantly weaken the MAC by pairing up Northern Illinois and Hawaii so a bunch of people in Colorado Springs can try and keep their phony baloney jobs.
Wouldn't hate this as a Sun Belt guy. Texas State is sort of an island out there and really has only had 1.25 years of good football in FBS and could easily revert back to the pre-Kinne days if he goes to Baylor or wherever. Get LaTech on board (if ULM/ULL agree to it) or WKU.
When did they change the rule about football only and all sports conferences? I remember ucf had to stay in the Atlantic sun because they couldn't be in a football playing league without football being in it.
the MAC dying and the A’s last game on the same day has me double pissed about late stage sports capitalism tonight
What happens to the rest of their sports? I can’t imagine the MAC will be cool with them leaving in football and hanging around in everything else.
They're going to try and get in the MVC I'd guess. If that doesn't work maybe the Horizon takes them.
hope VT drops a lawsuit on Monday. I don't care if we torch VT athletics to the ground (probably for the best) but I do want this conference to die a horrible death and all inside it to suffer with it.
Cause the ACC sucks donkey dick, and the two schools that take football seriously (I know lol this year, historically speaking) are tired of subsidizing Tobacco Road.
I mean, if the conference had done the right thing and said “OK, pay the exit fee and don’t let the door hit your ass on the way out” there wouldn’t be any lawsuits. Instead, they filed a lawsuit.
So tired of this shit https://www.espn.com/college-footba...-ten-sec-talk-possible-scheduling-partnership
the B1G having two elite teams every year with half the league being absolutely shit doesn’t warrant four auto bids. it’s among the most obvious revenue based moves in this whole realignment saga which is saying a lot
The top 4 teams in the Big 12 in that tweet are not anywhere close to elite. Hell the top team in the Big 12 in that ranking was given their “big” win and has struggled against some real questionable teams.
I didn’t interpret it as the same two schools are elite every year, but annually having two elite teams. The second team could be different every year.
not shocking that the B1G is so fast to rush to defend their shitty league and demand representation by fanbase size
that’s not really the point is it? the question is are the top two big 12 teams as good or better than the 3rd and 4th B1G teams and the answer to that question is very likely yes most years. and the B1G is not the SEC, never has been, never will be. so why on earth would we guarantee those 3rd and 4th B1G teams spots other than tv ratings?
The B1G has 3 of the worst P4 teams in the sport this year, and I would say unquestionably the worst in Purdue, NW, and UCLA. I dont really consider relative conference strength a good metric. If your conference is all just consistently mediocre, why would that matter for a playoff berth that only wants to include better than mediocre? OSU, Oregon, PSU would all be favored by more than a touchdown against any B12 team. For OSU and Oregon probably by 10+ Also this proposal sucks ass
I tend to agree with this. SP+ has 4 B1G teams ahead of the top BXII team. FEI has 5 ahead of the top BXII team Massey's ratings reflect the BXII has less bottom feeders in their league thus an average close to the B1G. but their top end isn't all that close
I think the hope for the cuter is that the B1G and SEC expand a little more and then work together to create a professional minor league football that takes almost all the money. And then the teams were left out reorganize to recreate “real” college football and that’s probably when I become a full time Eastern Michigan fan.
