“Here we’ve created this situation that’s left the sport in ruins and made remaining competitive untenable without selling out to predatory lenders. Now we’re gonna chastise you for it, k?”
Wonder if this is the beginning of the end for FSU-UF, UGA-GT, Clemson-SCar. People were clamoring for matchups with Rutgers and Minnesota instead.
Anytime you get a chance to drop regional rivalries and replace them with one off games half way across the country, you just have to do it
Would think that would spell the end of the Georgia States and Florida Atlantics before regional rivalries, but maybe that’s rose colored glasses.
The point of this is to get more high ratings matchups so they can garner more money from TV partners, I doubt they will be pushing aside other P4 games for this. These would replace G5 or FCS games. This is why the SEC and B1G wanted a guaranteed number of playoff spots, so they could play more high quality games against each other to make more money but not have to worry about the corresponding worse W-L records costing them playoff spots.
did not see anything in the article saying that the 3 Non-Conference games could not be played against ACC opponents would also think USC, Oregon, Washington want to protect their traditional non conference opponent.
USC, UCLA, Washington, and Oregon should be looking to avoid OOC games that require travel to the central and eastern time zones.
It has always been like that. I learned the NFL and HS football first, both of which are very structured, and make sense. My family trying to explain bowl games in place of playoffs to 8 year old brahman did not go over well.
Article mentioned that they’re looking to protect seven games: The four SEC-ACC in-state games Apple Cup Civil War SC-ND
Health of the sport aside, it would be nice for someone to force Franklin’s hand from the massive scheduling pussy he is and force us to play a decent opponent out of conference
For those unaware, our 2025 OOC schedule is Nevada, FIU, and Villanova. Originally we were supposed to host VT but the game in Blacksburg got cancelled in 2020. Our next two "marquee" home and homes are Temple and Syracuse. 2026: Marshall, at Temple, Buffalo 2027: Syracuse, Delaware, Temple 2028: Ball State, at Syracuse, UMass
I think the only major series that has been agreed to under him was Auburn. Pitt, WVU, and the cancelled VT series were all prior to him IIRC.
Big 12 after dark has set two records for late night games ratings this year, this latest number is close to double the last one (1.9M)
They aren’t going to lead with the bloody parts, but long term the only ones that will be playing college football as we know it will be the SEC and B1G. Everyone else is roadkill.
There is no way 2.4 million people watched Washington-Iowa. Just goes to show how hilarious the tv as a system sham is.
don't know where you've been for the last couple of months but just wanted to make sure that you saw that FSU is absolute dogshit
Fortunately the North Carolina and Virginia schools are picking up the slack! Oh….oh they are not. See, that’s our problem with the ACC. Since the move to 12….its been 20 years….only two schools have shown they can actually put their shit together. I’ll give Miami miiiiiiiiight have something this year. We’ll see if they can sustain that moving forward. TBD. Meanwhile, the states of North Carolina and Virginia have been abject failures. Six schools with state demographics that says they should be able to compete at a high level. But nope, six schools full of loser programs. You want to know what makes the SEC great? The depth. They never relied on just Alabama to be great. LSU, Florida, Auburn, now Georgia all picked up the slack to keep the SEC in the title conversation no matter what. What did the rest of the ACC do since 2005 outside of Clemson and FSU? They got a few charity Orange Bowl appearances that were contractually obligated. The reality is the ACC is a loser conference full of losers, and all you have to do is point at the record to prove my point. Now, who is at fault for that?
…that FSU willingly joined, and benefited from massively. You knew the deal when joining. Why cry about the downside?
You may have a point. It’s probably pretty hard in cfb to find too many teams that could go 1-6 against that schedule.
Fsu has always been a unique and rare entity in the college football landscape. We are beyond comparison.
The thing is, we haven’t benefited massively. Since 1992 (when we joined) only Bama has won more national titles (tied with several others) and we’re something like sixth in wins and winning percentage. Obviously this year, notwithstanding, we’ve kept our end of the bargain. Took Clemson a while to figure things out, but they’ve done so as well. Hell, they’re the proof point that the Carolinas/DMV produces elite talent while the region produces one college football program worth a shit. The loser programs in this loser conference for decades have been content to cash checks made on the backs of the few programs that actually try. They didn’t hold up their part of the deal. Again, who is at fault for that?
