Can't believe some of the reviews I've seen so far - they're acting like this film is the second coming. I don't know whether to be sceptical or impressed. Either way, I think I've been sucked into seeing it, but it probably won't be for a few weeks - there are some serious films coming out in March.
I keep rethinking about 4. Think I liked some of the kills and chases more than my ranking leads on. I should rewatch it.
Box office is looking at around $50 mil opening weekend which would make it the best of the franchise.
That was fucking awesome Spoiler Also, it’s quite obvious that Samantha’s character clearly enjoys killing
Spoiler They seemed to lay it on pretty thick about how survivors could snap and become the killer. Maybe they are setting it up for Samantha to be the killer in 7?
Spoiler Agreed. That damn sadistic ass smile she had before killing Quinn and the overkill on Detective Bailey, only stopping for a second because she thought Tara would disapprove. She’s a fucking lunatic
im not gonna be too specific cause he's pretty close friend and kind of a private guy. I think it's all set, but the xmas part idk for sure, he just mentioned that. He's also working on a reboot of something fun from the 80s with maybe gosling as lead.
i have no idea man, havent even seen 6 yet, just sounded like yall love this series so thought id offer a little juicy treat bout 7
Not bad. Not bad at all. A couple of things that grated a little: Spoiler - The only thing Mindy seemed to contribute was a bad case of verbal diarrhea - most annoying character in the franchise by far. - Even after taking a dozen knife wounds, it's still not enough to kill anyone. The Chad 'death' scene would have been fucking amazing... if I wasn't pretty sure he was going to survive anyway. ...but the rest was good. I probably agree it's the best in the series since the original.
Spoiler Mindy is full on Randy. Nonstop nervous talking it seems. The Chad fake out wasn’t needed. That kill would have been perfect. Two GF on one. It was a holy shit moment that should have kept the payoff.
Agree completely. Don't get me wrong... Spoiler I like Chad - they've done well to make him such a sympathetic character already. But that's exactly why he needed to die. And give me 1000 Randy's over Mindy. She was just straight out irritating. And yes, he was your uncle and that's why you're in the film. Got it the first time!
(Not so) Hot take - this instalment was better because Sydney wasn't in it. Don't get me wrong, I like Neve Campbell. She's great. But her absence allowed the other characters a lot more space to work in. Plus the whole Sydney thing is played out. There's nothing left to use. The change of scenery also worked a treat too. If you can't make a good looking movie in NY, I don't know what to tell you.
What an incredibly paced film. Like a 9/10. That final scene dragged on a bit though. When Jenna Ortega jumped down and stabbed that guy in the mouth and said “And you’re gonna die a virgin”. Man that awakened something inside of me.
1 [Pacific Ocean] 2 3 4 [Mariana Trench] 6 5 These last two have been so bad that I feel crazy. 6 felt like a kids show with murder. Seriously the tone of the movie is the same as the tone of a Disney show. Did no one else notice this? They found away to make 6 the goriest, but the least scary. These movies feel like simulations. I think that's the problem with a lot of legacy sequels though. They have a checklist of things they need to have and they build the movie around that, but audiences are smarter so we have to have some subversion. But with Scream there's nothing left to be subverted. We get it, just make something scary please.
what! It drug on forever. My wife and I kept looking at each other and rolling our eyes. you could have shaved 70% of it and made it more tense by having the first two crossings be relatively simple and then the shaking of the ladder would have been something good.
Spoiler Also once I sussed out they were soft rebooting 2, I immediately pegged that it was Mulroney because why else would he be in the movie.
Spoiler part of the reason these aren’t remotely scary is because they’re long as fuck. 2/3 of the movie is Disney tier social affirmation and relationship exposition. Who fucking cares. Then no one who isn’t outright bad even dies, besides a solitary extra in the form of the girlfriend
soft reboot of 2 but with a long, bad exposition that it’s a franchise— in the 6th installment like a year after they did a full requel!—with incoherent rules they didn’t bother to follow
Spoiler This is the most annoying part to me. Those twin characters aren't even likeable but they keep surviving after getting butchered the last 2 movies. Outside of Ortega I don't think I've cared for any of the characters in the last 3 installments.
Iron Mickey made the observation that these aren't as good as the lesser 80s Halloween/Friday the 13th/Nightmare on Elm Street sequels and I have to say I agree with him. Like I could be a nerd and bitch about Michael's mask changing, but they at least (kill me pls) understood the assignment.
We used to make fun of these for being incoherent plots to deliver slashes. Now we have these boring relationship driven plots and no slashes. We have to go back, Kate.
