Yea the other guy chimed in on the group text. Robot it is, I think. Sorry had my hand full, that is just a suction line. You would not be able to pressurize that line going back towards the pool, like a return. The Pentair Dorado is a pretty good pool cleaner. It works off of the suction line.
Yeah, it can be repurposed to accommodate a pressure based cleaner but that would involve tearing up and starting over on a good amount of whatever in the fuck the call those valve manifolds they do. Like I said, research robotics and don’t look back.
the dorado is a suction side cleaner so assuming his suction line goes through the pump basket then to filter i suppose it would work but on a bad day he'd be emptying that pump basket constantly. totally agree with you on the robot.
So they half-drained our pool and started breaking concrete as we're officially fixing the skimmer leak/crack we found in our home inspection (we got a $6k credit from the Seller and shopped around and got a $4k bid so that's good). Get an e-mail from our pool guy today that he HIGHLY RECOMMENDS replacing our lights while the pool is half-drained. He said there is water leaking into the bulb casing (below) and if it gets any deeper it could cause massive electrical problems on the back-end of the light system that could be a massive issue. He said the light is also an incandescent light which is discontinued, and he highly recommends the switch to LED. Is he BS'ing me for an upsell or could this be an issue and you would fix it too?
Incandescent lights are still available. So about that he is full of shit. That manufacturer (Pentair) is obsoleting certain models/wattages but incandescent pool lights are still a thing. That is an Amerlite. Jandy makes an incandescent that will fit in that niche as well. The part he is not bs’n about is lamping a fixture that has had water in it. I won’t do it. Some people will but that is not me. LED fixtures are about twice as expensive as incandescent. And to be brutally honest, they fucking suck. About 30-40% of LED fixtures from new builds get replaced under the 3 year manufacturer’s warranty that is provided when a full equipment set is installed. Not being a new build with the extended warranty, that is gambling with a sizable amount of money for a light. Pentair offers a 2 year warranty on white LED installed by itself, 1 year on color. Jandy is 1 year on both. If your controls are automated, Pentair computers will only seamlessly control Pentair LED. Newer Jandy Computer boards will control Jandy or Pentair LED but older boards will only accommodate Jandy.
LED's A commercial electrical contractor I know has said for about the last 10 year's something along the lines of 'you know, LEDs are great at saving energy and all, but the manufacturers just don't really have them figured out yet'
Thank you - so would you just replace the bulb and gasket on the existing light? Sounds like we have to do something here
I would not. I do not lamp fixtures that have had water in them. Some people do, I won’t. I would recommend replacing fixture. I would not tell you that you have to replace with an LED fixture because that is not true.
You haven’t lived until you’ve connected two fingers around the stream. And of course acted like it’s coming from your dick. And karate chopped it.
They said the water always has a green tint on day 1 bc the water from the hose has small particles that give it that tint until they all settle and the chemicals do what they do. My wife saw this on the neighborhood pool fb page.
Tempools is the builder, right? was it this company for the pool finish product? https://clindustries.com/pebble-pool-finish
I test mine every other day, my wife calls me the pool nazi, but I learned a long time ago if you stay on top of it, you don’t deal with bigger issues in the long run.
i did the first year or two i had the pool until i learned how it reacted once everything was dialed in especially total alkalinity
ok. and what is the product they are using to plaster? it doesn't seem like they manufacture the plaster itself.
Can be! Can be pink, purple, etc... or fire. We want with the clear bowls, looks like a clear glass bowl.
No idea. They travel all around the world to plaster pools and people come here for training so idk. Iirc they use CL Industries material but I could be way off. https://poolpromag.com/tempool-covers-the-spread/
Yea they've been great. Their home office is here so we were able to go to their office and go through all of the materials. They have 6-8 pools with different plasters so we could see the colors. Agua Pools was the builder and they have another 6-8 pools at their office so we could see more options. Agua built it, Tempools just came in to plaster it. Tempools plasters 65-70 pools a week here lol. All the builders contract that part out to them.
yeah, i would hire them to do a full remodel including plaster, coping, tiling, changing the spa to pool transition, full stone masonry around the pool, and potentially plumbing/skimmer re-placement work. So a sizable effort. They'd work in conjunction with a larger backyard remodel design/build project.
I know they ship crews to South America regularly but I think that's more for like resorts and shit. Idk if they do residences outside of North Florida but it's worth calling.
Scariest moment in my pool career just unfolded this morning. Customer having a big party this weekend and I was asked over to fix a pump leak and check all the equipment. So I am checking everything. The last thing I check is the air blower for spa. The instant I press the button on the automation to engage the relay for the air blower and explosion occurred. Momentary fireball, noise concussion so loud that I could not hear anything other than ringing, landscaping pebbles from the ground cover raining down, jagged pvc shrapnel everywhere with a piece even knocking my hat off. All while I am trying to figure out what the fuck just happened and if I am still in danger. About 5 minutes later I could finally hear again and there is still a slight ringing in my ears 1.5 hours later. I have always known that you can not do any sort of plumbing repairs on an air blower line without giving ample time for the pvc glue & cleaner fumes time to vent. That is why I always return the next day to reinstall the blower on the plumbing. But there was no plumbing done today, or by anyone recently on the property. Briefly spoke with the customer and she said they use the blower occasionally. I have spoken with several trusted industry veterans and the general conclusion is this. Someway somehow something highly combustive had found its way into the blower line. When and how is beyond any possible scenario that any of us can come up with. This is just not fucking normal. So the moment the blower motor engaged either a spark or the change in pressure caused the explosion. Still shaking. I would call it a day but these customers need the pump replaced for their party.
Thank you. The working theory currently is built up methane gas in the line from deteriorating once alive clogged material. But that is pretty heavily contradicted by the customers almost 100% certainty that they have used the blower multiple times in the past 12 months.
