Have you ever run close to that? I find that training for half and whole marathons ( for someone like me who isn’t running really fast) is about recovery. I ran a sucky time this year but I felt good a day or so later. When I ran marathons I trained so I could be good to go the next day. Did my 5 at a 10 min a mile pace. I’d love to run that fast but alas it isn’t in the cards.
Nah, not at all. GF's family is into it so I decided to be sporting and participate. Was completely unprepared for how stiff and tight my joints and muscles got past halfway.
Lots of hills after leaving Piedmont Park. Atlanta’s a tough city to run races, but I still love them.
Ran 5k this am at 9 minute mile pace. Not great but a couple minutes faster than last year so I'm pleased
I've been using MapMyRun forever but switching back to Strava this week. RunLyfe is TMB club, right? Walt Disney
Fidelio - that's awesome good for her. did you get her into running? how much does she run? my daughter is 8 and i've been trying
5k 20:44 or 6:41/mile pace today! Negative split that sucker too; 6:44, 6:43, 6:32. It was hot as hell, sunny, and very humid. That beats my best 5k set in 2016 (21:22) by a good bit. Still feels a long way away from sub-20, but working on it... actually, I'm NOT working on it, I'm marathon training and I never run that fast. I bet if I worked specifically on 5k speed I'd get there faster. Also if I could get a 5k in cooler temperature for once.
Ran a Thanksgiving half and set a new PR 1:54. I agree with everyone else, Thanksgiving runs are the best!
Her k-5 school does “morning laps” which encourages kids to run before classes start every morning. They get a ticket after each lap. 4 laps is roughly a mile, or maybe it’s 8...can’t remember. At the end of the year the top runner per class gets a trophy. Plus, i get her something too to incentivize. In any event, she’s been doing that with her friends and then it extended to 5ks with the same group and now with me at times. We live in LA, so there’s like 3 or 4 days a year when they can’t run due to weather. I guess it comes down to making it fun somehow and if you can find a friend or two who’s willing, that’s helpful.
Anyone have the Garmin Vivoactive HR? See it’s $125 on Amazon. Right now I just use RunKeeper but been looking for something like this.
Anyone know of any good online places to buy running shoes this weekend? Ideally want Brooks, but willing to try something else out if price is right.
I'm new to running and ran my longest distance ever yesterday. Since the run, my left knee hurts, it feels like a twinge on the front, bottom joint of my knee. It only hurts on normal, non-walking activities. Do I do anything other than rest and not run until Sunday-ish (3 days)?
My legs were sore as all hell for a good 4 days a few weeks ago, just rest till you're pain free then get back after it. That's my plan anyways.
Anyone else ever have a bout of Achilles tendonitis? I came down with it about 6 months ago (I think from running in Newtons, which can tend to make you “prance” and spring with your calf instead of glutes). I got rid of it on my left side, but right side is still killing me. I went to Airrosti (physical therapy and myophasia massage) for two months, but that didn’t help. Bought all the stretching gear plus a Hitachi massager (which the wife promptly discovered and stole, but that’s a whole different story). So is my only option to shut down for three months? Last time I ran, I couldn’t walk the next day. It’s been a month of no running now and it still hurts a bit to stretch it. I think I am going to wait until it feels perfect before trying to run again. I just hate spinning and am dieing to get back to running.
Fecta23 do you ever use the "lap" button on your watch or just always start/save a new run for each interval? I've tried both... I like the lap button, gotten used to it.
The lap thing is quicker. Last time I did 4x1200, didn't even have to stop for recovery in between intervals or anything. Just hit lap and keep running. Can pause if needed. But if you're like me you want to see exact stats for each interval and your run will just look like one long run in Strava (with normal default mile splits). So you can view each Lap in Garmin Connect to see all the good stats for each lap.
I fucked up badly this weekend. Of course I binged over thanksgiving, barely drank any good fluids, went overboard on Ohio State-Michigan day, then decided to hop on the treadmill Sunday morning. Did like 3 miles, hopped off without warming down then lost conciousness for a few seconds. All good now and saw a doctor but was pretty fucking scary as I was dizzy for a while and had no clue when it was gonna go away. Learned a good lesson and gonna be significantly more careful about everything from now on.
I've learned I can eat a ton, drink a good bit of alcohol, drink a ton of water, and get a good sleep, and be fine to keep running almost every day. Water and sleep probably key there. Glad you're ok Gunners that is nuts. With that said, I go some days where every time I stand up quickly I feel dizzy like I'm halfway to passing out. Not sure what it is. Haven't had it for a few days.
Thanks. I'm the same, good food and drinks are my reward for the long workouts. Just gotta keep it in check better. Lack of hydration is just laziness.
I've got a Fenix but I'm guessing it's similar on other Garmins. Main Menu>Training>Intervals>Edit Tons of options in there.... time, distance, rest, warm up/cool down.
I've heard of that, but I don't know how it could be easier than just pressing a button once whenever I want it to move to the next interval. Well at least on a track. If I was just running out random somewhere I suppose the interval session thing would help? yeah I have the Forerunner 235
yeah on the Garmin Connect website, I see I go to Training->Workouts-> and see this screen: I might play around with it. I normally don't like to stick to something so rigid though. What if I program my "warmup" to be 1.0 miles but the day I go to run I want to run 1.2 miles... ??? I'd rather just do it on the fly
on mine, I set the interval workout on my watch, and you can turn warm-up on. So when you start the workout, you are in the warm-up stage as long as you want, and you would press the lap button to stop warm-up and move to the intervals But yeah when you are on the track its best to manually lap, otherwise interval sessions are the way to go. It's nice because it beeps when you are almost done with a interval and when you are almost done with your workout
I'm not familiar with the online interface. Whenever I start my workout the warm up phase is as long as I want, the workout starts when you press the lap button once. As you mentioned, it's nice when you're not on the track. It's especially good for your rest periods.... gives a specific time/distance rather than just an open ended amount of time until you convince yourself it's time to go. Other features that are good: -Signal at the beginning/end of each lap (like Walt Disney said) -Keeps track of what lap you're on in your intervals rather than counting and remembering yourself -No need to remember to press the lap button
1 mile race in 5:38 today, beating my previous 1 mile best time of 6:17 in 2016. I'm gonna go roll and stretch my calves for a long time.
That's fast af, congrats. Did 10 on Friday, 8 on Monday, 8 on Tuesday, and my body is sore af and winter finally hit today. Will be swimming for the next couple months and hopefully not fainting again.
Nothing is more annoying than drivers that almost hit you and are totally in the wrong but act like you did something you shouldn't have. Got into a nice war of words with a dude that cruised through a stop sign (I didn't have one) in a residential neighborhood and almost hit me and then claimed it was my fault because he couldn't see me (I was wearing a running vest and light).
Walt Disney any word from Chicago? I've got nothing yet but seeing that results are going out on social media.
I stayed at the host hotel (Hilton Chicago) last time, and that was really fun being around everyone and great location to the start and finish so we will prob do that again even though its like 400 a night :/
You are officially accepted by me. Just to be able to have a real conversation on whether or not you will make it in is better than most people can achieve.
