Who were some of your favorite indie bands from the 80s/90s? I'm just starting to get into Fugazi
galaxie 500 or luna are really great from around that time. dean wareham is the lead singer on both so the sound is pretty similar, but I enjoy the luna catalog slightly more. he also had a really good solo album a year or two back
pavement is also one of my favorite bands ever
Sonic Youth, Pavement, Sebadoh, Dinosaur Jr., Built to Spill
80s stuff I didnt like until later, don't know where the definition blurs on indie, regardless, stuff I enjoy.
Gang of Four
Lots of other 80s post punk type shit I like. Very subjective though.
I guess more late 70s, but television are great as well
I have that type of stuff on a playlist called 70s/80s Alt
Aren't they nu metal?
Jk that's Powerman 5000
the cure, pixies, psychedelic furs, talking heads, jesus and mary chain, talk talk, violent femmes, mission of burma, stone roses,
2 random galaxie 500 related facts that I’m not sure why I have in my head:
1. When they were starting out at Harvard, their drummer didn’t own a kit, so he borrowed one from Conan O’Brien
2. The song Naomi by Neutral Milk Hotel is about Galaxie 500’s bassist Naomi Yang
Again, not sure why I remember either of these
That's some good trivia. I posted this in another thread, but it went unnoticed so here it is again.
Remember that "Real Hero" song from the movie Drive? Who would have thought it's about
Captain Sully Sullenberger
good suggestions. I’ll add Spacemen 3, Minutemen, Talk Talk
Bonny Light Horseman - Exile. I adore Anaïs Mitchell's voice.
I adore Eric Johnson. huge fan of this project
Whitmer Thomas - Rigamarole
he’s on the tim heidecker album too
Gotta be a different Eric Johnson than I’m thinking of
Fruit Bats eric johnson
I saw them all of these artists open and play with Big Red Machine in a pretty small venue. It was super cool.
Big Red Machine is The National meets Bon Iver right?
they’re opening for bon iver on his tour right now too
it’s mostly the aaron dessner and bon iver show
well, every track's been really different from one another thus far, so hopefully we don't get another one like this on the album...
oh man this is great, band out of Venezuela called Zeta
reminds me of the glory days of Omar Rodriguez Lopez's solo albums
In Undertow is such a gorgeous way to open an album. I really can't wait for this new Alvvays LP
Man, Chat Pile’s debut is the first new band’s debut to blow me away in a while. Holy shit, man.
Russian Circles - Gnosis
Alvvays - Easy On Your Own?
This came out Friday and didn't get a ton of pub that I saw, but I really fucking like it.
Yes yes yes
Wow. Fuck. Hopefully they'll tour outside the south
just discovered The Beth’s a couple days ago…very pleased and exciting to go thru their albums. Got Uptown Girl on repeat right now
Momma - Making of Household Name (Official Documentary)
Pretty sure this girl dates the dude from Dehd/NE-HI
Just left Lake Street Dive in Chicago. Jesus Christ they are unfathomably talented and just put on a tremendous show.
I'm on a fucking run of shows this week.
just saw wilco outside. national was last night. lots of fun
Love this Rat Tally record from Friday
And this from Friday is all bops and bangers. For folks who liked the Olivia Rodrigo and/or girl in red records from last year.
Saw her earlier this year open for ratboys and ratretirement party. She rocks
How was Outlandia? I wasn’t able to go. I hope they had a decent turnout given the lineup.
real good. one of the best organized festival environments I’ve ever been in and the crowd was perfect
The Beths - Knees Deep
Saw First Aid Kit and Lord Huron last night. Great show but I had a few too many beers so I was hurting most of the day.
Tonight is The Beths, Alvvays, and Courtney Barnett.
who's down for a trip to Mexico?
