On My Knees gets me so pumped that line "Here comes the sun and the birds all scream it's time to go to sleep"
They’re really going to blow up. My buddy delved into the DIY music space while he was at IU med school in Indy so he would cross paths with Kevin quite a bit. I know his last band disbanded under messy circumstances, but my understanding was that he was neither involved nor knew what happened. I was able to catch this new band last summer and they’re great live
They're opening for Momma for a bunch of shows right after Phoenix but are not listed for the Phoenix show. Currently no opener.
I wish this was the OG thread. Wanting to go down a 2010 rabbit hole tonight. What were we listening to?
TC if you were in Columbia then you were listening to the first Toro y Moi album Causers of This. went to the album release at NBT
MJ Lenderman did a cover of This Is Lorelei’s indie pop song Dancing in the Club, and it’s great. Original for reference
I was just coming to post this. I heard Katie Crutchfield (Waxahatchee) talking about him the other day, and it is amazing the reverence other talented people have for him.
He's got it all. Looks + talent, plus just so happens to have the down to earth background of person who worked at ice cream shop in mountain hipster center Asheville. He's done GQ but so far still carries himself as aw shucks, lil ol me. Easy to revere I'd say. He even broke up with Wednesday singer and stayed friends. Who doesn't love this guy
MJ's guitar work and songwriting on top of the nice guy who tours relentlessly persona is extremely endearing. Andrew Savage is pretty easily my favorite songwriter of this indie era. Lenderman might be the only person I can think of off the top of my head with a chance to get near him assuming he keeps on this prolific track. Tim Darcy is in the mix for that second spot right now probably
we gotta be getting new music from Dry Cleaning soon right? they reissued their first two EPs last year but haven't had a LP since Fall '22
that dutch interior album is solid. feel like it would go over pretty well for a lot of folks in this thread
i can’t remember liking a musician this much. i got to see him at the Orange Peel last year and it was incredible.
Got to see Beth Gibbons (Portishead) first US solo show last night in Knoxville followed by DARKSIDE. It did take a 20 minute walk between venues but well worth it.
New Lucy Dacus is so…blah. Whole album is just stuck in neutral musically. Best two songs are Talk and Most Wanted Man where she gets heavier, brings back an electric guitar and some oomph. Also a weird Hozier collab for some reason.
