I read the cliffs on the Bill Simmons sub reddit and sounds like Tynes --- a 20-something Black dude who, by his own admission, wrote about whatever he wanted, hosted his own podcast series and parlayed that into a job at a prestige publication -- left because the Ringer doesn't promote its Black employees.
The idea of someone being qualified to be second for mvp but not first seems sort of strange to me. So embiid can go down as a second place finisher, but shouldn’t he take a back seat to Giannis too if you’re being consistent with the logic supporting Jokic ahead of embiid? Jokic is the mvp. For the sake of debate I just think the qualification for games played is all or nothing. Like if you didn’t play enough to win the award they should put an asterisk by his great season and omit him from the top 5 convo.
Bill not understanding Russilo's joke about Goran Dragic and then flailing around trying to make his own joke unsuccessfully 3 times was really rough.
the total drive-by "You know... the 2018 Cavs had a better roster than people remember!" uhhh no. No they did not.
Miss me with the endless Steph Curry jerkoff sessions from Bill when he gave Kevin Durant all the credit for the 17/18 titles (all to undermine LeBron of course) and kept tossing out the Dame vs Steph stuff last year
i thought Bill did a good job on the interview. Bill obviously knows shit about actual fighting but pressed him on the right things.
Yeah honestly I was expecting to turn it off after about 5 minutes. I didn't really learn anything new but it was entertaining at least Dana's shpiel about how we're Americans and we don't hide in our homes from a virus would have also worked equally well as a parody. "How do you even hide from a virus anyway?" killed me
Van Latham (sort of) wins an Oscar Jason Conception won a (daytime) Emmy The Ringer is halfway to an EGOT
Maybe it appears on a pod this week, but I'm bummed Bill abandoned the "5 year Oscars" concept he's been doing for years where he with 1-2 guests revisit the Oscars 5 years after the fact to examine what were the best movies from a given year.
Of course Bill gets the “The CIA got you pushing too many pencils?” line wrong to start the pod. Great group though. Bill, Chris, Shea and Kyle Brandt.
About 1/3 of the way through so far...Bill’s Arnold impersonations are so fucking bad. I’m starting to like Kyle but I wish Van did this episode in his place. Van is really good on this pod
Have never heard the Luck impersonations but Luck has a deep almost Slagathor type voice so I’m assuming it’s pretty bad
awful news on Tjarks. Really enjoy his stuff, in terms of writing he's probably the go-to NBA guy over there for me and the pod he's been doing with KOC and Kyle Mann has been great. and yeah seems like a good guy, just terrible
"His dad played tennis... his mom played tennis... his sister plays tennis" I have no idea how good Mac Jones will be but that was possibly the dumbest bit of player analysis I've ever heard. Surprisingly not from Bill
you'd think extra media attention for your media product that makes money by getting listeners for your ads would be the goal but no
I love when Kyle leaves stuff in on the Russillo pod which should be taken out. Left in a discussion about setting up Carson Palmer to promote his CBD oil.
people who don't actually analyze or know about the sport they are covering so they rely on what other people say in order to fill time also known as Peter Schrager
well Bill doesn't watch any college football but he already knows the TE from Florida has the floor of Travis Kelce's career
I know it is sponsored, but I can't care less what the odds are a certain guy gets drafted at 14 are. I'd rather here which WR compare to Bill's dogs.
