don't the Yankees still do that god awful God Bless America every 7th inning? Sorry that your beloved Republican party is getting people killed Johnny
when the Red Sox are contenders, baseball is BACK! but when the Red Sox are mediocre, nobody has baseball conversations! crazy how that works
“This series was a battle” is gonna be the line of the day from bill to convince himself this wasn’t a garbage conference finals
He made it seem like it was some classic epic series between Boston and Milwaukee when Middleton was out the whole time
Smart and Rob Williams playing banged up is somehow equivalent to Middleton or Herro not playing at all
"I think he really elevated himself another level this series, and this just makes me realize I had Durant too low in my pyramid, I got him up to 5th now"
when it almost seemed like the heat were going to steal it I thought "maybe i'll listen to my first pod in a year"
"i think we're really going to see why he is at the start of one of the great defensive runs of all-time"
It's gonna be the same bullshit Perkins just spit out on ESPN, how he "beat" Durant, Giannis and Jimmy Butler then again Bill is the same guy who says the 2017 Finals were an even matchup talent wise and KD "outplayed" LeBron
I've been listening to some of his pods with Russillo because Russillo can kind of poke fun at him enough to get him off some of his ref rants and whatnot. They're both annoying when it comes to Boston and I end up skipping around, but I can at least listen to some of it. I can't listen to Bill talk NBA with just about anyone else at this point because he just becomes a freight train of stupid whenever Boston is any good and he gets excited.
Ryen by himself or with other hosts/guests is fine and I've listened to that podcast weekly for some amount of time. When Ryen and Bill get together, Bill seems to be able to talk to Ryen's inner Celtics fan and he barely lets it out that he may like the team from the region he grew up in... in the sport that he talks about most, that he watches the most, and that he aspired to work in
Russillo seems like the only person at The Ringer when it comes to the NBA where Bill respects or cares about his basketball opinions. All the other guys he just talks over, but when Russillo disagrees with him he'll clarify stuff and shape his opinion to try to agree with him. It's weird. Simmons views Russillo as the cool kid at school that he is desperate to be friends with. I remember last year before the draft where Bill was all in on Mobley and wasn't as high on Cade, even though KOC (who runs their draft content and rankings) had Cade clearly #1 and talked him up on his pods a lot. One day, KOC was on his pod and Simmons goes "I wasn't sold on Cade, but then I read a Mike Schmitz article about all the ways Cade scores and now I'm convinced." KOC had to feel about as small as it gets at that point and was like "yeah, no shit that's what I've been saying for months". He's doing the same thing this year with Kyle Mann/KOC on Chet and the guys at the top of this draft.
thats what he did with "his guy Jabari" from Auburn. He heard Russillo talking him up and just decided he was all in on him too despite having never watched him. Then he just repeats Ryen's talking points about him whenever he's talking draft with anybody else.
Russillo actually views the draft realistically, i.e. you can like multiple prospects and also realize most of the top 10 will never be what people project them to be. Bill on the other hand views the draft as some type of weird competition where you have to put all your chips behind 1 guy and "defend" him against the other top prospects
i kind of make fun of russillo for saying that he "watches the games" or whatever. but i actually believe he does have league pass on every night. he's weirdly distant from the gambling stuff so idk if he's watching as closely as he leads on though
And then, in the years that follow, you just make up whatever you want to say you thought the guy who turns out to be the best was going to be that guy, even though there's hours of content from daily pods that might say different.
iirc it was if you're basically starting at zero, it's Banchero if you have pieces, it's Jabari Smith if you're not worried about losing your job as a gm, it's Chet
I'm pretty sure he has an old running diary of the Florida vs Ohio St national championship game where he says Oden should be the #1 pick and yet he's spent the last however many years blabbering like he was the only person who ever said KD should go number one
I'm embarrassed I remember some of this stuff, but I think it was a mock draft he did with Chad Ford where Simmons had talked for weeks/months about how Durant should be the top pick, and then he had the first pick and took Oden instead of Durant.
is he being asked about which sport he played? and are construction guys betting on which one it was? because ryen went hard on leg day this past year and recently told this story, which totally happened
Warriors didn’t have to play against Ja (for part of the series)! And Mavs stopped making shots! ignoring that: Middleton didn’t play against Boston. And Miami didn’t make shots!
Boston has been taken to 7 games by banged up teams missing their 2nd leading scorer, yet them winning these ugly games over hobbled teams is somehow proof they are the 96 Bulls defensively
I laughed when Perk said that. Even if you give him Durant or call that a push, Giannis and Butler were clearly the two best players in the last two series
