Can't speak to the ND one but I went to the Oregon camp for 3 years. Granted this was like 2 decades ago at this point, but Bill's kid would get a nice dose of reality going against actual power 5 prospects in drills and against the "renegade" teams that the program puts together
I immediately thought of this thread when he said that. Still hates how the coach uses TOs. Never change
I had a lot of car time today and tried to listen to him and Gladwell and I almost drove into a tree with Malcom’s draft pick thing or letting coaches decide they only have 2 timeouts per game. I’m kind of in on Bills “let the 1 seed have 5 home games in round 1” type theory. but this was worse than Gladwells Nigerian Olympic team thing that made no fucking sense.
don't know what was worse, Bill saying the Pelicans won the AD lottery when they were still in Charlotte, or including the Lakers in anything other than the bottom 5 of the Power Poll
I actually like gladwells thought of having weird home team quirks but not sure about the timeouts. And the decide the lottery order halfway through the season is insane. What i couldn’t figure out was why he was talking about when he was saying a team picks for another team? I was halfway paying attention and could not figure out what tf he was trying to say.
the custom 3pt line thing was an idea from Kirk Goldsberry from about 5 years ago https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/26633540/the-nba-obsessed-3s-let-fix-thing i still think the ideas are fun ways to curb 3pt shooting but i really dislike what modern NBA basketball looks like
I think the court should be wider and the corner 3 shouldn’t exist But I have no fucking clue what gladwell was talking about I did go down a super shoe wormhole though
Example: Last year the rockets (Not fact checking so whatever) were the worst team in the league, so before the season starts they would get to choose first which team they think is going to perform the worst and get their pick and since their pick is not related to their record they dont have the same level of incentive to tank.
That stuff might be kind of funny to think about but this isn't your fantasy football league where the last place guy has to play a round of golf in a dress
Just got around to listening to the Robin Hood Prince of Thieves RW. Legit laughed out loud at 2 Van Lathan lines Bill asked what the theme of the month was again and Van dropped in “the painted man?” and when he said Miriam turned to take a look back at Robin one more time “and the saddle was just soaking wet” CR and Bill let both go but they were home runs
bill supporting and commending the lions' 4th and 2 decision is laugh-out-loud funny given his past comments on "analytics" and whatnot classic case of someone who likes decisions when they work and hates them when they don't
Loved that pod but I also watched the heck out of that movie as a kid so I’m biased. All the stuff about Costner mailing it in never even registered but it totally makes sense now.
he is being proven right about Steelers and Bills but not really for the reasons he said. He thought Pickett had turned a corner in the preseason. The Bills falling apart isn't quite what he had in mind.
i've never been a fan but Doc is such a good asset for the recent podcasts. he has really good insight of both on-court and off-court issues and has zero concern over criticizing players because i'm guessing he never coaches again. it's so refreshing from current sports media where even columnists don't want to upset anyone and risk access issues later.
I came to post I really liked that entire pod. Bill nerding out with Doc on nba and then talking streaming shit with that guy is really good
Thursday with Mallory I’m pretty sure he said he’d take Marvin Harrison 1:1, by Sunday he needs the pats to lose to up their chances of getting a top two pick of Williams or Maye.
he'll have all his bases covered by April #1 pick - "Sal, I've been diving head first into the YouTube videos...how is Caleb Williams not just Mahomes 2.0?" #2 pick - "Sometimes you can just tell by a great QB name, Sal where does "Drake Maye" rank among the best quarterback names, he's gotta be top 3, right?" #3 pick - "We see it every year in the draft, half these quarterbacks flame out! How are we not better at this? The Pats just got the best player in the draft, gun to your head you'd say Harrison Jr has a better career than his dad, right?" #4 pick - "Everybody knows the best teams are built on the line Sal, look at the Eagles and the Lions, a great LT can transform any QB another level, look at Jared Goff!" #5 pick - "Bo Nix is the best QB prospect since John Elway" - (oops, this was Bill's guest calling in from Alaska)
I watched The Killer recently and listened to TBP pod about it. And holy shit I did not think that movie was as good as those three did.
College football update from Ryen: he watches the games and would put his watching resume up against anyone's
