I have listened to almost 3 hours of this podcast. I am currently at the part where they are debating whether heroin makes you shit all the time or if it makes you constipated. Going to need things to pick back up soon.
haven't listened to part 2 yet but if it makes you feel any better I was laboring under the belief that it constipates you, whether it was coincidence or not Vince goes to the bathroom 3 times in the movie...at the diner, at Mia's house, and in Butch's apartment where he ultimately got got
It’s on Paramount+ with showtime randomly. Along with rounders. Have to assume Billy has that subscription
“Are we sure we want to run the Olympics team through lebron and KD and not Tatum who just won the championship?”
the fantasy football pod isn't all that much about fantasy. i'm not a regular listener because there is the fantasy element woven in but it's mostly three guys casually talking football. it feels almost like a radio show than a modern football pod. the guys are (immature and dumb but also) funny and mostly just joke around.
Listening to Part 2…the take my wife out while I’m out of town actually happened to me. My buddy had to leave town for work and asked me to take his wife to an Oregon State football game. I accepted. The Beavs upset #1 USC that night with Erin Andrews & ESPN there #coolstorybro
no, but at one point in the 4th quarter she looked at me and asked if I wanted to rush the field, I said no and she thanked me with a hug....that's as racy as it got
I finished the Pulp Fiction pod. I love listening to Chris and Sean talk about movies. Chris doing the Doris Burke announcing the movie bit was funny and made me glad I stuck through to the end. I also believe all alleged interactions Bill has with his kids while they allegedly watch these movies with him belong in the "That child didn't say that" thread. And that producer Craig talked way too much and has horrible movie takes. And that they could have easily shaved 1.5-2 hours of that pod off pretty easily and lost almost none of the good bits.
I didn't mind the length one bit, felt like this is one of those movies that deserved the time it took. Maybe it's because I love QT's work and could listen to that kind of content all day. I'd probably feel the same way as you if it was a different movie, like I would have no desire to listen to 5 hours of say a Goodfellas Rewatchable pod. but CR's Doris Burke bit was fucking great
I still have a bunch left, but the Vinnie Chase award segment listing all the characters who weren’t good at their job had me rolling.
To each their own. I'm glad people liked it that much. I just have a hard time with Bill because he's so weird and has no filter/editor that the longer he talks, the more it becomes about gimps and bimbos and other stuff popping into his head that makes me cringe.
i dream of the day when bill takes a leave of absence and sean gets to control the feed give me a month of nicholson in the 70s or something
'Racehorse, Band name, or fantasy name' category they missed one of the most obvious one, "Royale with Cheese"
knew a big player was going to snag him. wonder if they'll keep him on pods or move him to TV. he'd look hilarious on a set. amazing how much ringer and ringer-adjacent talent ESPN is acquiring these days
Both pods were great and glad they dedicated that amount of time to a groundbreaking movie. Oddly it’s my fourth favorite Tarantino movie but just proves how great a lot of his movies are. Very enjoyable and will definitely listen again over the weekend doing yard work.
Got a little loose at the end, but understandably so. Bill picking a shitty movie from the 70s as his double feature was so in character.
bill as a free agent. The guy that runs this account thinks Bill goes to Amazon, does 1 pod a week and does nba content for Amazon studio show. the ringer website would be shut down id imagine
Wow I wonder what happens to stuff like the Rewatchables? Bill becomes a guest — does he take a small team with him?
I don't understand what Bill would gain from leaving. There wouldn't seem to be anything stopping him from doing something with Amazon for the NBA now, and leaving to go create another site would seem to be bring about a lot of negative feelings towards him at The Ringer. Especially if he tried to steal some of their better people away and gutted the site he spent a decade building.
Bill would likely gain $150M over 4-5 years and equity in a new platform from Amazon. I’ve listened to the How I Built This with Bill and as you might guess, he continues to believe in his own divine provenance over just about everything else after all these years. My opinion, he doesn’t see the potential for “negative feelings” from Ringer folks. He thinks he’s already given those people more than they could have ever dreamed without him.
Chris Ryan guest appeared on the newest episode of Blank Check to talk about Open Range, and he says they've never covered it on Rewatchables because "the first hour is a little... deliberate for Bill."
I don’t think I was aware this movie existed. It appears to have been a modest financial and critical success, but it’s also 2hrs and 20 minutes long.
I threw on open range yesterday and haven’t finished it yet. I’ve definitely seen parts of it. Tbf, that first hour is incredibly fucking slow.
