Our district “learning services” is doing everything.

they will have a dedicated website to communicate and put out weekly assignments per grade level. There won’t be collected or graded.

high school kids can use it to make up credit and raise grades.

teachers can’t post anything. Unless a student asks for feedback we stay out

We are providing supplemental education. Starting Monday we are doing a packet that will be sent home. 1-2 assignments per subject per week. None of it is required, turned in or graded.

We are going full online starting April 13. I’ll be using google hangout and going from there. Luckily my entire science curriculum is online and there are tests and things students can complete. I am going to do my assessments through google forms I think.

If others have good tools and strategies for this new world please share.

Let me know if you need any pointers.

off the top of my head:
    - Use the waiting room to admit
    - default to “mute on entry”
    - your choice whether they can unmute themselves or you need to handle that
    - record the call and let them know that they’re being recorded
    - green screens are fun

Are you going to have them all turn on video?

    Disclaimer I'm not a teacher:

kindergarten boy had his first zoom class yesterday
It was easy for the wife to get set up and get him going
He enjoyed it, teacher just read a story to them and did what they call 'circles' where they go around and tell a story each
He got to show the new puppy to the class and see and talk to them all, which he was really excited about

Sounded like they had like 12 of the 17 kids on there, which was more than I might have guessed

Our school district is setting up wifi busses at some parks and parking lots around town so anyone who doesn't have good internet at home can pull up next to it and access wifi with their school devices
Though that was a really good idea, and impressed that the IT guys got that tossed out there so quickly

Our district (and I assume most districts) has gone with no new information, review optional assignments, course recovery option. Can’t take grades because of access and IEP issues

Schools closed for rest of year in Georgia today. I knew it was coming but it sucks because we never got a formal bye. Fortunately I have been able to virtual teach the last 3 weeks and I delivered my last new content of the year yesterday. I also have a good group and we are going to have fun tomorrow during our scheduled live session but I may cry.

My district is 1:1 so we are still virtually teaching. I teach all AP Physics (11-12). Some counties announced today that the grade on 3/13 can be final grade if student chooses. My wife teaches one county over from me, and she hasn’t been able to do anything because they have no tech.

All online, free response only. They are giving more specific details tonight for teachers and then made public tomorrow. The in person reading (grading) has been cancelled and all scoring will take place from home too.

No grades/New content for the remainder of the year. Teachers will offer optional lessons/activities each week. Kids can if they choose to, take up to 5 different makeup assignments for each class to raise their averages for Quarter 3. No child’s grade can go lower than what they had at the end of Q3

dude we have a habitual offender too. she’ll say things like “what are you, STUPID!?” to kids in class and then gets triggered when they storm out of her class and refuse to leave my office to go back. like she’ll leave her class unattended to follow/harass the kid all the way to my office.

the kicker is she has a special needs son. i guess she think that gives her license.

as much as this closure has negatively impacted kids who need resources, I’m happy for the kids who are having the best educational experience of their life by not having to actually go to school :idk:

Principal had a zoom conference with our department today. Got a look at the tentative master schedule for our department next year.

    - I have 9th graders for the 7th straight year. World History
    - Same off blocks for the 3rd straight year.
    - We’re losing our A.P. US History teacher, so he wants me to get certified for it. (Guess I’ll bite the bullet and do it)
    - Finally, the most important one. Another year not having to create entire new lesson plans because I’m teaching the same class :rockin::rockin::rockin:

So, we've decided that since we're only using Q3 grades to determine S2 averages...each teacher would create 5 graded assignments for students to complete to replace a lower Q3 grade. I created 1 test, 1 quiz, 2 classwork assignments, and 1 homework assignment. I got an email from a parent this morning saying that she and her son found the assignments on my class page, but can't find the material needed for the assignments.

Doing a drive thru graduation. Seniors drive through campus and come to various “spirit stops” before arriving to a point where the graduate gets out of the car and walks across the stage to get their diploma. Their family’s car will be right in front of the stage in the car line when they get the diploma. My job is playing valedictorian and salutatorian’s speeches on the Jumbotron of the football field.

    - Anyone retiring?
    - Anyone changing schools?
    - Anyone leaving the field all together?

End of year 17; no changes here. Only 4 people aren’t returning to my school. 2 teachers retired, one moved, and the 4th was a paraprofessional. We are transitioning from blackboard to Schoology which should be fun if we don’t go back in person to start the year.

Ya, I was fine with BB and knew it really well but it was becoming outdated and clunky. I’ve already transferred all my content over to Schoology but haven’t dug into the features yet. Our tech guy is pretty good about teaching us new stuff, so I’ll be learning virtually just like the students have been.

Just finished year 4. We are losing the first person off our middle school staff this year since I’ve started. Also this is my last year at our current school as we are moving into a brand new building the next year. I’m about ready to transition to high school but I like the idea of starting a brand new building

Our principal resigned in mid February. So it looks like they are shuffling the admin already in our district and our school is getting the most experienced of all the admin. So glad our old principal left and we’ve had to go through it with who we currently have.

Got an email from the head counselor that some of my students grades weren't aligned with the district calculated average. I go an check and only one of the students grades wasn't aligned. Yet they've listed 12 names
