look at this shit and laugh their so called plan to take back education *edit my favorite is "Implement the direct election of school principals by the parents, as the ultimate form of local control." like this won't go horribly wrong https://www.donaldjtrump.com/news/da7f3c42-76b5-42c0-9beb-475d649030ae#
My AP US History teacher was awesome. He'd give these 45 minute off the cuff monologues every single day about whatever chapter we were covering. No notes, no PowerPoint to reference. It was really impressive looking back. Occasionally, some of us made a game out of purposely derailing his lectures by asking a bunch of tangent questions, which was usually successful. He'd get so mad when the bell rang and he realized what we did, but then he would always give a proverbial tip of the cap and a "good job" as we were walking out.
My problem is my school has placed every junior in APUSH the past two years for accountability rating. It went exactly how you would expect. Also, instead of seeing them everyday, I’m only seeing my classes every other day.
Shitty. My naive ass thought "that sounds awesome" when I read your post. Fascinating subject with unlimited depth, pool of motivated and bright students, etc. Did not think about school rating fuckery.
- Last year they gave me the bottom 60 kids. - Principal also had this unrealistic goal of getting 70% of the juniors to a proficient score for just the state test. - He finally admitted defeat somewhere in March and changed the goal to trying to make sure all the juniors just get a passing score. - We finished at 51% proficiency rating for the class, down 1% from the previous year. - I didn’t even bother signing any of my students up for the AP Test. We haven’t had any student pass that exam since 2015 iirc.
Year 20 I have 4 sections of geography and 1 section of guided study. even after asking for 5 sections just to keep the class sizes down. nope. Gotta have those 2 kids in guided study so I can have the rest of my classes busting at the seams.
Year 23 in CO (27 overall) starts Thursday. Haven't checked in to my school email (and absolutely will not until Wednesday evening), so no idea what business admin wants me to know ahead of time. 100% ELD teacher this year, so I think I can pretty much define my own schedule, which should be nice. I can technically retire with a halfway decent pension in 2-3 years, but really need to make it to 30 for max benefit (and to get my youngest through college). This is the first year I have almost no excitement about the new year starting, so not totally sure I'll make it that far TBH. I've officially entered that "grumpy old teacher" phase I swore I'd never do.
16 years and running! Came down to my very last period of the day...when a student wrote "The New York Capital"
The most common wrong answer continues to be Eiffel Tower…ALWAYS spelled wrong. Eyefull Tower being the worst offender of all time.
This one really came down to the wire. I had 5 students who hadn’t turned in the quiz yet in my last period of the day…and 2 of them fucked it up. This streak started during Obama’s first year as President.
Insurance is getting gutted Parents are shit Kids are tough, factors of home environment and not giving a damn Caseload is getting inundated Bleak stuff right now
This is my lunch block this year. Filled with students who have all failed at least one state exam. With a few needing to pass 3 out of 4 state exams just to be eligible to graduate in May 2025
Got a Wisconsin school district of 6600 students that's going through it currently They've lost 400 teachers in only 3 1/2 years
There's some absolute rippers on threads.net they're all complaining about how parents email the teacher and the teacher abuses them publically on social media Or they do something like this
High of 30° tomorrow with a slight chance of snow. They’ll make us go or hold off until 7AM tomorrow.
Last resort when safety is threatened. Unfortunately, school staff (through no fault of their own) aren't properly trained on the pre and post handling of those methods.
Overheard in my class today after the first day of watching A Face in the Crowd…”I thought this was going to be cheeks because it’s B&W, but it’s low key gas.”
