49” racks can lead to the plates hitting the upright when racking and/or unracking, or the collars on the j-cups when doing the same.
Had my shoulder MRI Monday. Going to find out what the doc thinks. If he rec I get my rotator fixed again I'm going to prob pull the trigger and get it over with asap. :( Still going to steal as many towels as I can from LifeTime (allegedly)
Hit a surprise lifetime PR on squat at 545. Really hoping to hit 573+ at my next meet next year so we’re on the right path
Somehow did a 5x3 hex at 450 after a weekend of drinking and a hour of bike this morning. Sucked but going for a max next week and needed to feel some weight.
hensleya ever use this? https://www.repelbullies.com/products/barbell-strap If I have shoulder surgery again which is likely I'm going to be looking for every alternative to keep me active. Wheels used this when he blew his bicep iirc
Are there negative consequences to working out the same muscle groups multiple days in a row if you're not pushing yourself to the maximum in these exercises? Was always told to give your muscles time to rest and recover growing up, but have read some stuff recently that suggests that's not necessary if you're not pushing yourself to failure and aren't really sore the next day.
I haven’t used it but I hear good things from a couple people who have. Spud inc also sells some nifty tools that could help with that.
Depends on the muscle group, but for the most part that’s bro science. For example, if you have a quad focused session: squats, leg press, hack squat, leg extensions, etc. they’re going to take a second to recover. Delts, biceps, triceps, pecs, etc can handle way more volume and frequency.
I’ve always used the 40 percent rule with my patients. Basically, if you train 40% or higher of your maximal effort for a muscle group, there will be muscle break down, Wolff’s law, etc. You could train back to back days but it will probably less effective if muscles are in that breakdown state. Most of what you are asking will depend on intensity and volume.
Best advice for me as far as anything fitness wise; if you're progressing with what you're doing, keep doing that. If you're stalling, try something new. I've been a 5x a week lifter for a while and do a ton of cardio. Last couple months haven't been great, cut down to 3 days a week lifting plus an arm day(have never done arm days) and been a good month. See what I can get on deadlift next week, my good month may either be great or shit, kinda confident.
Managed to separate a couple ribs squatting two weeks ago. No idea how since it was opening work set at a relatively easy weight. After letting it heal for a bit started hitting more volume and less weight while not pushing it. Was just getting into a groove so this sucks.
Man some great lifting at USAPL Raw Nats over the past week. - Super close in the 93s, 105s, etc. - Bryce Lewis taking a year off and winning that super deep 105s was awesome - Biased, but David Woolson totaling 1,840 6 weeks after tearing an adductor - Mihaylia Reeves hitting a 540 squat, 369 bench, and a 440 deadlift as a 15 year old female is just amazing - wtf happened to Ray Williams? Dennis Cornelius out totaled him in the lower weight class - 700lb deadlifts are the new standard in the 163lb class - Jen Milican fighting back after a rough year and placing 2nd plenty more I’m missing, but damn
Said Ray Williams had a shoulder issue and wasn't real prepared. Thought Orhii would get a higher total than he did but still won easily. Wanted to go for a deadlift max today but slept 4 hours last night and in no form had the energy, got 5 doubles of a little 90% of 1RM pretty easily so whatever. Day wasn't a complete waste.
Ray also lost a bunch of weight. Russel needs to put the clout chasing aside and squat to depth in training. He was 1/3 on squats for depth.
Follow his shit on insta and watched his meet lifts, he's always kinda borderline but those first 2 squats were bad. Does have quite the ego but he's a beast so whatever for me
started a jts powerlifting program this week. right into some heavy stuff(for me). had to get my head right this evening.
yeah, the AI. i am not used to going by RPE, so that will take getting comfortable. i really like this type of work more than the powerbuilding.
I had concerns with RPE at first, but it actually became intuitive pretty quickly. I used to refer to the chart in the link below when I first got started, but eventually it became more natural. https://articles.reactivetrainingsystems.com/2015/11/29/beginning-rts/
I know some folks have had some mixed results on the AI, but it has worked well for me. I did 531 for years and finally did my first comp in Sept of last year. Halfway between then and my next meet 6 months later I switched over to AI, and my total went up by 30kg. This past Sept it jumped up an additional 22.5 kg, and I barely missed my last deadlift which would have added another 10kg. Let me know how it goes.
i was a little bummed at first when i didnt improve my strength numbers as much as i had hoped during powerbuilding. i added some quality muscle during those 5 months though. so that jts program really did it’s job. i am more interested in the strength at this point in time. thanks for the rpe link, will check it out.
Had the best session I’ve had in maybe a yea or more. No big PRs, but positioning and technique we’re on point and the weights felt like air. Comp Deadlift - 515x1 @8, 440 2x5 @7 Block pulls - 440 2x5 @6 Board Press - 335x1 @8, 3x5 @7 Belt squat for 3x10 I’ve got until Feb, but I’m expecting a huge PR total
Kieliszkowski tore his bicep and still did 7/10 stones and won an event with everyone besides Thor/Licis, such a beast.
That’s something like 660lbs at a minimum. No way I’d come out of that without changing the color of those pants
Huge multi ply powerlifting meet going on today on ESPN3. WPO Finals. Some strong, strong folks will be competing. Hopefully we don’t see some bullshit high squats and unlocked deadlifts get passed. Looking at you, Hoff
What kind of psycho came up with this. 90 deadlifts plus all that other shit in 9 minutes. Let's break our backs while getting a heart rate of 200+
Remember when 90% of the fitness industry said you shouldn't squat below parallel. Then they said you shouldn't hold at the bottom etc That was like 5 years ago.
Squats, Romanians, and lunges with no belt or sleeves today; gonna be in a wheelchair soon. Got nothing on the guy doing 18 types of curls with a Chosen tattoo on his forearm.
hensleya does Rogue have a sell on bars for this Matte Black Friday thing or do we know yet? For those who haven’t seen it and need gear
they will certainly have some bars on sale, and at the very least a part of the shipping deals. They stagger their releases so don’t expect to necessarily see all their deals on Nov. 1. They likely won’t have every bar on sale, but usually the Ohio power bar, etc... get some love. The best deals from rogue during BF are plates with hundo pricing. What bar are you looking at?
Any of y’all ever get into TRX stuff? I’m traveling through Asia for about 3 months and don’t want to lose everything I’ve put together this year. Inevitable I lose some, but looking to hedge as much as I can with some type of mobile workout.
Then I would go with the new Rep fitness EX. It’s my new favorite bar. It will be on sale I’m 99% sure.
No idea about a TRX but a slingshot and doing a ton of pushups is pretty solid for travel/not being able to get to a gym. Can do dips with it too if you can find a place to do dips.
Thanks I’ll take a look. If I can do abs, push ups and pull-ups every day with some lunges/wallsits could be alright
