Oh he’s ready. Give us a 227kg snatch and a 272.5kg C&J, baby! August 4th at 7:30pm Tokyo time I believe
My ankle is still fucked. Wanted a challenge today without lifting heavy, did 225x30 RDL. Going for CrossFit games next year
CJ tried 198 as well and didn’t get the clean. Insane leg strength and flexibility to do that jerk. The guy from Venezuela tried 199 right after that but failed as well. Was fun to watch except for CJ not doing well at all
My wife works at a crossfit gym and I don’t mind some of the coaches but this is one of the dumbest things they do to people. Forcing the crossfit games competitors to do. 1 rep max snatch as their 12th workout of the games. With a 20 sec clock so everyone is rushing especially if they miss it the first time. I watched most of the women's and there were multiple times where the girl missed the first and rushed the second and nearly dropped the bar on their neck. Warning: Elbow Dislocation. .
2 years ago they had something like 10 pec ruptures at one of their regionals because they did max ring dips, or some absurd number. I deal with a lot of patients (as a PT) in a sports clinic that do a bunch of CrossFit stuff and I love most everything about it. I will always have a problem doing super technical lifts (that are their own Olympic sports) under moderate to extreme loads of fatigue.
Not to mention the previous workout included DB Overhead squats and weighted jump rope. It was about an hour before the 1 rep snatch.
a 1rm, under time, while already fatigued is is a bad combo. at least give some time to catch their breath. hell i don’t like lifting heavy after a morning of yard work nowadays.
Never know when in life you might be called upon to attempt a timed 1 RM snatch while already massively fatigued. Unknown and unknowable, etc
Tough day for Mattie. Too many failed reps and it looked like the no rep on the 3rd snatch got to her. She failed first 2 lifts on C&J but pulled out a great lift on the 3rd rep, which was awesome to see
Brooke was like 35 lbs under her actual max at that point, I think she had picked up that elbow injury earlier in the day because she started wearing that sleeve and had no business still trying to compete at that point.
But they did some crackhead workouts at the games this year, there was an obscene amount of injury withdrawals and another handful of athletes that they kept commenting were continuing to compete through injuries.
There are so many benefits to strength training, obviously. I like adding in the cardiovascular component and doing simpler things repetitively. I think that is great at its core. But cmon, CrossFit isn’t for everyone, which is how they market it. Last on-ramp class I was in there was a super overweight 55 year old dude that had to scale everything so much it eventually feels unsafe. Like, is it really beneficial to need 4 bands to do an assisted pull up? Oh yeah, now go teach that guy how to clean without having him just do a reverse curl. Never going to happen. Have that dude get into the gym on a regular machine based strength training program with some cardio a few times a week for awhile and then maybe he could progress safely to a mild boot camp style work out. CrossFit is so far from his radar that he shouldn’t even consider it. Naturally, that guy had a terrible experience the first day, was embarrassed about how much help he needed, and never returned. getting off my soapbox now.
It’s really annoying how much he tries to make the games about how zany a programmer he is. That darn Castro making them do the ranch loop back in reverse, what’ll this trickster come up with next! Oh man it’s a burpee over a hay bale with a cheese curd! So Midwest!
And the free standing hand stand push-ups that about half the field couldn’t even do. What’s the point
The caps/movements being so aggressive that half the field can’t even do them is awful. Programming a bunch of shit no affiliate will be able to replicate for a class is awful. Was not a fan at all of the programming for this year.
The cheese curd was 1 I watched, was hoping Tia finished in 1 round which she nearly did. I hate the whole saying “fittest on earth” nonsense but that woman is an absolute badass. Also nice to see Annie Thorisdottir get 3rd
Martirosyan getting silver to prevent all the men’s favorites from going chalk Looked great in a training hall 240 c&j but only got 228 today
Anyone use a meal prep service that they like. I need to get on a schedule again eating properly. My work schedule is a disaster with no slowing down in sight.
I’m just trying to watch Lasha lift absurd amounts of weight but I don’t think weightlifting is on any of the cable channels Fuck NBC
Imagine being so good you're beating the competition by a hilarious amount and just leaving a bunch in the tank so you can set a new world record every time you go to a competition
maybe it's the angle these were filmed at, because it's usually a 3/4 angle on his gram, but that's one of the few times i have seen any body twisting. lasha is unreal. cannot be said enough.
I tried Fresh n Fit Cuisine which might just be an Atlanta thing. It was fine but nothing special. None of the meals were like “oh damn this is good.” They were just like here’s a bunch of turkey breast/pork, some soggy vegetables, and a small amount of a mashed root starch.
I get that. I did Trifecta. It was ok. I'd like to try something different but I assume the taste will be the same. I just need structure. My work life is a disaster and I can't control myself.
