Figure we might as well get a new one started post-WC. Friendlies lined up: 10/9 vs. Poland @ Soldier Field - Chicago 10/12 vs. Colombia @ PPL Park - Philadelphia Rumors of another friendly in November, and apparently we'll play Argentina in March.
Re: USMNT Thread shame that maradona is no longer the "we wish we were brazil" coach, and must beat colombia (deal with it andres) snow, think you can throw out a predicted lineup against poland?
Re: USMNT Thread We'll just have to wait and see who's called in for those two friendlies, Euro based players can come in if they want since it's they're UEFA dates date. MLS doesn't take those days off and that's the stretch run for the playoffs, so some teams might not let some players go. Definitely would love to see a central MF of: Holden Jones - Bradley I don't think Houston will be in the playoff run, so I'd like to see Geoff Cameron called in now that he's back from injury. The Galaxy's schedule could allow for Landon, Buddle, and Gonzalez to be called into camp.
Re: USMNT Thread do like i've been pretty impressed with holden, been meaning to catch more of jones and he stays healthy and haven't followed bradley that much on the club level
Re: USMNT Thread I imagine KC will get a game once the Wizards new stadium is complete, potentially even a WCQ.
Re: USMNT Thread USMNT doesn't like to come so far south that often. I would definitely go to a game in Atlanta, hoping for Tampa this time around.
Re: USMNT Thread Yeah I really wish Atlanta would get a game, but the fact that the Dome has artificial turf and it being indoors definitely hurts. The last two club friendlies had a good atmosphere and good crowds. I really wish Dekalb County didn't have their heads up their asses and decided to make the old GM plant into a retractable roof stadium, but no they want to build a mixed use development of offices, homes, retail etc. when the market is complete shit right now. /rant Anyways, the two scheduled games look to be decent opponents and hopefully Bob decides to bring in some new faces and not guys like Conor Casey and Robbie Findley.
Re: USMNT Thread Gold Cup is June 5-25, the only location announced so far is that the final will be played at the Rose Bowl. Also, a fucking disgrace CONCACAF WCQ is becoming for 2014, from SBI:
Re: USMNT Thread This will be interesting to follow. Miguel Ponce is now the starting LB for Chivas Guadalajara, was born in Sacramento but raised in TJ. He's just recently become a starter so it isn't a surprise yet he hasn't been contacted by USSF, but I imagine he will be soon.
Re: USMNT Thread I'm starting to think Klinsmann's a little full of shit. I think the USSF would have no problem with him naming his own staff, but Klinsmann seems more to me that he would want to be technical director as opposed to HC. Sure, the youth system needs changing but it is moving in the right direction with the USSDA and the MLS youth academies and soon to be residency programs. It's such a new concept to American sports, that it's something that can't be done over night. Plus, MLS teams had to be financially feasible before they started looking into youth academies. I would've preferred Klinsmann or many coaches over Bradley because there's better options and I think 4 years is long enough for a majority of coaches. Even though Bradley has been very frustrating at times (Findley and Clark) and we could've done better, we've had our best cycle ever under him: '07 Gold Cup Champs '09 Confederations Cup finalists 1st place in CONCACAF WCQ 1st place in our WC group
Re: USMNT Thread I think what happened was Klinsmann wanted all the power, and Gunil was not ready to do that with how much control he has been able to exert over Bradley and the other previous coaches.
Re: USMNT Thread Hope Lichaj gets some run. It will be interesting to see how the Bradley/Edu/Jones situation works itself out.
Re: USMNT Thread Brek Shea is an interesting call up, doubt he gets any time though curious to see what they do with Holden
Re: USMNT Thread christmas tree 4-3-2-1 with jones/holden/edu? someone i followed on twitter suggested that (but i cant find who it was, so useless comment)
Re: USMNT Thread Would've liked to have seen Geoff Cameron called in since Houston isn't in the MLS playoff chase, Bradley must not think he's fully 100% yet though. Cherundolo and Boca are playing very well right now for their clubs, it's just too bad they'll both be 35 come 2014. So I think they'll definitely be part of the Gold Cup squad, but after that it'll be time to start getting new guys incorporated in and hopefully it's Lichaj at RB. Would be cool for Lichaj's first cap to be against Poland in Chicago since he's of Polish ancestry and from Chicago. LB is a crap shoot with Bornstein, Pearce, Spector can play there but he hasn't been good for WHU, and hopefully we can get Miguel Ponce to choose the U.S. Pearce particularly is an enigma, Danish league defensive player of the year a few years back, moved to a then Bundesliga team (Hansa Rostock), fell out of favor. Then was about to make a move to Bursapor, who won the Turkish league title last year but paperwork got f'd up, and he's played well at FC Dallas, though as a RB.
Re: USMNT Thread Even though I really don't like him all that much, I usually say go with Spector b/c of all the EPL experience he has.
Re: USMNT Thread If you go to www.ussoccer.com and watch Studio 90, you'll hear Jermaine Jones speak in English. He also spent his infant years in Chicago before his parents divorced and moved with his mother back to Germany.
The roster for the friendly should be announced within the next day or so, it won't consist of any regular starters in Europe, Mexico, and teams still in the MLS playoffs. Norway and Sweden's leagues just ended so we'll likely see Bedoya, Goodson (doesn't go to Denmark until 1/1), and hopefully Diskerud.
Mikkel "Mix" Diskerud and his hair have been chosen for the South Africa friendly for his first ever cap. http://translate.google.com/translate?js=n&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&layout=2&eotf=1&sl=no&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.vg.no%2Fsport%2Ffotball%2Fartikkel.php%3Fartid%3D10010884
I wish the Argentina game was in S.Fla you would fill up Sun Life (Dolphin Stadium) no problem and the atmosphere would be amazing. I would definitely go to it and root against the fags.
Just released GK Dominic Cervi - Celtic Brad Guzan - Aston Villa Defenders Gale Agbossoumonde - Estoril Praia (until the winter transfer period) Nat Borchers - RSL Jonathan Bornstein - Tigres Clarence Goodson - Brondby Eric Lichaj - Aston Villa Tim Ream - New York Red Bulls Jonathan Spector - West Ham Midfielders Alejandro Bedoya - Orebro Brian Carroll - Columbus Mix Diskerud - Stabaek Eddie Gaven - Columbus Logan Pause - Chicago Robbie Rogers - Columbus Forwards Juan Agudelo - New York Red Bulls Teal Bunbury - Kansas City (lol sorry Canada) Robbie Findley - RSL (but a FA)
Just noticed Findley on the list Glad a guy who pretty much lost his MLS starting spot is still getting called up
Our forward pool is still but love the fact that BB called in Agudelo and Bunbury, wouldn't have minded seeing Tony Taylor though. Not sure all that goes behind the scenes with clubs but surprised Onyewu and Ricardo Clark aren't there as guys that aren't getting 1st team minutes in Europe. Definitely would prefer Clark and say Kyle Beckerman over Carroll and Pause.
Good prospect, I see his potential ceiling as maybe a 2nd tier Euro league type guy. He's played for Canadian YNT's and his father played for the Canadian NT, but glad he chose us, good chance at being on the Olympic team. Despite our forward pool now, we have a plethora of talented forwards in that 17-21 age bracket (Jozy included).
Another guy I wish would have got a call up is Najar. Maybe he is not sure if he wants to play for the US yet?
Najar isn't a citizen yet, and he rejected an invite to play a friendly for Honduras. There was a news article a few days ago where Najar's father suggests the U.S. has the lead right now. Question is how long it'll take to get citizenship? Mwanga is looking at 2012 to get his, but Congo isn't as big of a threat as compared to Honduras. Hopefully BB made a call to Michael Hoyos. If Hoyos rejected, we just have to for now.
