I took a long break and am now watching S2E06. Couple of general questions: 1. Are the damane bad? I can't tell. I get mixed signals. Egwene doesn't seem to keen on them though. 2. Who are the chicks walking around with pacifiers in their mouths? 3. What is the a'dam?
A damane is a woman who is able to channel the source and has been enslaved by the seanchan. The sul’dam is their master and the a’dam is the magical chain that enslaves them. It’s very fucking bad to be a damane but they aren’t inherently bad as they are slaves.
They are the ones telling the ones with the pacifiers what to do. The ones with the pacifiers are damane
Do they have the pacifiers in the books? I thought it was just the way they decided to make them look, but to me it looks like it could serve some sort of leashing purpose.
It’s been 10+ years since I read the books but I don’t think they did. Someone else can likely answer for certain.
Ok I lied about it being the last question.... Was the girl controlling her once a damane? Basically, do the damane start as damane and then graduate to sul'dam if they do well?
No. Never. Damane are slaves and remain Damane until they die. There’s more but I’m not sure how far you are and the rest comes up later in the season.
To add to Blackfish, They were not Damane, they view Damane/Channelers as animals. I would watch the rest of the season and then ask more questions as they reveal some things I think and don’t want to spoil.
As I recall, in Seanchan all girls are tested at a certain age. Those who have the “spark” have the natural ability to channel and are taken into custody as slaves and trained to be Damane. Remember in the earlier episode when the one Damane pointed out 2 or 3 village girls who were then taken away by soldiers? As she walked through the gathered villagers she tested every girl. Those she pointed to had the “spark” and were taken away to be Damane. Edit: if anyone considers this post to be a Spoiler, let me know. IMO, it doesn’t give anything away in the following episodes, but I could be wrong about this.
Not a spoiler at all imo. Thanks for this. I'd forgotten about the village girls being taken away scene.
So the fingernail chick and the other two are the three *whatevers* that moraine mentioned were the three most powerful, can wreck anyone and take away their powers, people right?
Tried to google the forsaken to see if that’s who I meant and I think I got spoiled… Spoiler lady with the quagmire jaw is a forsaken and is actually a villain and not a “good” guy trying to help teach chanelers??? but Moraine definitely said there were 3 of these all-powerful people and Wheel Wiki sounds like there’s a lot of forsaken. I assumed by the presentation in the show that the 3 big bads were potentially the three people sitting atop the tank-sized moving throne commanding the pacifier chicks. One was the middle eastern looking guy from the Season 1 Finale. Another was some chick with stupid long fingernails she clicks together as “commands” and I didn’t see the third person atop that throne/platform.
no, lady in red.. with jaw that reminds me of the dude from Tango and Cash is Liandrin, who I guess has turned into the Black Ajah. In a way she's forsaken...in the sense she's an Aes Sedai who has forsaken her 3 oaths in order to serve the Dark One (presumably to save her son). I'm assuming she didn't become an Aes Sedai who was already in league with the dark one...more like Anakin turning to the dark side of the force after he became a Jedi
after re-reading your post...I think there's The Dark One under him is the forsaken, his lieutenants, (no idea how many 7? 9?) including Ishamael and Lanfear under Ishamael you had various parties including Liandrin (the traitor Aes-Sedai w. the jaw) the traveling merchant who knows Mat, and the finger nail chick who's Seanchan... I don't know who if anyone can really strip powers aside from probably the Dark One, what happened to Moraine was something different I could also be completely off on this too
There are 13 Forsaken in the books, Think they mentioned a few more in the last episode. So maybe 8 in total for the show. It goes Dark One Forsaken, all with different levels of power. Ishmael being the strongest. Then you have Fades/Myrddraal who control the Trollocs Then Darkfriends like Black Ajah/Liandrin and Padan Fain
Bros yall are doing pretty bad at asking questions in here. I didn't read the books and it was pretty easy to tell how the slaves and their masters situation worked and lol at the long fingernail chick being a forsaken.
Finished season 2 last night and it was freaking awesome. I wish there were more seasons to watch. I think the CGI got better too. It was really well done. Super impressed with season 2.
The 3 people atop the moving throne were Ishamael (a Foresaken), the High Lady Suroth (Seanchean noblewoman), and Alwhin (she was Suroth’s Voice. Seanchan nobility only rarely speak to anyone below them, so a proxy Voice is utilized).
To be fair I asked about the fingernail chick after watching the initial episode she was in. Finished the season last night and it’s real obvious now she’s not powerful at all… and holy fuck at that forehead with no eyebrows she was hard to look at. finale was spicy. This season was quality fantasy TV. hoping somehow this quality bleeds over into Rings of Power via Amazon studios or whatever.
Tbh if I was Rand I’d work out a deal with Baefear to join the dark side (or just “her side” if shes really got a neutral option) but also keep his friends safe. I feel like Renna was maybe the worst actor/actress on the show to date. Worse than original Matt. Worse than season 1 Rand. She reminded me of the black chick inquisitor from ObiWan style of delivery. Only complaint about the season for me.
In the books Suroth is very powerful politically. Based on the time spent on her in S2 I will guess that she will be important going forward. But that’s only a guess.
echoing what others have said I never read the books and wasn’t too impressed with Season 1. We only watched season 2 because we were sort of out of stuff to watch and just finished it tonight. holy shit that was incredible, especially the second half of the season. I’m in love with 5-6 women on this show but I’d destroy the world for Lanfear
Also for those like me who haven’t read the books the Collider episode recaps and adjacent articles are clutch https://collider.com/wheel-of-time-season-2-aiel/
Trailer looks pretty good. 2nd season was def an improvement over the 1st so hopefully they keep that momentum going.
I feel like I need to rewatch both seasons to fully grasp what has taken place. They tossed a lot at viewers so far.
Season 1 wasn't crazy packed with important stuff. Basically just the main characters discovering their powers and then meeting the big bad / figuring out who was "the chosen one" Season 2 I'm definitely gonna rewatch because there was a lot of movement in everyone's storylines and it was just a good fantasy season of TV in general.
Rewatched S2 last month. Definitely excited for this. Kinda curious where they go now that they all went through their "growing into a hero" phase last season and the band is back together again. Hopefully Perrin finds a new wolfbro
