Didn't get through all the wines we had planned last night but the '14 Maison Leroy Bourgogne Blanc was the highlight of the evening. LeroyBB.jpg

In the middle of a pack from hell before moving out in a few weeks. I'm pretty surprised it doesn't look worse tbh

I received a No Girls allocation this year. Would you recommend snagging it?

Thanks. I will give my 2012 tribe a shot soon to decide whether I want to continue.

Yes. I think the Syrah is really good. The Grenache I’m less enamored with. The Tempranillo is good but I dropped that from my allocations as I got added to other lists and had to prioritize.

It is a bigger, more ripe style than I usually drink but not a bad pairing with steak frites. D6F9D49E-CBA3-4EAB-B51D-25D9530EC15C.jpeg

Aubert SVD chardonnay allocation was not kind to my wallet, but I’m very excited.

Yeah, I've had No Girls, Horsepower and Saxum in the last week. It definitely adds up.

So I've been re-evaluating what mailing lists I want to be on since we're moving back to NYC and while we've been able to avoid most shipping fees with winery pick ups, that will obviously no longer be the case. What I've got left is below. Leaning towards jumping off of Turley and Riverain.

    Arnot-Roberts
    Sandlands
    Turley
    Hiyu Farm
    The Mascot
    Rhys
    Domaine de la Côte
    Walter Scott
    Combe
    Riverain

With a win over Michigan I feel like opening something nice tonight so I’m decanting this.

It is a relatively newly planted vineyard (2016 is the first vintage) running up against the Continuum side of the property.

Ken Wright Cellars Pinot is right around $25

Less than that I like Klee

Otherwise I look for random cheap Bordeaux

Bordeaux and malbecs are my go to on cheap good wine. Also drink a lot of Conundrum.

Nebiolo is my cheap table wine when not drinking Pinot. I have a lot of Pinot options, just not sure how many make it out of the region.

Wagner Family has a lot of inexpensive good wines that are easy to find. Sea and Sun (Pinot) and Bonanza (Cab) are both solid and around $20. Like others have said, you can get a lot of great old world wines for that price range, too.

If you can get Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc in that price range, do it. It's normally ~$30 though.

As mentioned previously - I don't pretend to be a wine expert.

The 89 Rothschild is one of my favorite Bordeaux blends I've had though - my friend bought a few cases of it so that is definitely to my benefit.

Here's the opinion of someone that actually knows what they're talking about:

    98 points James Suckling

[IMG] Freshly picked blackberries turn into minty dark chocolate and oozing caramel with domineering eucalyptus on the nose. It becomes yet more complex on the palate thanks to layers upon layers of spices and sage plus fat and rounded tannins. There's a long finish with a bitter aftertaste, suggesting this could do with another 10 years or more of bottle aging. This is a Mouton I found massive at the time, then elegant and slightly austere years later, but today true to its former glory. Like the amazing 1947, it should not be forgotten. Honestly, I budgeted about $400 for Berserker Day and I don't think I'll be buying anything. Nothing really blew me away offer wise...even Flannery Beef's offer was meh.

I am up to 1.5 cases. Avg price at about $16 so picking and choosing. Less "great" deals than previous years but way more winery participants so I assume most are hurting but not enough to go crazy.

Added a case of Di Constanzo and 6 of Saunter. Deals weren't as good this year but it's nice to support some of the smaller guys who had a rough year.
