Telluride last year was pretty sad. Tarantino and the crew were out there filming the Hateful 8 and were getting no snow. Apparently the week after we left they got dumped on for two weeks and were able to wrap up filming.
I have the Salomon XMAX 120. It skis a little softer than a true 120 but it is a good boot for my foot. I have a terribly wide front foot through toe box and a bone spur on the top of my right foot. My right foot is also considerably wider than my left but both are wide. Anyway, the whole boot goes in the oven- feels great after two bakes. I am on my third season with them. I literally tried on 50+ boots before getting these. Wish that the 130's were at a local shop but oh well. I want to check out the Quest Max 130's for a touring boot. Blah, blah- check out Salomons with the 360 shell. East Coast winter is sucking dicks right now, bros. Went to the Riv the other day and it is so sad. Massholes all over the place. We need snow. Going to be in the 60's tomorrow down here in coastal Maine. Beat. Pray for us.
Your user name gets an A+, especially in this thread. Was always a must watch movie the night before opening day during college.
Agreed. Intuition Liners make a HUGE difference. If your boot is comparable with these liners, I highly recommend them.
That has been our experience for the last 3 years on the best coast. BUT, things look a little better. Weather is still fucked, though.
Leaving Sunday for 2 weeks at Whistler. Considering how bad it's been the past few years, I'm really looking forward to some decent skiing this year.
Just purchased my 26.5 Full Tilt Classics. Should be here this week. Can't wait to try them out on all this new snow we're getting.
Looking at heading out to Denver for my bachelor party and going to the first couple rounds on the NCAA tourney. Buddies and I are trying to see if we can schedule a couple days of skiing into the schedule. Any recommendations on places to go? Trying to not travel too far for it and was looking at the Copper Mtn./Breckenridge area, but will travel further if worth it. What say you? I'm not sure what the conditions will be like as it will be mid/late march. TIA
Mid-Late March will be great conditions. Do you know if the days you plan on going are weekend or week days? There are plenty of options w/in the Copper/Breck distance from Denver so no need to go much further. Vail, Breck, Copper, Keystone, Arapaho Basin, Winter Park are all options. Vail, Breck, A Basin, and Keystone all are under the Epic Pass and will be the busiest. Winter Park and Copper are under the same season pass and will be less busy.
The dates are still up in the air, it'll depend on when everyone can get out there, how much people are willing to spend and what everyone prefers to do. The tourney games are Thurs. and Sat. so I was thinking if we could either get out there Tuesday night, we could ski Wed. to Fri. then head back into Denver Friday night and go to the games on Saturday or fly in Wed night/Thurs. morning, do the games Thursday and ski Fri. and Sat.
Didn't make it last year, but heading for a day at Engelberg in the Swiss alps Friday. Pretty excited.
Will be making a couple more trips up to Meadows next weekend. This coming weekend I'm in Florida. Ewww.
Went skiing in park city over new years. First time skiing out in Utah, have just been to different places in colorado before. Couple pictures I took on my phone. Spoiler
People that would know... Has anyone ever gone to Mammoth in late April/early May? How was it? I have a free week but I am afraid to plan so early.
I'm heading back from a three day trip to Big White and two at Revelstoke right now. I do Big White every year. It's easily the best place for the money right now. The exchange rate is so awesome and BW is pretty cheap as it is. This was my first time at Revvy. Pretty fantastic place. Been hiking up there a few times, but this was my first time on the hill.
Depends on the weather like the other poster said, but during a good year Mammoth can have awesome spring skiing until July 4th- haven't had any of those years recently. Late April is pretty much the end of our skiing adventures, I wouldn't plan a trip for May- did that once to Tahoe and it was a big bust. I would totes ski a day with you, though.
My dad was a ski patrolman at A-Basin after finishing undergrad. Still the highest base elevation in the N America, I believe.
AA Water Polo player at DU. And yeah, he was a great skier in his time. 69 years old now and still keeps right up with me. My younger brother made US Juniors, though, and destroys both of us on the hill.
Feel like I've hit a ceiling on skis for whatever reason. Taught myself so maybe I should take an advanced lesson or something.
Lifting weights lower body makes a big difference. I played soccer growing up, so I've always had pretty powerful legs to churn through this wet snow we get in the PNW, but being strong in your core/lower body really helps with balance and technique.
My cousin in Bend just sent me this pic of a bench he made out of old skis, thought it was pretty cool
That would be correct. Was pretty decent today. Off and on snow. Supposed to get a nice dumping tonight and into tomorrow so could be headed back out first thing in the morning. May do Keystone though
So, finishing up my Tahoe trip today... Went to Alpine and Northstar for the first time... Northstar really blew me away, it's a bad ass resort and Alpine is also amazing. Of the major resorts I've visited now in my life. Heavenly Northstar Mammoth Alpine Squaw I love them all.
Gotta post my pics from Corbet's Couloir last weekend... Shit was intense. (Didn't do it, only looked down and said fuck that)
Even if I could do something like that someday, I like to think I have the willpower not to. No matter how good you are, one freak bump and you sever your leg on the edge immediately and bleed to death in front of a crowd of people that are helpless.
I plan to head up to red mountain in BC this month. Have been hitting a bunch of the smaller ones near me in idaho and eastern washington building my skills up and getting used to my skis. PNW skiing is a bit tougher than the Midwestern skiing I grew up on I want to go to banff/lake louise but its cold as fuck right now, might cap the season off going up there in april
Here my pics from Corbet's.... And a video of people hitting it... By the way, these conditions aren't even close to that shit I saw. What they are doing at the beginning was not even close to an option. It was a fucking straight drop for about 25 feet where you're just essentially free falling.
