I normally ski in Tahoe and got out to Banff one time, felt those ratings were a bit more aggressive than California. Maybe it's just Canada?
Going to Heavenly and Kirkwood over 4 days while staying in South Lake Tahoe.. can't wait for it. Which resorts have you been to this season.
My pass is for Squaw/Alpine so most of my time is there. Was at Sierra last Friday as I get a couple days there with my pass. Kirkwood is great, just not the easiest to get to from the Bay Area for day trips.
Daughter voted Sundance Parkcity and Snowbird. Sundance is the automatic cause I have free passes from my boss.
Skied both Park city and Solitude in december. Would take Solitude over PC just due to amount of more snow cottonwood canyon gets. Both are fun resorts.
Alright, we are thinking of a change. Still doing Sundance cause I got free passes, Park City cause she wants to make her brother most Jealous, but thinking of changing to Brighton on recommendation over Snowbird. Please voice your opinions.
How does skiing at Park City make the brother jealous? Don't skip Snowbird for Brighton. Drop PC and ski Brighton/Snowbird/Sundance.
Going skiing next week and wanted to pick up one of those camelbacks to carry my drinks on the mountain with me? Anyone got an Amazon recommendation for me?
Be sure to get one with an insulated hose if you plan to keep the hose outside your jacket. Otherwise water will freeze in the hose and it will be useless. Edit: after a quick glance at the Camelbak website, look at the Bootlegger, Zoid or Scorpion. That's assuming you want something small and not more of a backpack that happens to have a bladder.
I edited my above post with a few recommendations. That's one of the ones I found. Also, take a glance at the Bootlegger and the Scorpion
Yea. I want something small. Probably going to go with the scorpion. Slightly bigger so I can carry a battery backup for my phone and a couple other things as needed
Her older brother has in his head that's the Mecca of snowboarding so she wants to go before him. Snowbird over Brighton?
Yeah, super shitty how the storm came in. And now we have rain. Truckee is handing out free sand bags. Hopefully it'll clear up by this weekend. Picked a good week to go out of town.
Got back from breck mon night Climbed to the top of peak 6 to do the double blacks down, immediately regretted that decision. Couldn't catch my breath all the way up there and those double blacks were no joke Downtown area was packed with any place to eat being a 45 min wait but I did get to watch UK/UF at Jakes dive bar which was more of my scene Man Colorado is something else with all that weed. Going down the slopes just constantly skiing passed people having a nice doobee break
I regularly share joints with people on lifts. Well, usually they are the ones offering so I make out like a bandit
190 and 135 MPH winds over the pass the last two days. Shits been shut down. Plus it's Ski/Skate Week here. Gonna be a shit show. All the out of towners completely shut my town down the last few days. Took me 45 min to drive across the street...
Heading to breck tomorrow for 3 ski days. Never skied that mountain, but it looks like there are some areas I can enjoy Suggestions? Big fan of gladed runs and looooong fast blues
Three days at Heavenly last week. Like everything else in California/Nevada, currently just buried in snow. If you're going to Tahoe, I would recommend the other resorts over Heavenly. It is probably #4 in Tahoe compared to Northstar, Kirkwood, Alpine, and Squaw. It has the best views, but I have come to really like the other resorts more over the years. Can't recommend Northstar enough, I think it has become my favorite place. Avoid weekends in Tahoe right now if you can.
Peak 7 is filled with a bunch of blue runs with rolling hills. Can be fast and a lot of fun. Peak 6 can be fun too. Exposed at the top so it feels very open, but there are some well spaced glades as you head down and a fun little bowl/wall you can catwalk out to. Expect Peak 8 and 9 to be a minefield of jerrys on most blue runs. Plus those base areas tend to have the longest lift lines as the day progresses. Peak 10 if you're wanting a challenge or feeling extreme (all single and double blacks)
Jerry: "An individual who exhibits a true lack of understanding for their sport, or for life in general" AKA a "gaper." Or better said, some goddamn out of towners in way over their heads and just clueless as to mountain etiquette or general skiing or snowboarding techniques. They are the most dangerous things on the mountain.
yeah looked like I would be spending a lot of time on 10 for sure. I'll try and avoid 8 and 9 as much as possible
Problem with Breck is its layout. If you are on 10 and want to go elsewhere 8 and 9 are unavoidable. It's go up, traverse down sideways, go up, traverse down sideways, go up, traverse down sideways.
Looks like I'll finally get in a day next week, I'll mix it up and go to Squaw this time. Alpine doesn't have the ski I want to demo anyway.
What ski you trying to demo? I may be able to help you out. And Alpine is fine, just being selfish and trying to keep everyone away from my baby.
God, maximum send is incredible. We always say "Send it" and those people in the video took it to the next level. Favorite moment is the first few seconds with the guys going through the terrain park and then sending it 35ft. too far on the little kicker.
I assumed you were doing that and 100% support the effort. I took out a Brahma last time at Alpine that I liked. I'm thinking the Vantage 90 this time, it was in the demo shop at Alpine. Possibly the Volkl Kendo as well. Ideally I'm going to buy something in that 85-90 waist at the end of the season and get rid of my starter skis.
Ski instructor at NS saw me on them and was asking me what I thought because he had a pair at home waiting to be mounted. He then told me I was the best skier he had ever seen and we ran train on one of the Australian girls working the cafeteria checkout. Things are different on the mountain.
Gotcha, I don't think I have any Volkl or Blizzard hook ups. I'm riding a Blizzard Bonified 180 sitting 98 underfoot. Great skis, but I'd like them a little longer. Can't go wrong with Blizzard, though. If you're interested in demoing Elan, Scott, Marker, or Nordica, lemme know. I can hook up Burton, too.
I was 173 with my Brahmas, could probably do 180 on those. I will remember to let you know when I want to get a day with the Enforcer 93, thanks for the offer!
I can't imagine there are many better all mountain skis out there. They did well in shitty powder in Mammoth and pretty much kill the groomers, didn't see anyone I couldn't keep up with as long as maximum send was in my thoughts.
Kirkwood was absolutely prime yesterday. Knee deep powder on most runs and short lift lines. Enough challenging terrain to have a lot of fun. Heavenly was pretty good today. I'm not a fan of how commercialized it is but I expected it. Having to take a gondola down was kinda annoying.
Annoyed at how much Tahoe and Utah have been getting pounded and Colorado is getting crumbs. About to have a week off in between jobs next week so need some real powder
