I doubt he enjoyed that aspect of Oregon. The guy appreciates anonymity. He wants to do his job and go home and not deal with outside bullshit. Honestly I can’t think of a program that would provide that more than UCLA. Who the fuck’s gonna care about Chip Kelly when you’re looking for actual celebrities? And the proportion of people out there who give a shit about cfb is minuscule.

I’d want Mullen if I were you guys. Seems like a much more reliable candidate even if it isn’t as sexy.
Chip also wants to win a NC after coming close at Oregon with inferior talent. While he’s not going to anytime soon at either, no doubt that his chances are better at doing that eventually at Florida.
Another thing people must consider are Chip’s private social preferences, which isnt really public knowledge. He loves hunting and being around trees. He is not a beach guy. Although he does love movies and restaurants, so he has a tough decision on his hands.
The man has coached in Gainesville, he’s proven to be a successful coach in a tougher position within the sec, and he’s proven he will stick around for the long run. Chip Kelly is gonna get some big headlines and expectations for Florida, but I’m not sure if it’s as much of a sure thing. He might not like it there, he might get frustrated if his offense isn’t working as well, he might not build a defense that can keep him competitive, etc. I just think the upside is higher with Chip Kelly, but the more sure thing would be Mullen.
If he wants a better chance at a championship he’s better off going to UCLA, in the SEC he will have to deal with Saban, Saban on steroids (Kirby), whoever LSU hires next, Jimbo Fisher and that’s just in the SEC. He still has to contend against FSU and Miami on the field and on the recruiting trail.
When it comes to taking the easier road, UCLA is easier, no doubt. I was talking about the whole package.
Florida will provide more resources and a greater commitment to winning, but from what I read he has no chance of ever winning against Kirby Smart, that’s what some people are saying.
UCLA is a basketball commuter school and the athletic department is ran by LaVar Ball, these are facts don’t bother trying to debate on this.
This is a weird take. I don’t know how anyone in their right mind could make an argument that Mullen is a better coach or safer pick than Chip. Isn’t there a reason he has been passed up for every halfway major opening the past 3 years?
He’s a hell of a coach who is the best coach in the history of a school without much of one. He’s also an asshole who interviews poorly which has hindered him leaving Starkville. Thing is Stricklin already knows him so there wouldn’t be a bad interview.
