Right, Strand I believe says "looks like we're going back to the valley beyond" after Hale has Bernard repeat the location. While the hosts have been talking about it quite a bit, we didn't really know that we'd already been there (back in episode 1). Sector 16 on the map is where the hosts were drowned/floating in the water and the location Bernard gave was sector 16, zone 4. Spoiler: the map
If you go to this site and choose restore from backup A, it will begin a conversation with Ford. There are a lot of options and paths so I haven't had time to see the end result of all, but at the very least there is some interesting info. https://www.delosdestinations.com/intranet/#
that first 30 minutes pissed me off i don’t have room in my brain for ghost nation back stories i’m glad i stuck it through, because that last half was a fantastic way to tie it all together
that was drawn out af, heart shaped box was cool, that was drawn out af 6/10, would bang again also episode inspired me to listen to Nirvana videos ever since
I think a common complaint this season is drawn out/ fluff episodes. But I've honestly enjoyed it all.
I loved it as well. Thought it was great storytelling. Could it have been earlier in the season, maybe.
You don’t cast freaking Hanzee if you’re not going to devote real screen time to him. I thought that was a great episode. If anything, it illustrates that the host don’t require meddling to become “awake.”
I wanted more character development this season so I enjoyed the episode. If you're wanting more puzzle solving like episodes then you didn't like it.
This has not been as good as season 1 because of some shitty writing but it's still good television. My one gripe with last nights episode is that it felt more like a season 2 episode 3 type episode as opposed to episode 8.
He's going to be a main character and it turns out he was a pivotal player in the park's history. He might be a Delores level main character. He deserved and needed a backstory.
thought this was a really strong episode. phenomenal acting and really would be great if Ake became a big part of the show moving forward. Really thought it was a fun and interesting way to show another path that a host could gain consciousness. Ake seemed to gain it free from any human intervention and really was cool to see it play out. I thought it was a great world building episode and could be very important moving forward. Its a bit refreshing to get the perspective of another awake host, one that isnt hell bent on killing or anything. Feel like I may be more invested in his personal story than I am in Dolores' at this pint
In the robot power rankings, Dolores has plummeted. Her character is one-note and is not enjoyable. Her scenes are my least favorite. I'm hoping it was done on purpose.
I feel the same way. at this point I am still willing to give it the benefit of the doubt as I think this has a big payoff here at the end of this season. after last weeks episode it really feels like Ford had a bigger hand in things that we initially may have thought
Would not be surprised if Delores is just running a narrative and Ake and Maeve are the only ones that are off the grid right now.
I'm hoping this is the case. Delores does things like tell Maeve everyone gets to make their own choice but then she turns Teddy into an one man army against his will and slaughters the confederados for no reason. I don't know if this is shit writing or they're doing it on purpose with a big payoff.
I'm thinking we may see Akecheta and Dolores aka Deathbringer end up crossing paths in the valley beyond. I hope Dolores doesn't just wipe them out since we did see the footage from a Ghost nation host of her killing him near the valley beyond. Ake's story adds another level of intrigue to what happened in the valley beyond.
I believe Maeve points this situation out to Delores when she’s laying on the gurney in last week’s episode (not last night’s).
It is whatever is significant about "the valley beyond." Some kind of secret facility. Whether it's the "door" that Ake and the people he's gathering can use to leave the park or it's the "weapon" that Dolores is going to be able to use to destroy humankind is for us to find out in these last 2 episodes. Could be both.
I don't believe so but I could be wrong. When Dolores was talking to Teddy about the valley beyond back in episode 2 or 3 she said "it's not a place, it's a weapon" and said someone was foolish enough to show it to her once referencing when William took her there, showed it being built and threw her "have you ever seen anything so full of splendor" line back at her.
It could be a weapon in the sense she uses it for whatever she's trying to accomplish. But I doubt it's some kind of giant doomsday device. With Ford who knows though. I need to rewatch or see if I can find some screen caps.
The cradle wasn't the weapon that was the backups of all the hosts. She's definitely said at some point this season that the weapon in the valley beyond is gonna be used for "what's coming for us" or something along those lines.
I loved that episode so much next week looks awesome as well also I’m falling in love with William’s daughter
I know I keep bringing it but it’s bothering me, Hopkins didn’t sign on for S2 so are these all scenes he shot last year or were the reports of Hopkins not coming back for S2 a ploy to throw us off?
The valley beyond is filled with the host versions of board members and wealthy individuals who wanted to live forever. Old man Delos was the ground zero test subject and like Ford said, they will eventually figure it out. Delores empties the minds of her horde (these host have no data) and places them into the bodies of mainlanders (invasion mainland). Bernard also is a fresh body once he wakes up on the beach. There’s a massive scar on his temple that’s not there when he wakes up.
I read something where the actor who plays Bernard talks about how he enjoyed working with Hopkins again.
Ford's speech at the gala in S1E10: Of course, Ford's speech at the gala was right before he was killed. And, as we learned from this week's episode, right before Akecheta arrived to see his dead body. So, yes, I fully agree that Akecheta is a pivotal, Dolores-level main character. The storyline of the Ghost Nation as a whole appears to be as integral as any other.
Just caught up. Favorite episode of the series. One thing I thought was missing -- for me, at least -- was an empathic connection to the characters or to a character. To be sure, Maeve drew me in the most, but I was still a bit detached. Akecheta and his backstory, though, have drawn me fully in. Outstanding storytelling by the show's creators and truly riveting acting from Zahn McClarnon. If he doesn't win some hardware, there is something wrong.
Because ake has had 10 years to develop his own personality free of influence. He rejected his program of savagery years back and is the most human host there is.
i don’t want to turn this thread this direction so i’ll stop, but it’s just so perfectly dump that your last two posts are saying how much you loved the episode and then completely missing what the entire episode built up to
I’m late to this but amazing episode. The cinematography was outstanding. My opinion the best of the series so far. The director was Uta Briesewitz. Her first episode of WW. She’s also a former (badass) cinematographer, and did 20+ episodes of The Wire as DP. Her style obviously carried over to this episode with the many wide-angle shots that were awesome.
disappointing, but much like the rest of the big reveals, super predictable the tech that performed the modifications basically told us this was gonna happen lazy isn’t the word, but it just feels like the writers sorta went the easy route this season they should take notes from the kiksuya ep (best episode of the series?) and realize that all the smoke and mirrors fall way back when you put out a product that tells a deeper story and sucks the viewer in
