I've decided to start shaving my head bald. I come to you for advice on what to purchase as a starter kit of sorts.
I just shave mine with the same razor/gel as I do on my face. Shines up nicely if I do say so myself.
Yeah nothing special needed. Same shaving cream and razor I use for my beard. It's amazing how quickly the skin on your scalp will get used to it. I could probably shave my whole head with just warm water now.
That’s how I shave my shitty stubble. My dad was bald at 18, grandpa on my moms side also bald. I’m 28 and still fighting the good fight, but it’s not much longer I feel like. The receding hairline has been pretty much the same since my middle teens though edit* I vividly remember my best friend in HS being able to run his hands through his hair and it would just appear on his hands... I’ll get a hair every now and then, but he’s been bald since 18-20.
Don’t shave it , live damnit. Live every precious moment as if this was the last year of your life because in many ways it is. Hold on because what you have are not scraps. They are the historic remains of a once great society of hair.
Anyone tried any of the hair loss treatments? Starting to thin out. When I was younger my dad used propecia and that lucky bastard had more hair after than he did before I figured since that was 20+ years ago there has been advancements in the hair treatment fields
Wife got me the Pitbull shaver. Have just been doing no-guard for years, but I’m officially down to skin with this and it’s awesome. Can’t recommend it enough.
She got me the gold which is fine because I don’t care about the face attachment. I definitely had some major irritation on my neck for about a day to the point of lotioning it frequently after. But the more I shaved, the less I felt the irritation and now it’s basically gone after my fifth time using it.
I've been interested in these types of shavers - been a skinhead for the last 5-ish years and just use razors / cream currently. Do you just use it completely dry or do you still use shaving cream / water?
my problem is ingrown hairs... if I shave down to the skin I get tons if them. I remember when I was 24 having to wear a hat for two week because I made that mistake
don't listen to these pussies telling you to give up on your dreams and shave the head, propecia works I just get the much cheaper generic finasteride from keeps.com, takes about 10 minutes to sign up and take some pictures of your scalp for a doctor to review and give you a prescription without needing to visit a doctor it's about $70 for a 3 month prescription iirc
It regrows, but the extent to which it does depends on how far gone you are. I started taking propecia fresh out of college when I was just starting to thin and it grew to be completely full. Then I just stopped taking it for years to the point that it got really bad up top so I started back up again about two years ago, it's since thickened up to a point that I feel comfortable but does seem like I've hit a wall and am just maintaining now.
Starting to get some grey in my beard and I dig it. Still slowly balding, but still have enough on top to where I don’t have to quite buzz it down, etc. probably have 3 more years though
Also going bald has helped my physical fitness so that’s a plus. Don’t want to be fat/out of shape and bald. Keeps me motivated to exercise
The hair in the center of my head is thinning out. Once it’s all gone up there going to have to consider just shaving it all off.
Used these the last five years or so. I don’t take great care of the blades just been replacing it every 12-18 months. Super easy to use. It is a no guard vs perfectly clean shave (probably obvious but worth nothing) if that’s what you’re going for.
Big one is perfect for the beard (has guards) and the small one is perfect lining up the beard and getting the closest shave I've ever gotten without fully shaving it. I have a slowly receding hairline so I've been shaving for years--just got the kit and it transformed my shaved headness. I used to have to shave more often bc it would grow back in too fast, not anymore
If I could get laser hair removal for my head, I would right now. Tired of having to cut my head bald every 3-4 days.
Amazing how big a deal going bald is to some. As someone who used to shave his head it’s weird that so many are insecure about it.
Do I wish I still had a full head of hair yes, am I going to go to great lengths to try and keep it or regrow, hell no. #teambald
it is crazy how many things we are told we need to feel self conscious about. Weight, height, hair etc and no I’m not some Uber enlightened individual. I have my insecurities like everyone else.
The NY Times tweeted that story probably a half dozen times this weekend. Pretty weird that out of all their stories, thats the one that was on their constant retweet. That said, as a balding man, I am not interested in minoxidil.
My only regret about going bald is that I can’t color my hair weird colors now that I have a job that will let me do that.
I started going grey in my 20s. For a while I’d get my haircut and dyed once a month. IIRC it was a bout 60 a month. One of the best things I did was stop dying it and just go grey.
Yea, as years go by this is easily me, but I’ve been bald since 22 and now 15 years later it’s easy not to care. 25 year old me is a different story. But of course if you told me there’s a very low side effect way to completely regrow my hair I’d snap that up.
I recently paid for my step sons barber school He finished and just a week or so ago earned his full license. I'm think I have a straight razor head shave for free, as often as I want, as long as I live close enough to get it done. Pretty nice
Funny enough. I have/had brown hair. But if I let my beard grow long enough, it gets red and blonde in some sports. Like Dorrough said. “Ice cream paint job”
Pearl, absolutely legit, thank you. Arrived this afternoon, a real zero too. How long do the blades last for you?
Honestly don’t know. The last 3 only lasted a year because I dropped them by mistake. Keep them oiled up and you should be good.
