Finally watched (while paying attention) Encanto today, and how is this even a thread? Moana (and Coco for that matter) are significantly better.
Same. Today the two year old (dressed in full frozen gear) told me her dolls name was Merida. So we watched Brave. One of my favorites. Underrated I think.
We just watched Encanto a couple of days ago and I enjoyed it, but my 2.5 year old is all about Moana and wants to see the video for "my welcome" (as he puts it) multiple times a day.
Brave and Tangled are both pretty good. I think she wore five different frozen dresses today and she’s going to give me a heart attack because she feels it’s necessary to run up the stairs at full speed in her long dress and heels reenacting the ice stair scene when Elsa is singing Let It Go.
Moana was the first movie my daughter really got into. It will always hold a special place in my heart. I will never forget, my whole entire life, the look on her face the first time she watched it years ago. She's 8 now and I still catch her humming how far I'll go. For these reasons it will hold the GOAT disney movie for me and it's not even close.
My wife (Colombian) was disappointed with Encanto because she didn’t think it showed enough about Colombia. Moana, Encanto, Coco and Frozen stay in constant rotation in our house.
This was my 4 year old up until Friday when we finally got her to watch Encanto. We're on our 3rd watch of it right now.
Nah - very few, if any, of those others have 4 legit bangers like Circle of Life, Can you Feel the Love Tonight, Hakuna Matata, and Just Can’t Wait to be King. Though Aladdin is 1b
Under the Sea, Part of That World, Kiss the Girl, Poor Unfortunate Souls is a better quartet. Although Kiss the Girl is about how you shouldn't wait for consent and Under the Sea is a black man singing about how much he hates working. We may need to cancel Little Mermaid.
Ours is the same. He would watch Encanto all day long if we let him. Had to shelve it for awhile because the songs were stuck in my head all day long.
The ending of Luca is so beautiful, but my brain won’t let me stop worrying that they are all about to be murdered by Mussolini in 5-10 years full disclosure I may not be appropriately pegging it as pre-WWII
I don’t think I’ve ever rewatched Moana and I’ve seen Encanto 3 times. I don’t have kids. It’s not even close, I am astounded by the poll results
I liked Encanto a lot and the songs are great. But I found the ending to be a little muddy and rushed. The resolution came quickly and was basically just the abuela quit being an asshole and made up with Mirabel. I feel like there was a lot more to explore in that world though. The rooms in the house make for some great opportunities.
I've never watched Moana but Encanto was mid. Sorry I don't care about your privileged ass family losing their magical powers because Grandma is a bitch.
This seems odd since they took a lot of trips to Colombia and worked closely with the Tourism department to make it as authentic as possible
Her gripe wasn’t that it wasn’t authentic, it was. She just expected to see more about Colombia than buñuelos and empanadas. It was probably more her expectations than anything.
Came out the year after my brother passed. Forever emotional for me due to that. But I love that movie outside of those feelings.
Just watched Encanto for the first time and really enjoyed it, however I liked Moana more. My wife would vote for Encanto, though. Encanto has bangers though.
The family interplay pulled more heartstrings for the wife and I than Moana, even though I am sure I could still recall the entire your welcome song on command. Would watch either one anytime with the kids.
Ah shit man I get that too. I went into it completely blind as to the plot (knew it was something about the De Día Los Muertos) and it was like a week after my grandmother died.
Moana is an incredibly tight story It also encouraged me to go learn a little bit more about Polynesian mythology
Moana was the perfect storm for me of having a 3 yr old daughter (at the time) with Polynesian heritage having a Disney "princess" to look up to that was forging her independence and being a leader instead of looking for love. It also had the side plot of Moana being guided by her grandma and my daughter being super close to her grandma, so the movie was a bonding experience for them. Moana and Inside Out hit me in the dad feels every single time.
