Team Encanto but recently when I’ve driven by myself on long road trips I start tearing up when the grandma sings in “Where You Are”. Just reminds me of my grandma who was always so positive, selfless, and wanted us to do what we made us happy.
Making a sequel is whatever, Disney hasn't done great with them lately, but they have made some good ones in the past. Taking a TV series and changing it into a movie less than a year before release is a recipe for disaster.
I don't think it's by choice, Disney Animation Studios needed a W. They've had a really rough few years with Raya and the Last Dragon, Encanto, Strange World, and Wish all failing to meet expectations. They're pushing sequels on Moana and Zootopia for guaranteed cash flow.
My granddaughter made us put on Wish a few weeks ago when over for the weekend. Perhaps the worst Disney movie I've ever seen.
My son has been on a Cars 2 kick lately and I’m starting to question his taste with how much he likes that movie. He is close to fully switching to Coco as his movie of choice.
Disagree on Encanto. That was a massive hit. It just wasn't marketed correctly. It was the most watched movie on Disney+ for quite a while.
The tone is bizarre. You have mater in Europe?? but also this spy theme that Lightning is involved in but he's also racing in this European racing league which I guess is F1
Yeah I understand, it's a popular movie. I'm talking about money. There are obviously extenuating circumstances like Covid at play here, but looking strictly at Box Office, their last 4 films brought in a combined $713 Million worldwide on an estimated budget of $530-$630 Million. Taking into account how much they spent on marketing (but not streaming profits), they are very likely in the red the last 3-4 years. To put that into perspective, their prior 6 films had done a combined $5.594 billion on a budget of $940 Million. They're pushing sequels like Zootopia and Moana to the very front of the queue because they need a guaranteed money maker.
Because they aren't doing it in OG animation and they are making Mufasa a commoner who ascends to the throne rather then what he seemed to be in OG Lion King?
because they're making him a commoner and also it looks like he knows Timon and Pumbaa. I shouldn't care about these things.
