Are they being absurdly nice to you all? I was with Indiana fans in South Bend last week and we couldn't go 10 feet without Notre Dame fans stopping to say nice things and wish them luck. It was the strangest thing I've ever seen
Outside of a handful of opposing fanbases, this is how we normally are. Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue, and somewhat USC is a different story.
Have mentioned this before, but my experience with ND fans both in Chicago and South Bend was very odd. The younger fans couldn't have been nicer. Anyone over 50 who was old enough to remember the rivalry in the 80s were some of the nastiest fans we ever encountered. My brother was a freshman at UM for the Chicago game and took the L pretty hard. Was sitting against the car with his head in his hands. Some 60+ year old Domer saw him, got right in his face and started screaming at him with all the vitriol he could muster. We had to drag the guy away from him. Nothing will ever top Nebraska fans in terms of niceness though. GOAT road experience. @1 Trofie
As you'd expect, the most insanely welcoming and nice crowd I've ever encountered was at Ball State vs Navy game in Annapolis. These folks were absolutely fucking hyped to adopt us into their bougie tailgates
The absolute best people to tailgate with. Georgia and Clemson fans also very high on the list. Michigan State the absolute worst. Not particularly close. Getting full beer cans heaved at you isn’t fun.
Tbh Georgia is the only bad fanbase to deal with. Everyone else does the grab ass, yawl come have some food thing.
They always are nice. Third time since 2017 and my 4th ND game (USC 2011) and the best ppl. Georgia legit took notes and implemented their traditions.
Our home fanbase is admittedly awful. Our fans that travel are normally pretty well behaved when the game is outside the state of Florida.
"ND is in town y'all, now act like you got some sense! Don't make me grab you by the back of the britches!"
We were told upfront that because we hosted them so well previously that they felt compelled to treat us like gold, so there was that.
The Nebrsaka experience changed me as a fan. I try to be as welcoming and polite as possible to road fans when they walk by our tailgate.
I was invited to a few TMB tailgates when we went to Nebraska. Was drunk and lost as hell trying to find them. At least half a dozen Husker fans saw a lost Miami fan, pointed me in the right direction, handed me a beer or a hotdog and sent me on my way. The absolute best.
Yeah you guys apparently took some stuff from our pregame stadium operation and presentation (ie. ushers around campus welcoming opposing fans, etc) afterward
Pretty absurd season with this going on all year. Plus the thumb towards the end of the year. Also explains the complete lack of mobility.
Not in Berkeley this year. Have never seen a fanbase more obnoxious, especially considering how that game went.
I've seen enough clips of how your fanbase acted throughout that game to give absolutely zero shits about what the Cal home fans think.
I’m not much of a Cal fan, just go to a couple games each season because the stadium is within walking distance. They suck too, but in a very different and less obnoxious way.
Not on that night. Find any clip during the comeback near the miami sidelines. Absolutely embarassing behavior.
The student section? That’s who’s behind the opposing teams sideline, or at least most of it. I don’t count a bunch of plastered 18 to 21 year olds as representative of any fanbase.
Worst fan base I’ve encountered as a visiting/neutral site fan (big caveat: never been to the Horseshoe). But even Michigan State fans are more pleasant. Nebraska and Utah were the friendliest in my experience, though Washington was pretty decent at the natty last season/in Seattle this season. But yeah, Illinois fans are shitty in my experience.
Yeah, we know. Leaving Rutgers in 2014 after you guys shit the bed is the only time I thought I might actually get stabbed or something just for being a visiting fan. But it wasn't that surprising.
I've been everywhere in the B1G except UM and MSU (and the three new schools we haven't played away yet) and most were pleasant to indifferent. Illinois and Rutgers are the only ones I've experienced any kind of hostility.
How does one, who has watched many clips, confuse the student section (18-22 year olds) with the normal 23-70 year old fan base?
Dillingham comes off as pretty goofy, but he seems like a legitimately good dude. He’s been cheering on an ASU transfer who came to ND this year on Twitter
I mean, yeah it sucks that they haven't gotten one but Oregon has consistently been good since I was like 12, so sick burn I guess?
