Saw that yesterday. Spider hombre saved that dude's life, or at least spared him of permanent brain damage because one dumbass doesn't know how to unload plates from a barbell.
I know a guy that has a guy kill himself by throwing himself in front of his car. That really fucked him up. I always feel bad for the driver in these situations.
My dad drove a train for over 40 years and had multiple people kill themselves standing on the tracks or throwing themselves in front of it. All he could do is hit the brakes and try and turn his head but he’s always had a hard time with it even way after the fact.
This situation is an ongoing nightmare of mine. The road that I drive into and out of work is lined on both sides with derelict RVs and it isn't uncommon to have someone pop out from between a couple of them into the street. Its a 45 mph speed zone and I'm terrified someone is going to walk in front of my truck. At least in the summer there is sunlight in the morning, but in winter when it's dark and raining it would be hard to react.
Shit is scary in Spokane because they have a substantial unhoused problem. And unlike Yakima’s unhoused, there seems to be a much higher preponderance of irrationality (not sure if mental health, drugs, or both), but they’re constantly just darting out into traffic with no rhyme, reason, or regard for traffic.
I was in Seattle several years ago and it was really bad then. I can't even imagine how bad it is there now.
The worst ones were people trying to beat a train in their cars because a lot of times it involved families. It was over a decade ago but after the incident and the surviving family member losing in court they tried to sue my dad personally. It was after the Amtrak deal with cell phones. They tried to say my dad was texting or on the phone when it happened. He’s never texted a day in his life. He just got an iPhone after he retired but had an old flip phone that he’d turn off when he was at the yard office, throw in his bag, and not turn back on again until he got home. Well they pulled I don’t know how many years of cell records and no texts ever and no incoming or outgoing calls during that period. He called me all shook up because he hated to see the surviving family crying having to relive all that stuff and wanting to blame him. Not sure if the lawyer brought it before them to get them to do it or what but it upset him really bad for everyone to have to go through that again. We have a whole thread on it but people in cars make horrible decisions when it comes to stuff like that.
I know you are being glib, but yes, modern day mega trucks and SUVs are killing more people and they should require additional tax, permitting and insurance to drive.
The area around where I work has a lot of traffic and tons of idiots that jaywalk like that. I've almost seen that happen a handful of times and almost had someone step out in front of me.

That doesn't make any sense, if it was gas heated then an enormous leak would have had to have filled the house and someone would have almost certainly smelled it.
My brother-in-law got rear ended on his motorcycle about five years ago. Sunday drive, slowed down to turn, guy behind him didn’t bother to brake. Threw him into a ditch. Wound up with multiple fractured vertebrae, multiple fractured ribs, had to have an external fixator to put his pelvis back together. Still walks with a bit of a limp. Cherry on top: Guy didn’t have insurance.
Did the other guy die, too? It looked like he was shot nearly point blank, but somehow still managed to scoot away.
Apparently was saved by bulletproof vest he was wearing as he was the security guard. This was at a bank in Brazil.
