I did the tupperdor thing with some tupperware. Did some searching and mine is along the lines of #1 here- https://bespokeunit.com/cigars/humidors/diy/tupperdors/
Jealous of the humidity level. Mine is all over the fucking place. Hydrometer (digital on the outside) says 64%. Digital hydrometer on the inside says 62%. I have an electric humidifier on the bottom shelf that says it's 72%, which is what I want. I know it works because if I open it for more than 10 seconds it kicks on. Never seen such a discrepancy in humidity level. They smoke just fine so not worried about it. I have like 70 cigars or so in there so maybe that's throwing it off depending on where the hydrometer is sitting.
Might be the issue. I mean I have an electric hydrometer in there, one of the cups with the beads and a few humidity packs. The packs and beads aren't disappearing quickly so it's fine just drives me crazy.
Your device also could not be sealing, dad had this problem.... around my way you can take your device to knowledgeable people at cigar shops and they get it to the right humidity for you . Or call manufacturer , depending on your equipment.
The interesting thing is up until a month or so ago I was maintaining about 68%, and then my wife pointed out that I had this glycol solution that goes in a humidor and she was going to throw it out. I didn't realize I had it, and I added it and ever since then it has been maintaining 72-74, which is a bit higher than I would like but the cigars are smoking well and I haven't seen any signs of infestation or problems associated with high humidity. I also have not had to fill up the reservoir once since I added it, which is unusual compared to water.
Have you tried reprepping the humidor by taking everything out and wetting the entire box down for a couple of days?
I had to do that recently. Pulled everything out and put it in the tupperdors and reseasoned the desktop humidor and it's been a bit better. Will likely require another reseasoning within the next 6-8 months.
Yep. All my hydrometers went up to 72% immediately. The digital ones went back down to 64% in about a week. My electronic humidifier with the hydrometer stayed at 72%-74%. I will hear it kick on from time to time when I walk by so I think it's maintaining it. I never trust the built in ones to begin with and my digital one I bought is on the top rack while all my humidifier products are on the bottom. Wonder if that's making a difference in it's readings.
Finally found a place here in Aruba that sells legit Cubans and not fakes. I know this because, for me, Cubans hit harder than other cigars. Never been a cigarette smoker or a dipper but I'm assuming this is the "tobacco buzz" that people talk abt.
These HVC 500th Anniversary sticks are amazing. My guy threw a few in my locker at the cigar bar and I’m finally trying one.
Joined the Privada Cigar Club a couple months ago and it has been a game changer. I typically only smoke a couple of cigars a month and just go to the local cigar shop with a terrible selection. I;ve really enjoyed everything they've sent except one cigar that was just ok.
What kind of cutter do you use? I’ve been using a Xikar XO, but I always seem to angle it and/or don’t get a crisp cut and end up getting a slightly two layered cut where the blades meet. Anyone use a punch or V cut? Was thinking about getting a Les Fines for a cleaner straight cut. Anyone have one/recommend it?
Sucked down an Oliva Serie O to celebrate the birth of my son the other day. Hadn’t hit a cigar or cig in years and dammmmmmmnnnnnnnn was that a good buzz. I chased it w some bourbon and nugg but I woulda been swimming off the tobacco alone.
I always used a punch back when I used to smoke. You never have to worry about a sloppy cut or peeling, and it makes the back half taste better, IMO. The trade off is sometimes it’s a bit finicky to start and/or you have to work the cherry, but it’s not a huge issue. Never had good luck w v-cuts but a lot of people love them.
Depends on where you want to start. Have you smoked cigars before? Do you have a cutter, torch, etc.? If the answer is no, then I would suggest a mild/mellow cigar to start off with. If you plan on smoking a couple of them over a week, then go a sampler pack. Quick google search landed me on this page- https://www.smallbatchcigar.com/small-batch-classic-tasting-notes I don't know anything about Small Batch Cigar (or those specific cigars) but maybe that helps some. Everyone has their different websites they use but the ones I have used so far, and been pleased with, are Cigars international and Holts Cigars.
Yea I have in the past. I had cutter and torch but I have no idea where they are after moving 50 times. I'd just go to wherever sold them buy random cigars. No real idea of what I was doing.
I am just not an Ashton guy. My consistent daily cigars right now: New World Cameroon. Southern Draw Sharon's Rose Plasencia Reserva Original Monte Cristo by AJ Fernandez Arturo Fuente Rosado Sungrown Magnum "Fourty Four" Tatuaje Black Label New cigar to try for you all. Also yes I am bias but for $30.00 you get Cigar of the month Club. https://www.smokeinn.com/Cigar-of-the-Month-Club-Monthly-Subscription.html You get 5 cigars that are roughly $60.00+ in total price for $30. Lets you try new things.
really dislike Gurkhas San Cristobol is one that does no wrong in my book. Quintessence and Revelation are two of my all-timers.
