Need recs…looking to get a nice coffee maker/espresso machine. Looked at breville and jura at Williams Sonoma. They recommended the Juras. Don’t need to make eleventy thousand different drinks but do want the flexibility to make a regular black coffee as well as espresso. Sorry if the terminology is off I am new to this. We currently use a aeropress.
Wife seems to think we could get an espresso machine and add hot water to make regular coffee. Not sure if that works or if it is even economical.
I have a bunch to learn. I am sure I could look on YouTube but not have had an Americano how is taste vs just a regular black coffee?
Americano is going to be thicker and definitely more bold. You generaly won't get the nuisanced flavors of a drip coffee
Gotcha. Sounds maybe similar to what I get from the aeropress. So back to my original question what espresso machine? Would like to stay under $4k.
You voted for the “fuck your problems, pull yourself up by your own bootstraps” party, so pull yourself up by your K-cup and figure shit out for yourself. Why expect help from people you clearly don’t want to help? Just fucking leave.
Just know I am laughing at you and liking your post just so you know I see them. Choosing to take your assumptions and turn a coffee thread political. Done responding, thank you for the laugh.
VaxRule take the personal/political shit elsewhere. Stop being an asshole & cluttering up the coffee thread for the rest of us.
Fuck off. People that actively work deny help from those who need it shouldn’t have their requests for help answered. Every aspect of life is political. Every thread is political.
You must be a joy at parties... Hate him & the other half of the nation all you want, just do it elsewhere
Swung into Bold Bean Wednesday, and ended up talking with their head roaster for 10-15 minutes... he was extremely excited for their Rare Club offerings, coming in the next few months. Seemed to think they'll be the best yet, which is saying something as the last few months have been superb.
Aeropress is a pseudo espresso but it doesn't produce enough pressure to be actual espresso. So the results would be somewhat similar. I have a Breville Barista Pro which has the grinder built in. I have been working on getting it dialed in but I haven't committed enough time to getting it all the way there. Can't really comment on much beyond that, unfortunately
I'd suggest getting an espresso machine without a built-in grinder & allocate $$$ towards a high quality grinder.
I was going to go that route but the new Barista Pros have the Baratza burrs. That coupled with my current coffee setup taking up way too much space, I decided that it was good enough for me.
For sure - Definitely good enough, and counter space is a huge factor... He mentioned having a $4k budget, which is why I brought it up.
g8r FOUND YOU SOME LIGHT READING *as said in the church lady voice* Spoiler I'm sorry guys, I'm addicted to shitposting
I have a Breville infuser and a great grinder considering stepping up to a dual boiler machine such as Rancilio Silvia pro X or an ECM machine. thoughts or concerns? daily espresso or lattes. https://www.ranciliogroup.com/rancilio/silvia-pro-x/
Always feel like I hear that the Silvia is the best entry level machine <$1000, so why not go one step up?
For whatever reason my card quit working with Bold Beans sub a couple months back but have really enjoyed Little Wave. recently gave their full bodied and chocolatey option a go, delightful espresso
I switched from the Light and Bright to the Rosters Choice. Been loving it. What’s been your favorites from the full bodied one?
i was gifted an atlas subscription but it runs out at the end of the year please post your thoughts because i’ve enjoyed atlas but would like to try another once this expires
I’ve mostly used Bold Bean), Little Waves, fellow drops. All of which are great but I’d say for the past year fellow is now just for special bags (too $$$$$). Both Bold and Little waves have good variety and decent shipping without being too expensive (~$20 for 12oz). I found Onyx to all be very tea flavored and way too expensive. Counter culture is good but I mostly consume them from the occasional WF emergency buy pratyk could point you to more exotic stuff if you’re inclined
I’m biased to Little Waves because they are local and their shop coffee shops are great. Bold bean is great too. I used to switch up subscriptions but have stayed with LW for a while now and buy other stuff one off.
We're the same, but opposite - gotta support local & Bold Bean's in my 'hood. I mix it up with Little Waves, Botz & the occasional Fellow Drop
What’s your budget? I’ve not looked at new machines and I haven’t made any espresso in a couple of months due to a busted machine and laziness but ECM (or Profitec) is definitely a better / sturdier bet than Rancilio for dual boilers.
I’ll add September coffee to the mix - good light roasts and not as hard on the wallet as H&S (which is goated but most good bags are 32-33$+ now) if you use fellow drops, try subbing to the Pull & Pour coffee’s texts. I’ve bought more from him (4 bags I think) vs. fellow in the last year (0)
yeah. As with anything I start with budget and increase it for the best option that will last a long time I love the ECM synchronika but it’s at least $1k more than rancilio. Profitec seems great and lower cost but uses vibration vs rotary pump and love the idea of rotary. Even tho my sette grinder is LAF. Maybe silly but this size of machine is also part of the kitchen vibe and design. The ECM is incredible also for that reason. I’m going to continue with infuser until I find a sale or a better reason to upgrade. $3k is investment for a machine.
Similar but I was looking to recommend a coffee sub to people who want to get ME a gift. Atlas keeps targeting me with ads but not sure it’s the right fit. I see Trade brought up a lot when I google search for options.
Trade was alright, ultimately I wanted to support the roaster and not the middle man. Always worried about how much Trade was skimming
That’s the criticism I see but the plus side is it can be a way to discover the roasters to support. Maybe why as a one time gift for a few months it can be a good way to try.
i’d give atlas a 6/10 there was a couple times they sent the same bag back to back there wasn’t anything i didn’t like but only one that i really enjoyed (shoutout rwanda) and that’s why i'm looking to switch
