Great episode. Campaign has been really good last 3 weeks. Fearne has been hilarious. Love the FCG lore drop.
that’s old lore drop, I meant from this week Spoiler him attacking chetney and being the one eye monster that killed dancer and crew
im getting close to the end of the briarwood arc in my c1 rewatch. percy is staying almost dead and taliesin keeps talking about his next character that he's super excited about playing (molly). i find some humor in how that went.
It’s amazing how close they were to TPKs and multiple player deaths in C1 that I never felt in C2 or yet in C3
Spoiler keyleth dying and only way to plane shift out of Hell was closer. Ends the campaign. but, 2 dead, another unconscious with 2 death save fails is the worst fight to date. ASSUMING Matt keeps them dead. To be honest, Fearne’s character is basically done from a plot perspective (unless she goes back to her hag “grandmother”, but it’s still a fun and popular character) and Orym has always been a supporting cast character and looks like they basically found what he was after. Still crazy episode though and completely changes the campaign going forward. Molly dying in C2 was the best thing to happen to the “show” part of C2 to make it more entertaining imo.
Also apparently twitch chat/twitter was toxic toward Matt last night and today. Loved this comment and think it hits the nail on the head: They are some people with some serious mental issues in the fan base.
Now I know not everyone plays D&D for the same reason, but combat encounters that get PCs close to death or kill off a party member or 2 are almost always the most memorable experiences I’ve had in D&D. And who doesn’t have a backup character idea?? Or a class/subclass they’ve always wanted to try? I’ve yet to play a fighter! Kill off my bard pls!
just started the chroma conclave in c1. will friedle plays kash perfectly and literally never breaks.
Spoiler figures that Ashley finally had an interesting and entertaining character and that's the one that dies lol curious to see the fallout of Imogen going Dark Phoenix
Spoiler so i got the impression that perhaps laudna was going to come back but fcg casting gentle repose might have pushed that back 10 days. it definitely delayed something 10 days and im not sure what else it could be that would have prompted matt's response to it.
Spoiler it sounds like they're going to call Keyleth again. Since Marisha is out right now i wonder if Matt will let her play her in the interaction?
Partner and I have talked about playing tons of times and just had a game place by her house open that gets players in contact with DMs. We’re going to an intro thing on Oct 1. Interested in checking out one of these series but there’s a metric fuckton of content by these guys. Someone give me a good jumping off point?
critical role has all their stuff up on podcast or YouTube. Episodes usually run 4 hours. I started campaign 2. Campaign 1 is also great and how they got famous but you sort of get dropped into the middle of their campaign as they had been playing at home for a long time. Personally I think campaign 2 was better than 1 overall but you’re right it’s a huge time investment but it’s really fun. Campaign 1 is what the Amazon show is based on. i got into dnd streams through acquisitions incorporated which was run by Chris Perkins who DMed for the guys that own Penny Arcade. That has blown up into its own thing now with them running shows at PAX every year. Much shorter and less lore dense. Essentially a bunch of one shots. A lot less rulesy as well. also listen to high rollers, started at the start of campaign 2 which is still going on like 4 years later. Not actors like the critical role people are but it’s still fun. adventure zone’s original campaign plays a dnd-ish game but I thought it was fantastic. Dad and two brothers play with their other brother as the DM.
there’s a shitload of lore in calamity and they are all high level characters. May not make much sense to someone that has spent no time in Exandria
thats fair. i was thinking it might be a good choice because its short and really good, but you're probably right.
The truth is, anything these guys do might be well outside my knowledge range, considering I know nothing. Perhaps a more beginner-friendly series is in order.
campaign 2 of critical role they start at level 1. So you’re getting in on the ground floor. when they started adventure zone 75% of the cast didn’t know how to play dungeons and dragons
Spoiler you can tell Marisha wants Laudna back. Matt just gave the part 20k in money and direct access to healers it would take ages to get to normally. Granted, Liam having access to Keyleth was pretty clutch as well
Looks like this starts in Episode 7/8 of the podcast? They don't label them very clearly. I'm just about to finish up Gerblins, which is the first 6 episodes and was a really great intro and explanation of everything(since the dad and friend were both completely foreign to DnD). Hoping someone can give me some insight from the DM perspective. I downloaded DnD Beyond and was just looking through materials. One of the free campaigns is Lost Mine of Phandelver, which, looking through the campaign, is obviously the full version of that they're playing here. Griffin just shortened it drastically - I assume as a good intro for the newer guys - and then built the narrative for the actual story. Is that basically standard practice for DM?
i think adventure zone became something much bigger than they thought it would so yes they ran that adventure and then it really branches out. Taako turns into an all time great dnd stream character in my opinion. I don’t think there’s standard practice for GM’s. Some just world build from the start, some just run book campaigns, some do both. It’s just personal preference
I only hope he eventually pieces together the ingredients to invent tacos. I got my partner hooked on the series, too. Like I said, we've talked about playing for a white and we have an intro at the beginning of October but she was definitely expecting to listen to the podcast and be like, "yeah, this is something I could try but I don't think I'll stick with it"...but she's genuinely enjoyed the podcast and is excited.
Alright, nerds, me and my game group have been playing Oathsworn the last two weeks, and it's fucking awesome. Customizable miniatures are the future. Highly recommend.
basically everything clarkson said in yesterdays vid about the feedback loop is great. 1.5 years of beta testing is going to go super well imo.
Spoiler: Don't know if this needs spoilered... have to imagine if/when they get Laudna back she will lose her warlock abilities. Will be interesting to see where she goes with the character because it feels like it would be weird if she and Imogen are both sorcerers only
