It's that time TMB. It's time for you to all start playing DotA 2. What is DotA 2? only not really. DotA 2 is the sequel to Dota, Defense of the Ancients, a former warcraft 3 mod that has become what is likely the most played videogame of all time. Those familiar with Dota-Clones like Heroes of Newerth or League of Legends will need no introduction to the structure of the game, but for those with no experience. Here's the breakdown Spoiler BUT BRICKTOP, I DON'T KNOW WHAT THESE WORDS MEAN, LET ME SEE SOME GAMEPLAY Here's purge (semi pro player and commentator) playing a complete game and describing what's happening and such. You only really need to watch the first 5-10 minutes or so to get a decent grasp of what the game looks like. Essentially, It's 5v5. You and your 4 teammates versus 5 enemies. Each of you controls a single hero while the computer controls the spawning of AI creeps. But bricktop, why would I want to play DotA 2? 1. It's free 2. It's an incredibly deep and complex game that has an essentially unlimited skillcap. 3. Each game runs from between 20 minutes to an hour, you don't need to grind out any items or play it constantly. If you have an hour free you can get a game in. 4. It has pretty low system requirements so you can play it even if your computer sucks. Sounds good to me, How do I get in on this gaming goodness? Add me on Steam (if you don't have a steam account, make a free one and download steam). My username is 8:30 Reservations at Dorsia. I have tons of invites but if i should run out, you can also add user Name P. Redacted or @jeffery Lebowski. They both have invites and will likely be posting in here. user 2Poor is also a DotA player but i don't know if he has any invites. OK! I've got the game installed and I'm ready to play. What should I expect? That's the unfortunate reality of the situation. you are going to suck. you are going to get your ass beat. your teammates will yell and scream at you, often in languages you won't understand. DotA is hard. Very hard. It doesn't so much have a learning curve as it has a learning cliff. It will take months of playing for you to get significantly better the best way to learn the very basics is probably this guide http://www.playdota.com/guides/welcome-to-dota-you-suck So why should i bother playing at all? because dota is still an incredible game and the feeling you get when you pull off something amazing is sublime. and because you can pull off seriously insane shit like this. But Bricktop, Why should I play DotA 2 when TMB already has a bunch of people who plays league of legends? Why buy the knockoff when the original is free? DotA 2 is the superior game. The guy who made the original dota maps, Guinsoo, eventually went on the start League of Legends. The only problem with this is that Guinsoo's dota maps were fucking terrible. The man who fixed them, IceFrog (hence the TCU icon), is the lead developer for DotA 2. But the real reason to pick DotA 2 over league of legends is that LoL is a pay to win game. You start with a limited roster of heroes you can pick from and unless you're willing spend 2000+ hours grinding to unlock all of them, you will be forced to pay. Not having all the characters and runes puts you at a competitive disadvantage. Dota 2 has no such pay to win mechanics. The only determining factor in how far you go in the game is how good you are. BUT BRICKTOP, HOW DO I PLAY WITH TMBERS? Join the Official TMB Dota 2 Steam group! http://steamcommunity.com/groups/TMBMR

Game is mad fun. I like it a lot better than LoL, but that's probably b/c I'm more familiar with the characters since I played a ton of the original dota. My friend with like 30 invites hooked me up too.
Solid first post, I wouldn't recommend starting Dota unless you can try to get through the initial "WTF am I doing phase why am I dying so much".
Bad first post. He didn't even put his steam tag in it. Anyways I have 4 keys so just add me if you want one. steam account: Hvit_Djevel
Never played LoL, what are some of these mechanics? I've heard LoL people say denying is a stupid mechanic so I guess it is just a different perspective.
I know that, I was just curious about specific examples. I know there is no denying, players have 5 (?) abilities, everyone has a TP scroll ability instead of item, mana costs are lower. I know there are runes or something too to provide passive bonuses. Also all heroes not being available for free.
Probably best with Windrunner off lane. Pretty good support venomancer as well. I rarely play carries or semis
Favorite(s): Drow - I've always played her a good amount, even back when her ult gave you a random chance to insta-kill a creep Rubick - Really fun to chain spell steal the other teams big moves Veno - pretty damn solid support that is relevant throughout most of the game. great tower pushing power at lvl 7 with wards Crystal Maiden - Wish she ran a bit faster, otherwise really good hero. Spell: Glimpse - nothing makes me laugh more than sending a person who TP's to a tower back to their base. Wasting their time and gold Most successful: Leshrac - I think I am like 20-2 with that hooved bastard.
There are bushes that you won't have vision of a person no matter how close you are unless you are in the bush or have a ward in it. So in bot lane, where the carry goes, if you have a shitty support you can easily get zoned and not be able to farm. If a person get killed several times in a row without getting a kill they progressively become worth less gold. You have the Obama welfare champions that don't require mana to use skills. They recently upped everyone's movement by 25 and lowered what boots gave you to 25. This gives a huge advantage to people that had high ms in the first place imo. Now a person that use to have 325 has 350 and can go without boots and have the same ms as someone that use to be at 300 with boot. Literally takes around 300-400 games before you get to lvl 30 and are able to get full runes. Champions that have dashes can use them to jump through terrain. The jungle has way to many bottleneck points. The fact that they have a separate mode for ranked really makes the whole getting to level 30 thing useless. If you don't want to play for a rating you should be in custom games. You just spent 300 games to be able to get to be able to play ranked and half the people playing ranked still have no clue how to play a fucking game. **TL:DR version: Go fuck yourself San Diego
4 abilities with 2 summoner spells, the heroes not all being available is so overrated. There at least more than 10 heroes that are played competitively that are 1350 ip or less which is like 5 or 6 wins at most to get. I haven't played much DOTA2 so I can't really talk specifically.
Yeah if you get an early lead you can easily carry with veno but that doesn't always happen. I know I used to (years ago in dota1) play veno and vs as carries because they are agi. I also remember filling my inventory with null talismans so I could spam stun...
Going to break this down a little bit. 1) Sounds like a mechanic that requires more skill/awareness. 2) Snowbally game was always complained about so riot did something to counter it that doesn't take away the advantage of winning. 3) All of those champions have bad scaling unless they are snowballing 4) Everyone was upped by 25 so it doesn't hurt anyone at all just changes how the game is played early (difference between 325 and 300 is the same as 350 and 325) 5)True 6)The problem is? They all have a trade off somewhere else 7)Again don't see the problem. Learn the map 8) See number 5, but look at your 5th mechanic as well and now you know why there's separate queues.
4)So say a jungle champ that use to have 325 now has 350 while an adc will only have 350 after getting boots. You are saying there is no advantage to that jungle champ now. They lowered the actual necessity of boots which is dumb. They lowered the value of early mobility. 2) 8) If you combine these two then you have less faggots complaining about snowballing because they are in a shit tier bracket. Also I have to wait 400 games before I can play with more idiots great.
There's no rage at all. I'm just further elaborating upon points that were either wrong or not explained clearly. If that's rage, I guess I'm a Michigan fan now.
I expect LoL to still be popular but probably with the new-to-the-genre crowd or people who want a game that is lesser consequences for being bad. That being said, I already play with enough ragers who don't realize their mistakes. I am not looking forward to dealing with more of that.
Also steam is bigmac5706, user name EMAW. Add me. Usually late at night once gf goes to bed. No mic either.
Last time I used a mic for gaming was arena in burning crusade. It is probably something I should invest in though.
it helps a shitload. No longer have to type anything, and when one of your teammates gets ganked and gives up first blood you can just blame it on him having his volume off because you called it instead of typing it in. Fantastic.
If you don't see the advantage that a lower ms difference between having boots and not having boots gives to a high ms hero early game than you might need to rethink going to college.
wut. Explain what you mean please. How is the difference between 355 (highest base move speed in the game IIRC) and 325 (lowest base) any different then 330 and 300? Unless of course you buy boots on your laners still. Then I could see your gripe. I haven't bought boots for my lanes since the patch, but if you are buying boots, then you're laning wrong. Just because you fail to adapt to a change in the game doesn't make the change wrong. Anyway any easy to play(mechanically) champs in DotA, so I can pick up the overall mechanics easier?
What kind of character do you prefer? It's really all preference and most characters are pretty straightforward. Ursa is pretty OP right now and combos its abilities well. Do you like ranged Agi/Int or Str characters?
OP right now? Why just right now? He hasn't been touched in quite a while. He always is strong if you don't stop his jungle farm and cannot kite him. Generally I prefer ranged agi/int. Right clicking feels a bit boring to me, I like landing a skillshot and having a bit of a range buffer. Also people don't support so I'll default into that a lot if I don't random.
Haven't played him much since they added that delay to edict, but this is how I went: 1 point in stun, max edict then lightning. Skill ult at 10/11. Start putting putting points in stats after so you can be tanky and stay in fights to spam damage. Go middle, farm up a bloodstone ASAP; usually start with mana boots then pers then disassemble boots for bloodstone. Try to start pushing towers around level 7-10. If you're teammates haven't fucked up by then you should be pretty strong and nuking the shit out of people. The biggest thing is learning the timing on split earth. Of course none of this works if you have teammates that insist taking mid and putting you to some support role. Lesh is similar to other heroes like Shadow shaman, necro and death prophet where the increased exp and farm of mid helps you gain an early lead in the tower game.
Oh my brain knows how to play the dude. It's my fingers that are the problem. Split earth is such a bitch to land without a preceding stun. Points usually go into lightning instead of edict early because I'll end up playing hard lane with him due to 3 people fighting over safe lane. He is such a shit hero for hard lane unless in an offensive trilane.
