Just hit 100 lbs lost since December. Starvation and exercise, no drugs. Tipped the scales at 305 in December and decided I should probably get a head start on my New Year’s resolution. I have been overweight my entire life and I don’t think I have been 200 lbs since middle school. Still have probably another 15 to go, but I am feeling great. Not being able to keep up with my 3 year old son at the park was a real eye opener when I was at my heaviest…
Started semaglutide beginning of march. Am 6’3” and was 243 with BP sitting around 145/100. Am down to 215 today with BP at 130/90 typically. goal is to get to 200 and 120/80 regularly. Process has been really easy with no side effects. I work out most mornings. Diet is protein shake in morning, cold pressed juice mid morning, salad I don’t finish for lunch, more juice in afternoon and dinner is one of the meal delivery plates we make that I eat about 2/3 of. Sit at 1200ish calories a day. Drink a lot less beer now too due to feeling full. I’m a former athlete and have been active but I’ve struggled with portions, been kinda guy who can eat a pizza without feeling full. This has solved all of that. Recommend if anyone is on the fence.
Hit 240 today on semaglutide. Probably got close to 260 before starting. Will hit the final 2.4mg dose in another week or so. No dietary restrictions or changes really. Wasn’t eating much sugar or processed food to begin with, and definitely don’t have much of a taste for alcohol anymore. Went from social drinker to barely having any. Bike and peloton are primary form of exercise. Trying to get to 205-210 and go on maintenance if I can keep getting it approved. In college it was impossible to get and stay below 200 without starving myself, even with gym/running etc daily to multiple times a day.
It’s covered for weight loss by my insurance. (Cigna). Might be a pipe dream to keep it approved for maintenance but we’ll see. I have high triglycerides kind of controlled with low dose statin but it messes with my liver. Not sure where that lies in the approval for cardiovascular disease though. BP and the rest of my labs have always been fine.
WLB and TE in high school. HBack in college (D2). Played at 215ish. Worked 50+ hours out of school and partied hard and gained weight I never lost. Last few years I’ve been relatively healthy meaning work out 3/4 times a week and don’t eat like shit. It’s still been hard to stay below 230ish. Been a game changer.
Moved up the Sema compound from 0.25mg to 0.50mg this week then it’s supposed to goto 1mg for the four weeks after that. Did the shot Saturday night and it seems to be a noticeable difference. Im trying to figure out the best strategy for when to eat. Typically I’m not too hungry in the morning so skip breakfast without issue but on the medication I’ve noticed I’ll get a little light headed throughout the day. Has anyone dealt with this? I’ve seen some people suggest a protein shake in the morning so might try that. Or eat a small breakfast then do a protein shake around lunchtime.
Protein shake in the morning works pretty well for me most days. I do 9oz almond milk with 2 scoops/1 serving of powder and a heaping spoon of PB2. Banana with peanut butter works well as a substitute for that, too. I’ve found that If I eat a real breakfast I generally don’t have lunch, then eat a small (read normal person sized) dinner. If I don’t eat breakfast or do a shake I’ll usually have lunch and maybe an evening snack. I’m getting in like a meal and a half to two a day. I’d work backwards from when you want to eat with your family or friends. I do notice occasional lightheadedness. Maybe 2 days a week or so I’ll randomly get the hunger pangs first thing in the morning that come on out of nowhere and feel like I’m going to throw up if I don’t stuff something in my mouth.
The most noticeable thing for me is how full I can feel after drinking something or if I’m drinking a big glass of water with my meal. I don’t feel super hungry, but I also don’t feel uncomfortably full for the most part either like I know some people experience. But if I drink even a bottle of water with a meal, I hit a wall fast. Not a groundbreaking discovery but am trying to make sure I drink more water especially around meals.
Are folks in here taking the off-RX compounds? I'm more and more intrigued by GLP-1 but not going to qualify on my insurance and not going to pay $1,000/mo out of pocket
With the coupon you can get zepbound for 550 a month, or use a wellness clinic where they compound it for around 350 a month
Really feeling the semaglutide now on the high dose. Haven’t had any major side effects. Had a little heartburn last weekend, but that’s not out of the ordinary. I’m getting full on about half of what I would normally eat for a meal, don’t go back for seconds, and think about food way less. Especially at night. Snack a little when I need and then leave it alone. It’s wild.
Lol. Yes. You learn quickly that if you do overeat you won’t be feeling too well a few hours later or the next morning.
I drank about 2 ounces of bourbon last night, after taking my shot yesterday morning, and the heartburn/sickness was the worst I’ve ever had it this morning
Yeah, I had a spicy bloody mary with lunch which was a bowl of smoked gouda mac with nashville hot oysters. Drank an IPA a little later and the heartburn kicked in but tums took care of it. 10/10 would do again. Usually would have a meal out like that and continue to wreck myself the rest of the day. Didn’t get hungry again until a small snack before bed.
Still battling this lol trying to avoid the vape until later in the night to give me less time to make trips to the fridge. Couple of times I’ve woken up the next day feeling like complete shit but unfortunately the combo of weed and ice cream still wins.
I really need to figure out a plan for meals throughout the day. Maybe it’s just the medicine itself but by like 3-5pm most days I just feel super off, not dizzy but more like a sleep deprived feeling (which I also am). I’ve been trying to drink a Fairlife protein drink in the mornings, but I’m wondering if I need to start drinking some electrolytes too. Or just chug way more water, who knows.
I'm no doctor but you probably want to ensure you have some well-balanced meal and snack throughout the day if this is happening to you. Maybe a more substantial breakfast, or at least some fruit later in the day.
Actually just came to post that after reading Reddit there’s a lot of suggestions for Vitamin B/B12. That would probably make sense. A couple of months ago they tested my Vitamin D and it was like as low as humanly possible, so I’ve been taking one daily. Maybe I’ll mix in some other letters!
Yeah, I think where I’m struggling is I’m not normally a breakfast eater, but weirdly I feel like I’ll have to become one while taking this medication.
I was struggling with energy at first too. I’ve started drinking cold press juice all day and it’s night and day different. Have an orange based one in morning, green juice late morning and a beet based one in afternoon. Place in town delivers it in glass bottles to my office and takes the empties like the milk man.
Never tried it but every podcast I listen to says AthleticGreens is the best morning/vitamin drink. Someone else shell out the $$$$ for it and let me know.
Same, except one a days make me puke no matter what so I just live unhealthy. Are AG’s around $100 a month or higher?
Am i correct that this stuff is an appetitive suppressant that makes you lose weight because you eat less? where’s the drug that lets me lose weight while continuing to eat and drink like a slob?
I think you’re looking for orlistat. The only drawback is that you just shit everything out that goes into your mouth. Weight loss or clean underwear, you can choose just one.
Thats called cocaine and while its also incredibly expensive, it does have some history of showing signs of being addictive. However it smells fantastic.
