The new Dungeons and Dragons movie is on Paramount + and it’s really entertaining. I never played the game or anything but the movie is good without knowing anything about it. Chris Pine is really good in it. Same as Legends of Vox Machina on Amazon. They’re really funny
I’ve never listened to the ringer podcast a day in my life unlike noted bitch and Celtics fan LeonardWashington . Instead, I watched Heat every time it came on TNT growing up because it’s a perfect action movie.
And I don’t take offense to others preferring different Michael Mann films. Manhunter, Thief, Mohicans and The Insider are all great but don’t have the same rewatchability factor. Collateral is probably my #2 to Heat for that reason.
The bank robbery scene in TDKR was heavily inspired by Heat. People can have different opinions. I just wouldn't assume your own is the more valid one
Doesn’t Bill Simmons love Pearl Jam too? I can tell you that his opinion of Ten has not informed my own whatsoever.
We’re all probably a little too young to remember but Heat was promoted as a showdown between the two best actors of all time who until that point had never appeared in the same scene as one another (there’s still some debate about the iconic diner scene). Imagine how fucking cool it would have been to go into it with all that hype and then it meets or exceeds expectations.
comparing fans of Heat (the movie) to the band Rush was just a bridge too fucking far. Rush stinks. and even if you like them, I've never had a Rush conversation in my 32 years on earth
I feel like those who see Heat as the GOAT action movie also think Tombstone is the GOAT western. May not be true but I bet there’s overlap. I feel like they are both good movies that are more stylish than great
These jabronis have Family Meeting from the Shield as the 13th best finale of the 21st century. I’m not taking their advice on anything!
not sure what is more terrible, Michael Mann doing that or that terrible post. Spoiler Okay, I do know what is more terrible but I hated that post.
watch D&D movie last night, enjoyed the fuck out of it. Don't need to have an encyclopedic knowledge of the game. Personally, I never played because of parental reasons but i did catch one Easter Egg i liked Spoiler: when the squad enters the maze during the games one of the other teams is the gang from the 80's D&D cartoon. You see em once when the first chest get opened and the young barbarian gets his axe. they were also the team that was in the Sanctuary Cage later on
On this point, the structure of Heat is something you don't see in most action/thriller films nowadays. Is the film long? Sure, but I think that gives it time to breathe. There's time to get to know even the lesser characters (Dennis Haysbert's character, for example). I certainly don't think it's a perfect film. Collateral is still my #1 Mann film. Also, visually this film has aged very well. I don't feel like I'm watching something from 1995 in many ways. Whereas Leon The Professional is just one year older than Heat, and that film feels very dated to me (I still love it).
I didn’t know Legend of Vox Machina was a D&D based show when I started watching it and it’s funny as hell. Definitely not for children and is an R rating.
This is very well said. Mann really takes the time to make sure you’re invested in every character so that when shit happens you actually care about to whom it’s happening. He balances this against three of the best action sequences ever filmed.
they're professional actors and comedians. ngl their existence is frustrating to D&D hipsters like myself who have been conducting this ludicrous hobby in shame and secret for decades. you get tons of normies wanting to play now and not only do they think they know the rules because they watch a YouTube show with tons of home-brew, but they also think it's supposed to be fucking funny.
Collateral was solid. Cruise as a villain was an elite decision, wish he had done more of that in his career. Didn't really love the weird cinematographic choices. The frame rate(at least I think that's what it is) is just sort of an odd choice. Didn't hate it, maybe I just don't get the reason for it. I like the washed out colors. The 10 minute span from everyone heading to Fever and the Ready Steady Go shootout is unreal good.
My dnd game is wildly funny and maniacal in the best ways. Wouldn’t have it any other way. Can’t imagine playing it all serious and hardcore
