Not sure if thread worthy but pretty cool. Some of y’all might be able to see stuff tonight usually only visible much further north
Yeah if it wasn't going to be cloudy here all night id be driving north to a dark skies park right now
Between midnight and morning is what I read earlier. Get as far away from light pollution as possible
Is it a constant thing, or does it roll through. Getting away from light pollution isn’t gonna happen for me lol
Mostly rolling, they may show for a few minutes, disappear, then return. Usually 15-30 minutes sessions, though some can last hours.
I've seen lot's of amazing nature phenomenon through my job, but this might have topped them. Directly overhead and in town. N Central ND
A couple shots from my phone from the plane. Unfortunately the sun is barely setting these days up here.
Damn. I was really hoping to catch it but it was cloudy when I went to bed and nothing as of an hour ago. Gonna have to eventually take a trip it seems to see it.
I had to spend a few months in Canada for work years ago. Started the day in south Florida, flew north to Toronto, then drove a few hours north. Asked them if I could see anything and couldn’t comprehend when they said I was no where near far enough north.
On the Kp index, how strong the magnetic disturbances are, i.e. how strong of an Aurora there will be, last night was a 6 on the 0-9 spectrum. Tonight is a 4, but Tuesday-Thursday nights are a 5 which is still considered high. If everything’s right you may be able to see them from Milwaukee.
Eric The Viking if you drink enough of these you should be able to see some northern lights regardless of cloud cover and light pollution
Iirc, we are reaching a peak period in these events over the next 2-3ish years and large aurora/geomagnetic events will start to reduce in frequency.
Any change these electromagnetic storms cut off our communication with satellites and lead to shortages of internet and mass hysteria? Asking for a friend.
This is a time lapse video I took of my action camera and converted it to a gif. It was kind of hard to tell when we looked with a naked eye but it was definitely green here in Portland.
I’ve seen pics of the Lights tonight from Moab, UT. Denver CO. And Tallahassee, FL. Still nothing from here, just west of Salt Lake City. Not giving up tho.
