Some of those are really good.
8. From the Song “Wait for It”
My grandfather was a fire and brimstone preacher …
My mother was a genius
My father commanded respect
When they died they left no instructions
Just a legacy to protect
Burr’s parents, meanwhile, died when he was very young. Aaron Burr, Sr. was the second president of the College of New Jersey, later Princeton University. (Still, he was its first significant one: His predecessor died the same year he took office.) He married Esther Edwards in 1752. Esther, 15 years his junior, kept a daily journal from the time she was 9 and began learning Latin with her new husband shortly after they were married. Burr Sr. died in 1757, and Esther died of smallpox in April 1758, leaving Burr, then 2, and his older sister Sarah, 4, orphans.
If you haven’t read the book, i highly recommend it. LMM discusses a lot of lyrical and thematic choices that only give greater appreciation for his genius. It’s been a few years since I read but I was blown away at the nuance in somethings. One that i remember was having Lafayette speak broken English at the beginning and it got better as the play went on to show his development in America. Lots of little stuff like that I never picked up on. Also why he chose the styles of hip hop for specific scenes ect.
That one makes it seem like Aaron Burr Sr married a nine year old if you skim it too quickly.
I’m surprised Phillipa Soo hasn’t parlayed into anything bigger. Seems so talented and so easy on the eyes
1) is a guitar cheating?
2) no way the audio is that good singing into a bunch of headphones
I always have the suspicion that these are recorded on studio grade equipment and then lip synced on zoom.
She is my favorite female in Hamilton. Always had a thing for her. She was the lead in Amelie right after Hamilton, but it just didn't hit that well, although she received very good reviews for her performance. And she's done more acting in plays and film since Amelie.
Man! I’ve heard that soundtrack so many times, but seeing the characters in action and the choreography and the lighting was crazy. Just gave me chills. Really can’t wait now.
Watched the trailer but not watching any song clips beforehand. It’s only a few days away, hold strong, it’ll be worth it
Odds Disney+ crashes from this?
I’d say the odds are pretty low. Hamilton is popular as far as musicals go, but I can’t imagine it’s nearly as sought after as a blockbuster or top tier tv show as far as streaming demand.
none of the guys in my closest friend group like musicals at all but all have plans fo watch this Friday night
For me that was the best part of the live show. It was absolutely stunning to see the rewind. I was in awe.
How do Disney+ releases work? Drop at midnight or just a random time that day?
See y'all boys at 3am, I suppose.
As a side note, I thought there was going to be more non-Disney content on Disney+, dumb as that sounds. Star Wars is OK. Not interested at all in the Marvel stuff, or the old Disney stuff. Pixar is cool, I suppose. But not sure I'll keep this membership, esp since YTTV is now even more.
But, to stay on with the thread, I sure am stoked to see the original cast! Still never even seen it live, but have the soundtrack memorized.
Would’ve been seeing it next week for the first time if not for Covid.
If we didn't have a 2 yr old, no way we'd keep it. But we basically keep one TV on "Old Elsa" or "New Elsa" aka Frozen 1 and 2 24 hours a day and my kid would revolt if we got rid of it.
Simpsons and NatGeo stuff is great.
Happy Hamilton day!
Got it downloaded and ready to rock on my Plex.
Staying in a rental with a theater room this week so tonight is going to be fun once the kids are asleep.
Bryant has really been digging this
G is going to mom's tonight so holding off until them.
Watching tonight and I can’t wait
Wait for it
So for me having listened to the recording countless times, seen it in Chicago and now watching this; here’s my most prominent thought.
Anthony fucking Ramos.
I didn’t realize exactly how much he led in some songs and man I just kept thinking that he was killing it.
Soo also man, wow. Being able to see her face as she’s singing her leads she was so good
I’ve been in and directed dozens of musicals. Somehow I’ve yet to see this. So excited to finally fire it up tomorrow.
toni morrison hating Hamilton has me so conflicted. i love the show but that’s a tough one to ignore
Seen it twice in SF. Watching the original is next-level
Only halfway so far but my biggest takeaway is how different this is from the soundtrack. I assume this is actually normal but the soundtrack is a musical recording and the play is acting.
The way they deliver the same songs on stage is just another level and I'm loving it.
I saw a semi original in NYC in July 2016. took my brother for his birthday and we got most of the original cast except Lin and Daveed. During the second song lighting hit close by and the speakers got messed up so they took a 30 minute break, and the guy who plays Washington came out and did a 5 minute impromptu song about how the bar was now serving doubles for the price of singles.
That sounds incredible. Pretty unique story to have vs a regular night.
As much as I love Lin, there are plenty of others I think it would be worse to miss out on, Daveed would suck. Getting Odom and Goldsberry would be the biggest impact IMO
the guy who played Hamilton took over in Chicago in that role. He was awesome.
The original guy in Chicago? Miguel Cervantes?
He was amazing when we went. I honestly didn’t feel like I missed out by seeing him instead of Lin, he was that good
Every time I see Goldsberry, I see Mimi from Rent. She’s great in both roles.
We saw the first set of replacements in NY and I didn’t miss Lin at all. I liked our George Washington better, but where we really missed out was Odom. Brandon Victor Dixon (our Burr) is a great performer, but Odom just steals the show.
Yup! I have the insert in the playbill somewhere in my apartment with the cast we got, but we were not disappointed at all.
When I went to Chicago it was when Wayne Brady was doing his run but then was on one of his days off. Would’ve loved to see how he was in the role.
The guy we had was the understudy for both Burr and Hamilton and the entire show I just kept thinking he seemed like he’d be a good Hamilton but just didn’t have the vocal chops for Burr. Was so blown away by the rest I was still overwhelmed and loved it
we may not have gotten odom. I think the first to leave were Lin, Odom, and Daveed. I think I saw it July 16 or 17 2016.
Cervantes > LMM
Also the Chicago guy who played George Washington was better than the soundtrack
Just finished. I saw in Chicago last summer, besides Eliza & Lafayette/Jefferson I liked Chicago cast better (but didn’t see NY live so idk). My shot remix slapped
Will watch multiple times
Wait have you not heard the Hamilton mixtape?
