Yeah and in 2020 with the advent of streaming platforms I feel like in most cases you have to go out of your way to listen to music you don’t like.

I agree with you. I'm just trying to reign you in from getting too far off center.

And I have no issues with you saying you don't like Baby, I don't like him that much either, just think the video he just put out is what you thought

And to be fair to my “hip hop headness” there’s definitely more hardcore guys that post itt. I find most underground stuff boring regardless of lyrical content. I’m more for the guys that play with the line of UG and Mainstream. I just post in here a lot because it’s my favorite thread

If Kendrick gives me one more solid album he’s probably my favorite music act of all time. The past 5-10 years of the genre hasn’t been as rapid fire good as the 90s early 2000s but the high end of this stuff can stand up in any era in my opinion. Gibbs, Kendrick, RTJ, Denzel Curry and a few others have all had ridiculous runs of quality.

I like to think I'm somewhere in the middle of an old head and a mumble rap connoisseur. I like some of them and can enjoy it but then there's other times when I'm just really confused. Take for instance the album Drip Harder from Gunna and Lil Baby. All I saw on social media was positive stuff about it so I thought why not and listened to it and it was one of the most repetitive albums I've ever heard in my life. It was awful to me

I guess I appreciate originality. For example with newer guys. Roddy Ricch, Lil Uzi Vert, DaBaby, Lil Yachty, Trippie Redd etc. I can appreciate those guys because they have their own lane. I may not enjoy all of the music but I respect their artistry. It's the assembly line of cookie cutter young thug knockoffs that tilt me

    Solid response from Cole.

I don’t pretend to understand the dynamic between black men and women but reading the lyrics of snow on the bluff it seems like Cole took a humble and sensitive approach to the idea of black female influencers calling out black men for not being vocal enough during these days. He basically says that he isn’t actually the hero he is built up to be and that approach may cause him or others to resist learning

yea i’m not intimately familiar that dynamic, and should probably fuck off, but yikes at that line “something about the queen tone bothering me”

also the “maybe you should teach me to be woke instead of calling me out” sentiment is a pretty lame thing for a 36 year old college educated man to demand from a female. you’re going to catch heat for that :idk:

at the same time tho he’s been pretty visible at protests iirc.

I haven't listened to the song yet, but based on what was said earlier ITT, I didn't take it as tone policing but more don't put the burden on people because they may not know.

I’m not sure but she’s always been very vocal and radical and also well respected.

she sent out this tweet and it came with a ton of backlash directed twords Kendrick and Cole and this is what Cole was addressing.

I’m sorry but that stance is fucking wild. Especially considering in the last 5 years a black man standing up for his race led to him losing just about everything

What would Kendrick it JCole tweeting anything have done?

one of the lyrics is literally “it’s something about the queen-tone that’s bothering me”

noname is doing amazing work in this arena. that’s a bullshit line and he’s rightfully being called out on it. all she seemed to want is some of the leaders in the industry to be more vocal. that’s a fair ask in 2020. don’t tell her to get off her high horse and teach you :idk:

There’s definitely policing on both sides of this argument. I’m sure noname would have no issues getting Kendrick and Coles contact info tho. Snow on the bluff from my point of view was a call for unity and in a way I feel like Cole wasn’t just speaking for himself but for others who might have a similar mindset

she’s charging him to do more

he responded by telling her to pipe down with her queen tone and teach him, a grown up with a college degree who has tried to cultivate a imagine of being “conscious” and has the world at his fingertips. that’s gonna catch heat in 2020. it’s fine.

No offense but I think you and others are getting far to much mileage out of the queen tone line. Read all the lyrics if you get the chance. I’m not saying that cole didn’t lack a bit of tact here, ijs there’s points for both sides

Why is it Kendrick Lamar or Jermaine Cole's duty to put out a tweet if they don't feel they are in the right place to offer it? She wants famous black men(more so rappers) to support her movement, which is great, but she shouldn't attack them if they don't.

I think it’s a fair tweet wrt the current climate but Cole and Kendrick have also made obvious contributions over the years and the tweet itself in a way does some handicapping to anything they do going forward. My final feelings is that she should have reached out.

She didn’t have to because we all know who she’s speaking on. And again, just because they haven’t tweeted doesn’t mean they’re missing. You yourself said Cole has been out protesting....that’s more powerful than 240 characters.

TPAB was one of the most intensely emotional experiences I’ve ever had in the medium but there was more to it than just the uplift black America message that rang throughout. There’s also the story of a man who feels intense pressure to be that guy that so many need while also being a bit of an introvert and having his own everyday issues.

you and i shouldn’t criticize them. i can understand criticism from someone like noname though.

she deleted the tweet so maybe she felt some sort of way about it. cole’s response is booboo though. maybe it’s good he’s been on the sidelines if he can’t handle being called out by a strong female in the movement

This is an absolutely eviscerating but it’s also fucking annoying how this cocksucker exaggerates and misrepresents Coles bars. He spends damn near three minutes shitting down Coles throat about the line where Cole speaks on nonames education through upbringing (Cole was raised by a white woman) and narrows it down specifically to education in general.
