Anyone got any strong opinions on particular brands of residential backup generators? blind dog got that Consumer Reports for Ryan Mallett? [R.I.P.]
I just have a an interlock and a 6500 watt portable generator. I’ve heard Kohler is better than generac tho
We crushed their advancement. We literally decimated them. They are no more and I have been promoted to a 3-star general in the war against all foes. Alabama Power (aka a Southern Company) is who has failed to deliver me power for a while tonight. Admittedly, it didn't last long but Charter Spectrum was down for about 4 hours which is unacceptable. I had to talk to my wife about our like respective dreams plus like fears and nightmares and shit.
Varies pretty much because you need tanks for fuel, fuel and the the gen and tie in. That said got lucky because our neighbors install them, but really can vary based on location and cost of fuel.
ordered some expensive exterior shutters for our back patio that we built a brick half-wall to enclose the patio. company said 8-12 weeks, it's now been 15 weeks. i called the company again this week and they said the place they have the shutters made used the wrong aluminum and it'd be another 8-10 weeks. fuck me
that’s what makes me the most upset. Unfortunately there’s no other companies around here remotely the same price as them
My parents have had to have random stuff fixed on an aging house like a roof leak and new windows. It's been nearly impossible to just get people to call then back for quotes
We’re going back and forth on buying land and building a house vs building a house with builder in neighborhood. If we buy land we need to get a construction loan vs traditional with the builder. Anyone got advice/pros/cons of construction loan? Might be able to save a good bit of money doing our own build but not sure if it will outweigh a traditional loan with incentives from builder.
With rates projected to drop it might be a good time to finance the construction on a variable rate line and fix the permanent piece later.
I dealt with some unique situations but construction loans are huge pain in the ass to get, a million hurdles to jump through. That's really my only 2 cents.
If you can foot the bill yourself then it's definitely going to save you money. Then give me a shout when it's all said and done and I'll get you some permanent financing with an interest rate so low you'll think you got away with something.
But how long until you leave the mortgage world and just go full time with Big Justice and The Rizzler on tour?
I mean if the Rizzler reached out to bring me under his wing and I wouldn't have to interact with those Double Chonk Chocolate Cuuuhkies then I guess I couldn't say no.
OK, which of you degenerates is good at refrigerators OR can show me where to go for diagnostics? It's a three-day wait for the appliance guy I trust. I have a GE PFS22SBSBSS that's ancient, but has had a new thermistor and control board in the last two years. -Got warm today; I noticed tons of ice in freezer; scraped that out. Vacuumed dirty coils and washed them down. -Unplugged for 15 or so minutes to reset -Checked for fans working inside and the exterior fan for the coils, everything seems OK. -Readings are still c. 32 for freezer, 50 for fridge Any thoughts? Also, Bham people, any recs for techs? Steel City busy until Friday at 4...
Still bitter about the "win" on Saturday? Also, fuck me, I unplugged it for 15min to reset the control board, and damned if none of the fans are working now. Probably just a piece of shit control board...or other ideas?
Why would I be bitter? We are 1-0 You aren't I honestly didn't even look at your fan of before replying Youtube is literally the shit for this stuff, there is very likely someone on there who has trouble shot your exact model Don't be wierd
We are due for an upgrade. That's not something I want to mess with myself for a couple reasons 1 - long standing water, gross 2 - I don't want to mess it up and my basement ends up flooding I know the part isn't expensive, but am curious what installation usually runs. We probably need the old pipe replaced, too.
Sounds like the fridge may be dying. Try and spin the fans with your finger if you can get to them. Sometimes the initial power draw needed to fire up the compressor is too much and it won’t start up. At least this is what I recall. Also let it sit for a bit as some units will have a built in delay from when it’s plugged in until it fires up the compressors to avoid turning on and off the compressor. Sometimes it will fire up after a few minutes. If you have a box fan or portable one, try putting a fan on the coils to try and get the coils cooled down as that sometimes will help with cooling. If the freezer is cold; it may be blockage between the freezer and fridge so the air can’t circulate.
If it's just the pump itself, and you're doing another with similar dimension pipe, it's easy. I've done one WHILE THE BASEMENT WAS FLOODING. Not fun, but it worked.
I may have been enjoying some whiskey, but obviously I checked YT before asking here. Oddly you can't even find diagnostics easily.
I'm in the process of paying out $1k for an a/c compressor in a car and have had about $2k of unexpected expenses lately. Don't really want to spend $1300 on a new fridge if I can help it.
It’s fun how this shit always comes in bunches. I couldn’t find it on nextdoor but I recall there being a local dude everyone recommends. I’ve used Mr Appliance before and had good experiences (that might be who nextdoor likes)
Yeah, and the Steel City guy is on vacation this week. I called four places. Thankfully he gave me good references. One is supposed to come today, but...here I am.
Lumber Liquidators is closing up shop. Everything on sale starting Friday. Not sure how prevalent they are outside of the SE.
If you really like your house, location, current mortgage rate, have space on your lot to add on to your home would you do a 4+ month renovation or sell your home and buy another home that is bigger?
Have you done rough plumbing before and is the pit easily accesible? in theory it’s like a 3, tops. But as with all things plumbing you might have to do multiple runs to the store. I have a pit that has a wood box around it, which sucks cuz I don’t feel like breaking the box down to get in there, but prob will have to at some point.
